Expansion Pack Question

Hello everybody! I bought The Sims 3 not too long ago and I am enjoying it! Now that I have enough money for an EP, I want to buy one. Now, I'm not too sure if this is the right section to post it in.

Now, my question is:

I downloaded The Sims 3 off of Steam. If I get an EP from the store (like at a Best Buy, or Wal-Mart) that is on disc form will it still work?

I seem to remember people having issues with that before.

I wanted to mention that if you have access, you could order a Sims game from origin right now as most of them are either $10 or 50% off.  You would still receive the physical copy if you wanted.   

I know a lot of people have issues with the Steam version of Sims 3 and end up just redownloading it through Origin because sometimes it's hard to add downloads to the game via steam.

But would that mean that I have to re-buy Sims 3 again?

No - if you register the Sims 3 with thesims3.com, you can download from origin whenever you need to.   Anytime you register a game it becomes available via download through origin.
