I tend to use the names of personal characters that I've created.

The most common name I use for my CAS male Sims are shared with my favourite personal character; Isaiah. And, for some reason, the first male child is always called Alistair.

Sometimes I use the random name thing when in CAS.
Other times, I intentionally name the Sims after people who became famous doing what the sim aspires to do [in my current file for example, I have two sims named after famous/fictional archaeologists].

My first Immortal Dynasty I used characters from Heinlein books, with a different book for each generation. Founder was Lazarus Long; first generation had Valentine, Ben, Dorcas and Gillian. It failed at that point but I may go back and do it again.

For my second one, I used a self-Sim and used my own nicknames for the heirs. I twisted from the parents' names for spares and helpers. Bastian had a clone Sebastian who had a clone Sebastopol who had a clone Pol. Kyle (female) had a clone Kylie. Delilah had a daughter Delia.

For my Baby Boomer, I'm tired of names, so it's by birth and then by order in the birth: A1, B1, C1, C2, D1, D2 etc

When naming kids in multi-generational games, I try to think of what the parents would like. Most of the time I have "normal" Sims who give their kids sensible traditional names, but the occasional Insane or quirky parent tends to liven things up a bit.  :)

I name mine after famous Metal legends. The list is long, but the musicians I most often name my Sims after (only one name, never both) are Cliff Burton, Shavo Odadjian, and Lemmy Kilmister. If I posted a list of every Metal musician I name them after, it would be giant.

I usually use the name that has some meaning in it, I really love about the meaning behind the names.
Otherwise than that I usually use the name that crossed in my mind or make it random.

Oh, and I tend to use my real name, because I love to play my simself lol.
My favorite last name is "Eldridge" (This is my real family last name though) and "Roosevelt".

I usually use "Abel", "George", "Harry", "Raven" for male sims and "Abelia", "Emilia", "Roxanne", "Ruby" for female sims.

I use Emilia a lot too. I actually had a Sim called Emilia (or Emmy) who had a family who's family is on generation 5 at the moment. It's not a challenge or anything... just for fun!

I usually give my sims danish names that I considered for my daughter: Rose (rose), Lilje (lilly), Silke (silk), Aya, Björk, Gry (dawn), Kamille (camille), Freydis, Freja.

I also usually use scandinavian names for boys: Bjørn (bear), Birk (birch), Storm (storm), Aske (ash), Falk (falcon)

I never use the same names more than once. Unless I'm going for a specific theme, I tend to just give them random names that pop into my head. It gets tricky to avoid repetitions after a while, so at the moment I'm using T.V shows as inspiration.

I am currently using virtues for my legacy. First was Felicity, then Grace, then Venus (Not exactly a virtue), then Princely, and I'm planning for a Quintessential. I really like Quintessential now, all those nicknames! Quin, Quincy, Quint, Esse, Tess! It is a whole goldmine!
I also found a great site called namenerds.com It has a ton of resources, It is more than a list!

I'm using Chili's - Habenero, Jalapino, De Arbol, etc. Unless it's a Dynasty, I usually just pick normal names like Samantha, David, Abby, Erin, Phil, George, etc.

I used to almost always have my starting sims be tv or book characters, but I have a lot less time to watch tv etc now. Instead I try to match meanings or pick characters from mythology or history. Right now I'm playing a household with two princesses - Mary Tudor (Henry VIII's sister, not daughter, she's a lot more obscure but interesting) and Te Puea Herangi who was a conscientious objecter in WWI and also a huge contributor to keeping Māori performing arts going when government policy was for assimilation. The fairy I had whose save file got corrupted was Hikoi Tawhiti - Hikoi means "walk", sometimes a very long walk, and Tawhiti means overseas; shockingly, her LTW was one of the World Adventures ones. (Max visa in all locations.)

(completely off-topic) I know loads about Mary Tudor (the sister)! She married a French King (Louis the Eleventh maybe?) who died not long after her coronation and then she married a English Duke and had four children and she was Lady Jane Grey's grandmother. And trust me, I didn't get any of that of Wikipedia.

(completely on-topic) I love choosing book or film characters too (my Life States Dynasty heirs are all named after Hunger Games characters). I quite like fairytale characters too, such as Cinderella, Snow (White), etc.

I'm not really good at naming my characters. I usually use the dice roll until something comes up that I like.
Sometimes I use names from books I've read or video games I've played.

Morrigan, Madeline, Katrina, Imalia for example.
"Courage looks you straight in the eye. She is not impressed with power trippers, and she knows first aid. Courage is not afraid to weep, and she is not afraid to pray, even when she is not sure who she is praying to. When she walks it is clear she has made the journey from loneliness to solitude. The people who told me she was stern were not lying. they just forgot to mention she was kind."

She very nearly got disowned for marrying Charles Brandon, too. He was only a Duke by virtue of being Henry's friend, not born one, and Mary was Henry's favourite sister - so he thought Charles was VERY beneath her. He eventually forgave them and let them come back (they married in France). She was likely friends with the first Katharine (of Aragon), the mother of her niece Mary, and would have been in France around the same time as Anne and Mary Boleyn were serving there. (Naming children after the monarchy was extremely common, hence why there were so few names within the upper classes back then. Henry VIII's older brother, Katharine's first husband, was an exception - he was named Arthur because of a family legend that the Tudors were descended from King Arthur. Henry's fifth and sixth wives were probably both named after Katharine of Aragon.)

I had a couple of characters from Once Upon a Time for a while, like Ruby the werewolf. XD
