I've been on that website, it's pretty useful :)

At the moment I've found a website with baby names by theme, and then split into genders with each theme. It's pretty useful and I can see all the themes I would like to use before googling even more. Right now I'm on flowers.
From the moment I fell down that rabbit hole I've been told what I must do and who I must be. I've been shrunk, stretched, scratched and stuffed into a teapot. I've been accused of being Alice, and of not being Alice, but this is my dream. I'll decide where it goes from here.

In my Town Jump, I'm using one letter and naming all of my children with that same letter (Z, Q, V, etc.) Sometimes, I have a specific theme for a couple of Sims. (I have a werewolf pack, so I figured I'd give them older names, like Albert.)

Sometimes I'll use a specific origin for some of the names. Thor and Fenris are both Norse, for example. (well, Fenris is close. I'm not sure of the exact translation)

Whenever it's a certain sim with a certain personality that I have to name, I kind of sit there staring at the computer screen for a while until I shout "Eureka!" and have come up with the name. It's a confusing process, but it works.

Whatever I want.

I usually aim for the extremely uncommon, rare or straight up bizarre names that most people would be tormented about in real-life. Most of the time it is completely random, like an item in my environment currently. (Table, chair, coffee mug etc.)
Sometimes I have a name lined up for a specific personality trait, generational colour,or what I intend to have this sim do with their life, or whatever theme I might have in mind.

Other times I get bored and just use a random name generator..

In my first Immortal Dynasty I had a name them, the sims were all given Welsh names: Eleri, Rhiannon, Anwen, Megan, Gwenlyn, Adlais, Seren and Taryn.

Most of the time though I just choose names I like. I always struggle to choose names for boys though, I'm much more imaginative with girls names. The current sims I'm playing mostly are Sebastian (from my second immortal dynasty), Iris (DecaDynasty), Anna and Jeremiah (Baby Boomers), and Saskia, Lucy and Tommy in various other games.

I made two lists. One was of masculine first names and one was of feminine ones. Every time a baby is born or I create a Sim, I use an application on my phone to pick a random number. Whatever comes up, I use.

I NEVER use the names of people I know because I'm always worried they'll find out and be offended.
I'm not pedantic! I just believe in precision of language.

Well I named my last sim about myself, just changed the spelling a little bit.

I like to use the name Eleanor or Georgina. Those two are really beautiful :)

When it cames to male.. I don't know James is lovely. My sim's husband is James :)

I use a lot of names from literature. One of my families are all named after characters in Macbeth, another one names from To Kill a Mockingbird. It just starts with one name and once I start I keep going with it.

I love choosing names that are a bit unusual or something you don't often hear of in real life. For example, I using bird names, such as Crow, Raven and even a Toucan!

I tend to just use whichever name pops into my head at the time whether it's common, strange or completely made up... But with my pseudo-legacy I'm trying not to use the same letter of the alphabet twice, unless a sim with that letter marries into the family... So far I've had Marjorie (Founder), Rebecca and Justine (Gen 2), Edwina, Destiny, Faith, Lori and Sharlie (Gen 3), Xenia, Arabella and Georgina (Gen 4)....

At times I pick names from the top of my head, but I love to read and lots of times  I have picked a theme, of a sorts, from the series that I like and feel fit the town. Sunset Valley I pick names from N. Singh's Psy/Changlings, as it is based in Calif, San. F. I think.
C. Feehan's Carpathian's is best for Riverview, vampire series that is based in the Carpathian Mountains.

Moonlight Falls, it has such wilderness aspect that I decided to go with a Native American theme for a couple of games.   I picked a N.A. name for a last name and then NA names that are nature oriented. I use the NA name for wolf, fox, deer, eagle, moon, and such. One family was named Tsalagi, (Cherokee) and the sims were Amitola (female means rainbow) and Dyami (male means eagle).  The son was named Mako (earth).
I have also used the names of characters from another book series for Moonlight Falls, they are Breeds, humans with animal DNA, so have used the names of the characters.  In one family the wife is Dawn (she has Cougar DNA) and Seth, her mate (all human) and son is Taber (lion DNA).

I usually pick some type of naming theme. Sometimes it relates to the challenge, like in my DecaDynasty, I'm naming them different words for "ten," but most of the time it's things like Shakespearean names or characters from tv shows.

Unless there is a theme to the household, I usually go with names similar to mine or my friends'. For males, I usually just pick a random name I like.

It depends on what I'm making them for.  I usually have an idea, like I might make a sim that's goth.  Since The Sims 3 Pets for PS3 doesn't have vampires the best I can do is make a goth sim.  I try to make a name associated with what I think would be goth.  Sometimes I make sims that are based off of movie characters, video game characters, etc.  Sometimes I make sims that look wealthy so I give them names that sound important. :P

My Legacy is colors :  Skye, Cerise, Fern , Hunter, Maize and Chrome (yes it is a color!).

Uglacy has the last name of Less so they are Penny Less, Hope Less, Fear Less, Ruth Less, & Joy Less. It's fun matching traits with their names.

For some reason, my homeless legacy all start with Al. Alise, Alec, Allie and Alden

For non legacy sims I go whatever i think of at the moment. CAS sims are 50/50. Sometimes I get creative.and other times, I just hit the random name button.
