What names do you usually pick for your sims?

Just gathering what people usually name their Sims.

I usually name my Sims after male sportspeople, but recently I've tried to become more creative with my naming. My favourites are James and David for men and Sarah and Lily for women

For me, it depends on the theme. My Immortal Dynasty was virtue-based; my Life States Dynasty is deity-based. I've done gemstones, colors, flowers, birds, mammals, and even on my WoW characters.

I tend to pick names like Isabella for girls and Henry for boys. Also Rosa, Olivia, Danny, Sam and Sarah come up a lot. I only use themes for stories.

I always try to give my sims names to reflect how I imagine their personalities. Generally I pick names I've never (or seldom) used before - I have always done the same in all the many MMORPGs I've played over the last 10+ years.

Depends on what I'm gonna do with them.  Often I'll try to give them a name that is a pun based on what I plan.  For instance, I might name a sim I intend to be a painter after a famous painter, or after a famous work.  Though I am planing to do a dynasty at some point themed on each sim being named a different zodiac.  Or I'll try to name them off a video game character I am basing them off of.

Though for other none purposed named, I often use Micheal, Shane, Dante, and Evan.  Since I usually aim for male kids, I jus take whatever name the wife comes with. Though I do usually girls names from video games.

What I do for fun files is I close my eyes and pick two random letters and try to incorporate them into a name, I once ended up with a Miss Qonsuela Mackelton.

Or In my dynastys I have each generation a theme. Like my Townie deca dynasty generation 1 was months, generation 2 coluors and I am just getting on to generation 3 which I think will be named after spirits and things.

It's either pulling names out of a hat (the Graves were largely named on a stream of consciousness basis), or going with an alliterative slant (the Rusts, and my current immortal dynasty too).

I quite like the latter. It's a cohesive theme that requires little thought on my part.

I pull names from a variety of sources, I have taken various people of Royal encestry, I have taken TV show character names, or I pull names out of thin air.

I usually randomize the last names, unless it comes up as something that really annoys me.  For first names I tend to go with characters from books or TV shows.  Lately I have been using the names of gods and goddesses because my students have been working on a mythology unit.

family, friends, characters from tv/movies/books, random selection from a baby names book....

I tend to just pick a random letter in my head then find a good simple name starting with that. Unless I have a certain theme going on, most of the names are random. That or I use names of my family or modified versions of their names. I love really pretty names though, mostly flowers and animals. So I use those as well. Overall, if it sounds good and it fits the sim, I use it.

My Immortal Dynasty was color themed:  Nectarine, Indigo, Periwinkle, Chartreuse, Banana, Cinnamon, Scarlet, Bubblegum, and Forest.

My Townie DecaDynasty is candy themed:  Taffy, Charms, Godiva, Dove, Heath, Skor, Kit, Kat, and others I don't recall at the moment.

My Baby Boomer IV Challenge is number themed:  First, Second, Third, etc.

I'm very bad at thinking of names. I don't think I have a imagination lol. I usually have a magazine nearby.

I have a website I use for randomly generating names:

I just go there, create 4 names randomly and then choose the one I like best.  You can also restrict the names to certain ethnicities if you like.  It provides a sort of 'pseudo-randomness' to my Sims.

(Edit: Just realised it probably looks slightly suspicious that my first post is a link to an external website.  Just to clarify there is nothing 'for sale' on the website, other than one standard banner ad, and I am not involved in it in any way.  I just think it's a cool website for creating random names)
