No cheats?
« on: February 06, 2013, 08:06:37 PM »
Now I'm not quite sure if this has been asked yet or if it's something wrong with my computer or disk, but I would like to know. You see, my brother loves the cheats on the sims and automatically makes his sim a proper billionare on the spot. The trouble is, a few other cheats don't seem to work, mainly the testingcheatsenabled and buydebug options. I got a new copy of the sims for Christmas after my old one was packed away and never found again, and I was able to work both of those just fine on those. But I also had the Pets expansion pack disk with it(which, might I add, also got lost). So I'm wondering if it's just that I have the main game only that it's not working or if it's something with the disk I got. Thank you for your time.

Do you follow testingcheatsenabled by a space and then the word true? I sometimes forget that and wonder why it doesn't work.
I think the buydebug cheat became available with world Adventures (but I could be wrong). The Guide has information on the different cheats here.

Buydebug needs testingcheatsenabled true to work.

I type in the true and I make sure to put it in before typing in buydebug. Both still don't work.

you press ctrl/shift/c then type:

testingcheatsenabled true (and press enter)

then

you press ctrl/shift/c then type:

buydebug true (and press enter)

Is this what you have been doing?

Actually it's buydebug on for my game.   Has the console ever told you that cheat doesnt exist?

How do you know that testingcheats and buydebug aren't working?  I'm not doubting that you've played the game.  I'm just asking.  Have you considered a reinstall?  Do you only own the two EPs? (just base & pets) or are there more?

Testingcheatsenabled just opens up the testing cheats - you actually have to try things to see if it's on as nothing will actually change in the game.  You should be able to now Edit in CAS when shift Clicking on a Sim.   Make needs static when shift clicking the mailbox.  Being able to change relationship of random Sims with your Sim.

Buydebug can only be seen in buy mode under the Sort by Function as the ?  that's above the UI now.  It wasn't always there but it is now.

I just tested it on my game and after opening the testingcheats panel, all I typed was "buydebug" and it turned it on.

I've tried all you have said. I've used the cheats before so I know what to expect. But now that I have a new computer and game, it just never happened. I typed it in, but when I tried to use it and find the cheats that go with it, it doesnt show up. It acts like I never typed it in. Oh, and I apologize for before. I shouldn't have been so rude, especially online. Forgive me.

So do you mean you don't even get the panel at the top when you hit shift, ctrl and C? If you get the panel at least, have you tried typing help to bring up a list?

Opening up the cheats panel does pause the game, unless you actually pause it yourself first.

Hi ingrid.

I'm sorry if I'm repeating what has already been said.  Just trying to figure out what's going on with your game.

While the game is running, hold down Ctrl and Shift.  While holding them down, press the C key.  Your game will pause and the screen will slightly darken.  At this point, you just start typing and it should show up in the upper left corner.  You type in "testingcheatsenabled true" exactly like that, but without the quote marks.  Then you press Enter.  Now the game will start running normally again and it won't be dark.  You can use the testing cheats at this point, such as Shift-clicking the mail box to get special options, or Shift-clicking your Sim to take him back to CAS.  You can also turn on Buydebug once you've turned on testing cheats.  To do this, you repeat the Shift-Ctrl-C sequence.  The screen will darken and your game will pause.  Type "buydebug" exactly like that without the quotes.  Press Enter.  Now Buydebug is operating and when you go to Buy Mode, you will see a question mark when you sort by function.  The question mark will be right above the button for Comfort furniture.

Again, I'm sorry if this is all just repeat information.  I wanted to spell out the entire process from start to finish to make sure that you're doing the right things.  After this, I would say to check if your game does the same thing in a different game file.  That's probably the next step after you're 100% certain you're doing all the steps correctly.
