How does a sim go mining?

I have not done that action myself yet, but I'm guessing all you do is click on a Miner that an Inventor built and you should have the option. And you would obviously also have to have the Miner out in the open (as opposed to being in your family inventory).

You first click "place" and then you can put it anywhere on the lot as long as it's an open space.  Then I think the option is "dig" and your sim will go over to it and start drilling into the ground.  It will take them several sim hours to dig, and along the way they will find stuff that goes into your inventory, eventually you will get the message that they've gone as far as they can.  Then you pick up the miner, and if you want you can jump in the hole.  Sometimes you'll get a glowing hole, and your sim will go on an adventure down there.

The only interaction my sim gets with the hole is to fill it back in.

If you have more than only one hole, you get to name them. It's a way to avoid confusing at hole-traveling.

You can get different interactions with different holes.  The glowing ones have adventures for you.

Oh no, inventing. Maybe I'll grab one at the store-I did get a heart-shape diamond, after all.
