Busy Sims with baby
« on: February 05, 2013, 06:12:11 PM »
Hi!

I am in terrible mess with my Sim. I disabled aging, I have a baby, I have a romantic interest that moved in with me (he has a partner before but i stole him),since I disabled aging the baby wont grow and I learned that I need to enable aging so the baby will grow and If i want I can have Ambrosia for immortality but with the baby I am always out of energy. The sim who moved in with me already quit work but is not really alot of help.

Question:

1. with sims who moved in and is in romantic interest how would I get him to marry me?
2. how would I get the necessary skills for ambrosia when there is a baby who always needs me?

1) You need to get the relationship bar fairly high, and their social interactions should say that such-and-such finds who-and-what to be irresistible. Then you should have the option to propose marriage under the romantic interaction.

2) For Ambrosia, you need to have 10 in Cooking, and either 6 or 7 in Fishing to catch the Deathfish. If you have at least 1 skill point in each, and the more expensive TVs, you can have your sim stand there and watch Fishing Fracas or Cooking Channel while holding the baby. Alternatively, you can have one sim sleep while the baby does, and alternate sleep schedules until the baby ages up to more independence.

However, if you're always out of energy on both sims, I'd be curious what's going on specifically.

That's the problem. Every time the baby cries, both of them wake up and and my Sim's partner who has a trait of loves outdoors, always goes out to  leave my Sim with the baby.

You should be able to control all of the Sims in your household, and get the partner to help with the baby.

You can also age up the baby to a toddler using a birthday cake or a cheat.  Birthday cakes are available in buy mode (entertainment --> parties) or at the grocery store.  Buy a cake, click on it, and you'll get a list of the Sims on your lot who are eligible to age up.  Select the baby.

For the cheat, open up the cheat console (control-shift-c), type "testingcheatsenabled true" without the quotes.  Then you can shift-click on the baby and select Trigger Age Transition.

The toddler will need to be potty trained and taught to walk and talk.  There are also other books, toys, and skill items you might want for the toddler.

While it certainly isn't the most romantic thing to do, you could have your Sim and the Romantic Interest sleep in different rooms. That way, only one of them should be woken up by the baby.

If you're very new at this you might like to try it with their needs made static. There is information on how to do this on the guide, here

Yes,  I'm so new at this, I have another question. Do I have to go online to have the cheats enabled?

No, just read the page on the guide, and that will tell you all that you need to know :) Feel free to read any of the other pages on the guide, or forum, that peak your interest. The game also has a tutorial when you first turn it on, and the lessons are all available from the Options Menu (the ... button on the bottom left).

Thank you all. I'll try the cheats (I have to sleep though because I had little sleep because of Sim)  :)

you should be also able to adjust aging individually per life stage if you enable it.

Go to optoions and you can change each age stage individually. I think the minimum for babies is 2 days. This can be a hard life stage for beginners. If your parent sims don't seem to get enough rest, buy a higher quality bed as soon as you can afford one. It really helps.

The baby shouldn't be too much of a problem once you get into a routine. Feed, change and play with it before your sims go to bed so it won't become lonely and cry in the middle of the night. Make a separate nursery so even when it does cry at night, it doesn't wake your sims up, and you can instead pick which sim you want to wake up to care for it. Buy your sims a better bed - it'll mean they need less sleep. Even with a low quality bed they shouldn't need more than 8 hours or so a day.

The skills needed to make ambrosia are level 10 cooking, fishing and gardening. If you've got at least one skill point in these, they can be further learned by watching TV. "Cooking cable", "Fishing fracas" and "Got garden?" are the respective stations. You'll need a decent TV to have access to those channels, though. You can also learn these skills by reading books, either at the library or by purchasing them from the bookstore. Cooking and gardening can also be done on your home lot, as can fishing if you edit your house to put a pond in. So you can still learn these skills even with a baby in the house. If you want to age up the baby, just buy a birthday cake from "outdoor activities", click on it, and choose the baby to blow out the candles. It will then age into a toddler.

Actually, you can catch death fish at level 5 fishing, it is easier with angelfish as a bite, and it can only be done at the cemetary 00-05 h but you don't need to skill up fishing to the max. With gardening you need level 7 to plant special seeds or you can place some of the community gardens from our swapshop into the town and simply harvest life fruits with 0 level of gardening skill. You do need to max cooking so you can learn Ambrosia recipe that is available in bookstore. Here is the guide for getting ambrosia.

Check around Lifetime Rewards as there are plenty to make the mood managing much easier as well as young again and freeze age potions that are even more effective then ambrosia.

I would recommend birthday cake for your baby, and hire a babysitter so your Sims can rest and do other things too. For romantic relationship to reach the marriage - you need to make sure your other Sim is not in relationship and go trough romantic interactions, from going steady, propose marriage to private wedding or wedding at the party. Here you can find information about that part.

Good luck and try managing this without cheats first, at the begining multitasking can be struggling but it is also rewarding to manage the game without cheats. You can also just type the cheat "testingcheatsenabled true" and fix the mood bar for each need with simple mouse click and drag so you still get the dynamic of the needs in game while more control of them with a fast and easy fix if things get hectic.
