The Scramble (Rubik's Cube House) - 3br 3ba
« on: February 02, 2013, 02:34:29 AM »
Whew, this one was a fun one to do. It was frustrating at times, but I think this turned out great.

THE RUBIK'S CUBE HOUSE: THE SCRAMBLE.

Lot Size: 30x40
Bedrooms: 3 (4 sleeping spaces)
Bathrooms: 3
Furnished: $206,517
Unfurnished: $107,785
Requires: Generations (spiral staircase is a MUST)
Contains: Late Night, Showtime, Ambitions, Pets, Seasons Earth Day (free)

This modern house is designed after a Rubiks Cube. Each room was carefully crafted and modified out of the original 4x4 27 room floor plan. Every room has the same 'face' accents (ie: blue face on cube = blue accents) to spice up the otherwise black house. This house is perfect for genius/artistic/virtuosic sims as they include a nice study, an art room, and a piano room. There's a lovely backyard with a fancy pool, hot tub, and terrace (with a garden).

--------------------

FEATURES:
- Bright and fun accents
- cozy kitchen and dining room, with a butler pantry
- large open windows to look outside
- small compact-minded design
- private entryway with one parking space
- as mentioned: includes piano conservatory (and a cello), designing table, art table.
- also includes the following skill items: bar, treadmill, bookcases

DOES NOT INCLUDE:
- laundry - could convert either piano or art studio to include it
- basement
-celebrity gate
- other skillbuilding items other than ones mentioned

---------------------------------------

BUILDER'S NOTE:

So this house was super uber fun to make. I do know how to solve a rubiks cube, if you don't know, you can find help with a solution here. When I got inspiration to make my cube, I decided to mess it up and whatever came out - that would be the layout of my house. So if you're wondering why certain colours are the way they are, well, it just ended up that way, haha. More of a challenge then.

The second floor that's 'turning' is actually 9x9, unlike the 12x12 of the other two floors. I don't know why EA had diagonal walls go about 1.5x a normal wall, so actually the second floor is smaller in terms of sq feet. Surprising because its hardly noticeable with the house, at least I think so.

Getting the actual dimensions out of the way was difficult. I first wanted to give myself a lot of room so I went with 21x21, and that's when I realized my cube became more of a rectangle. I found the closest thing to an actual cube meant 12x12, which is just merely 4x4 rooms. That was definitely a challenge for me.

I also uploaded the unfurnished shell of this house - it still has all 27 4x4 rooms in it. That way, you could take the premade layout and make something new with it. A bar or club would be pretty cool, I think. It doesn't have the unique room shapes I created, just straight 4x4. There is no landscaping or backyard-ing done to it - only a raised ground that can be played with.

This forum has several talented builders, but even so, I should mention this. I got inspiration and lots of designing tips from watching the Curtis Paradis Show. He builds these fantastic houses that helps give me so many ideas on how to decorate. He's the one that got the idea of handmade terraces in my head. Really, he's amazing. I didn't get good at interior design until watching his videos. Check him out, even if you're an accomplished builder!

Anyways, following up with screenshots.

Relatively simple stuff.

FLOOR ONE

Describing this is easy enough to do. The green on the right is the main entrance - spiral stairs in the middle take you to the second floor. directly north is your dining room - blue and orange. Over to the left of that is the kitchen. There's the butler pantry in the middle. Going back into the main entrance and down to the green and yellow room - just a hallway/passing area to pick up a book or something. The white room to the left doesn't have much; a tv and a couch to entertain your sims if they're waiting for something. The red and blue room is the bathroom - a half bath. up north of that is the entertainment room - containing a large sectional and a bar. A nice area to open presents at a gift giving party.

FLOOR TWO

The 'turning' floor, as I like to call it. Assuming you went up the staircase, down that hall is another white room - two chairs to watch a ranked chess match your genius sim will probably be playing. In that yellow and red room is a study - pretty spacious with some couches to view the outside. That blue, white and green room is the master bedroom - already contains a crib for your nooboo needs. Backtracking a little - the green room on the left side of the chess area is the conservatory - a grand piano and a cello are in there. This can be turned into a garden should your sim wish. South west of that is the master bathroom - blue and orange. No there's no reason for that square column to be in the hallway, you take it out if you wish. And up to the next floor.

FLOOR THREE

It's mostly comprised of the lounge, the white blue and green room. There's a shuffle board, a stereo, a treadmill, and a tv. The bottom right corner is a green bedroom, it also has a tv. Beside it is a red bathroom. The middle-left red room is an art studio - it has the sketch board and the easel there. Above that is the other bedroom - yellow and orange. This one has a couch instead of a TV. As you can see, two of the corners of the floor 2 are small balconies to relax on. In?

BACKYARD

Spacious backyard and pretty straight forward. Hot tub, sitting area with another terrace - the garden around it has plants already started for you. Some of these are WA plants, but this is the only time I use the WA expansion pack in this house. Down those stairs is a nice curved pool - I have no idea how I made it, it just turned out nice, and three more lounge chairs in the colours not already used on the chair previously (excluding white).

And that's about it! Hope you enjoyed.
