I'm not sure of the exact film reference there, other than The Exorcist, but I know what you mean! Every now and then my hubby gets fed up with my sims addiction. Unfortunately, to keep the peace, I often end up sitting with him watching our tv shows on the last night of a challenge - and end up not finishing the long ones, because he chooses to get annoyed right when I'm trying to finish one up! This year I'm trying to manage the time better so that I don't have to rush at the end, but it's hard with 3 kids.
Still, this challenge should be fun. I like using features that I normally don't play with. I'm glad I had time to fiddle with the memories before we got the option to turn them off!

Pets is the one expansion I don't have.

I have Pets, so, if I decide to try this challenge, I will be able to as it is set up.

However, for those who don't have Pets, would it not be possible to have an alternative, so long as they say they do not have the EP.  Perhaps they could be allowed to enter with some adjustment, possibly:

a: One adult and one child.
b: One adult and one child with a score adjustment for the missing pet.
c: One adult and two children.
d: One adult, one child and one simbot, if they can obtain one within the normal game rules.

Just an idea!

  • Your household is allowed a total of 18 days vacation — every household member’s total in their Adventure Journal counts against the 18 days.
  • The challenge ends on Week 8, Day 7 11:59 PM.

I don't quite understand. What do you mean by 'every household's member total... counts against the 18 days?

Hi Kitty,

I'm fairly sure it means the following:
You can have up to 18 days total of holidays in this challenge.
If you, for example, have 4 members in your household, and you send them all on a holiday for 3 days each, you would have 12 days taken up out of your allotment, and you would only have 6 days left.

So, it is up to you to make sure you don't go on holidays for any more than 18 days total.

Alright. I had a feeling that's what it implied but, it's always best to be sure.

Thanks a lot Dek.

the rules/ scoring haven't been changed before for people without certain expansions, it usually just means some people will have lower scores. I think the results from handyman challenge may be a good example of this.

If any challenges come up that benefit from Showtime I'll struggle but that's the way it goes

I don't know how much of a problem this will be over the course of the challenge, but my practice Sim has 9 total memories, each one unique in the scrapbook, but only 8 unique memories in the statistics. I suspect the discrepancy can result from getting two memories from the same action.

Is this just a glitch we'll have to live with, or can we go with the higher number from the scrapbook?

I'm also wondering if it's possible that some of our players will reach the limit of 300 memories before running out of time.

This was indeed one of the reasons this went from a 12 week to an 8 week event. I would be curious to know from testers (via PM NOT posting in this thread) if 300 memories is still quite easy. If it is I may reduce the time even more to allow more score variety.

You have to go by the stat.  Remember this is a challenge about the total of unique memories not the number of memories you get.  So you have to follow what the actual game statistic says.  This is just like the handyman one where even if you thought you got them all but the percentage wasn't right you had to submit the percentage the game gave you.  There's a game reason for it to be that way and it probably stems from how can a memory of something you already got a memory of be unique?

And yes we've never changed the rules for people without expansions and never will.   Some challenges are just going to be harder for those with less expansions.

I appreciate the thought, Wai. I was not trying to get the rules changed, just expressing my own disappointment. Not being able to participate in this one particular challenge will only affect my overall score by a little bit (I hope, lol), so it won't stop me from participating in the other challenges.

Jaymi - I would suggest trying this challenge for yourself.  Not having to handle a pet could mean getting more for your two main scoring Sims.  Think about it. ;)

Edit for Clarification: Anyone can do one of the challenges we give as long as you have access to the basic metrics.   So as long as you have memories in your game, you can do this challenge.    If you don't have WA, that just means you won't travel.  If you don't have pets, that just means you won't post a score for pets.     Someone who has pets could choose to not post a score for pets.   It's all about strategy at that point.

I'm glad I said something then, lol. I don't believe I am the only one who is wanting to compete in the challenges without having all the expansions. Knowing that not having a pet for this one is not a make it or break it situation makes me very happy.  :D

This event is all about the Scrapbook/Memory component of the game...accumulating as many Unique Memories from 3 different household members — a Young Adult, Baby, and Pet.

I understood that these chellenges were for everyone regardless of their EP's.

The way the goal is worded, it appears to exclude those who do not own "Pets" which is why at least one possible entrant thought that they were excluded.

Perhaps a slight change to the wording of the goal would be helpful.   Just a suggestion.  Perhaps it would be clearer if it read "up to 3 different household members - a Young Adult, a Baby, and (if available) a Pet.  Or something similar.

I have to admit, that was the exact reason I thought I would not be able to participate in this challenge. Not having other expansions such as Generations or Seasons would not be an issue, but without Pets I would be missing a required component. Not trying to talk my way out of being able to compete, simply explaining my thought process.
