In my very first game, I tried to get as many gnomes and RI's as possible, due to information on both that I found online . . . so I guess this was just my lucky day!

I set up pretty much everything to get every gnome right away, since I know it can take a while since it's so random. First thing, I adopted a dog, cat, and horse, and set them up with two fridges and a salt lick. The respective gnomes popped up right away, except for the cat one, but I got rid of her anyway, because she was becoming irritating and there's a very small chance the gnome will spawn.

I had all my seasons set to 3 days each, so it was easy enough to get the "witch" gnome from the Haunted House (it only took one run through the haunted house, actually), and I had my sim garden to get the spring gnome. In the winter, she made many snowmen, and I think the summer one popped up from all the parties she was throwing to raise relationship with romantic interests!

This entire time, she was a magician and I finally let her perform a few shows, and the gnome popped up. She wasn't a witch, but she is lucky, so it only took her a few hours to win the Gnome of the Darned from the claw machine. I set her up with a miner and time machine to find Mysterious Mr. Gnome and the Troglodyte, and sent her on a trip to France to get all three travel gnomes from the museum. A few trips to the catacombs scored the evil gnome. And . . . so on, I suppose!
I expect Azokka either to yell at everyone and totally dominate or else get out the popcorn.-Ombradellarosa

Out of curiosity, which house (and gnome) is this? I didn't know any of the pre-made houses came with gnomes.

Union Cove - there are two starter homes with the Sleeping McNulty gnomes.  I'll get addresses later.  All 5 buy mode gnomes are available in UC actually via home purchase.

I received some extras that way by accident, but Freezer Bunny gnomes are really easy to get from the Claw machine.

I think those are just toys and not actual gnomes! I thought the Freezer Bunny was one of the easiest to get. I can't play in Union Cove. :( But I did try to steal the Sleeping McMulty gnome with no luck! I didn't know about the Move Objects cheat and didn't try for the sculpting gnome and didn't really bother for the inventing. I didn't bother with the Celebrity gnome either. I did leave out the sandwiches but didn't get a gnome from them. I didn't remember to do it every night though! Gnome of the Darned took me forever to get from the claw machine! Didn't know that fairies could cheat at it. I had 2 cats and just played with the catnip toy everytime I thought about it. Had the horses like the salt lick. Once I got those I just got rid of the horses and cats and just kept my two dogs which I was BFFs with but the gnome wasn't popping. But figured they weren't a bother so just left them. And every other day or so I would hug each of the dogs to insure my sims remained their BFF and forgot after the first week or so. I got the fall gnome from the haunted house and the rest of the seasons gnomes I got with tickets. I actually just got really lucky with the last few. I was just planning on waiting for spring to hit which was a little over a day away and decided to try the claw machine a few more times to kill time and finally got the Gnome of the Darned. So then I mined until spring and got the Mysterious Mr Gnome and Sleepy McMulty then I finished by moving in the rest of the RIs and luck would have it that the dog gnome showed up. The rest of the gnomes were already discussed by others!

Hehe, all those practice runs and I never noticed! That'll teach me to shove them straight into a chest and not let them hop around :D

I went in and checked my challenge save just in case, and it was an actual gnome that was scored, not a toy. Phew.

I dug out my old heartbreaker sim for this, her traits were flirty, great kisser, hopeless romantic, charismatic and ambitious.

I chose Riverview as I know it the best and know just how to manipulate the men there, that sounds so awful  ;D

First thing I did was learn the charisma skill then as soon as pets were available I adopted a dog, I then had it bark at the fridge till I got a freezer bunny gnome, it didn't take long, next I went in search of Billy Caspian, it was important he wasn't at home for this, I found him by the bookstore got him up to RI, he helped with that by kissing her, moved him in and gave him the gnome and the dog then kicked him out. He very kindly left me his Vaguester which I sold to complete her ltw of swimming in cash. I got her a motive mobile with the points.

Then it was off to France for a day, I picked up the gnomes then went around saying hello to locals till I got the charisma skill challenge, from then on it was basically a case of saying to any man she met "Hello, are you single? oh you are, well in that case I love you." and it worked like a charm, I was careful not to have too many RI's at once and would watch where they went when kicked out then go and dump them. She kept her good rep almost till the end when Don Lothario of all people accused her of cheating, I mean really, Don Lothario  ???

When I set up my town I put the Sudsy Time laundry in from the bin, I think it came with Town Life stuff, and so I just circled the machines until I got a laundry gnome, I had her inventing till she got that gnome then she stopped as I already had a miner from the consignment store, I used that at the fish hatchery as it was well away from any houses so I could still carry on at night, it only netted me a Mysterious Mr Gnome though.

I knew how to get all four seasons gnomes and had made my seasons short, first summer no gnome despite doing everything to attract him, Fall I got in the haunted house, I kept going in and out all day for the tickets even after I got the gnome, winter never showed up despite building an army of snowmen yet in my test just four had done the trick, and spring I got from woohooing with Don, found that trick out in a house with three married couples, it was littered with gnomes. When summer came round again I bought a Brawn Brawn with the tickets I'd got in fall.

I didn't try for the dog and cat gnomes as my tests hadn't gone well but I adopted two horses and a Zenyatta just appeared one day. The vampire gnome I got from plasma bushes, thing is it appeared when I was planting them which surprised me. And Cranston Boonitz I got after she became a magician, I forgot about the sandwich trick for the lounge lizard.

I really should have stopped there but I chose to try another winter and I was still going after the sculpting gnome, I had 8 stations lined up and queued then cancelled sculptures then used move objects on them, I must have done well over 100 and no gnome, I had also made several enemies and in my test just one had been enough to get an evil gnome in the mail, this time four weeks and nothing, so I wasted those last days as I never got another gnome.

I forgot how awful yet wonderful my heartbreaker sim was, it was great fun to play like that again.

In my practice run, I did it in Union Cove, as Bridgeport was too buggy. I use the first version, because Supersim is still outside his house. Chat him up, take him to the gym, enthuse about exercise. Adopt a dog, have it bark at the fridge, then bring on the romantic socials with Supersim. Become RI's, move in, move out with freezer gnome, get engaged, become 5 star celebrity, and then break up, and be really mean. The more enemies you have, the more chance of being sent an evil gnome. All in less than a day!

Also, buying out the elixir consignment shop for good potions straight after that helps. A liquid job booster will get your magician career up quickly to get Cransten Boonitz. The summoning trick makes him appear the fastest.

Getting gardening to level 7 is as easy as buying about 50 lettuces and 60 potatoes, and planting them all - making sure you have a few good buffs to be in a perfect mood. Then plant a few plasma fruits. They don't even need to be fully grown.

Hi, everyone! :)
Congratulations to Drift9999, LenaLJ and all participants!
Many thanks to Metro and all the Moderators for creating and supporting this event.

I think there was a lot of luck involved with this challenge. So, I went the 'easy route' with gnomes that could be found 'within reason'. I then refined testing until I could be sure to find at least 17 of them in 11 to 13 days max.
Reading over the comments, I'm shocked to find that the Sleeping McMulty Gnome counted as a magic gnome. I dispatched this one as soon as found, because it doesn't move. Am I wrong in thinking that it is not a magical gnome at all?  :o

'Femme Fatale' lived in Bridgeport. 16, Dean Road allows for drilling without disturbing neighbours.
All seasons were set to three days. I turned off hail, rain, snow and fog.
Femme (a genie) became a 5-star celeb overnight, but unfortunately, received no Bling-A-Boo in the official file.
She found Mysterious Mr Gnome and Evil Mr Gnome from drilling. She found the Gnome of Invention as well as the Gnome of Sculpting from mining.

She skated for 500 festival tickets.  The time can be cut short on a large rink like the one in Bridgeport by cancelling the action at the exact right time. Each ticket counted double with 'Festival Frequenter'. She went to France for one day to get the Famous Three from the Art Museum and returned with 2000 tickets. That secured the four seasonal gnomes.

Femme had the lucky trait and she found the Gnome of the Darned in three tries on the Claw Machine. In testing, it often took a bit longer, but not by much.

Her puppy, Petunia, found the Freezer Bunny after four barks at the fridge. In testing, I found that it works faster with puppies. I'm ashamed to say Femme never even made friends with her little dog or her horse (who was piggy from eating apples and carrots strewn around). She placed them for adoption as soon as 'the goods' were delivered.  I never bothered with a cat either. The odds of getting the dog and cat gnome didn't look good.

I found the Multiple Adventure Hole very handy. It's a hole your Sim can jump into endless times given a potent invigorator. The use of the moodlet manager will kill the action off (as will a vial of potent bliss and in some circumstances eating food).
Femme found a Multiple Adventure Hole in one try a couple of times - alas not in the official file. She had to drill eight holes to find one.

Femme used three liquid job skill boosters. Testing had shown that four job boosters was ideal, but it was not to be in the official file. Magician-Illusionist was reached in 22 hours and the corresponding gnome was conjured almost at once. Singer-Headliner took up the two other job boosters. She had to plug on for about four hours after the effect of the last booster ran out. Lounge Lizard Gnome arrived on 11 pm on the next day in the official file (but in testing he often appeared on the same day). This gnome always arrived in the bathroom where I had placed a xylophone close to a stereo speaker.

Anecdote:
My best test file result was 19 gnomes in 11 days. It was really a question of sitting around waiting for the Spring Festival stands to open to get Bucktooth Butternut (last of 19) and it happened only once.
This was one of my early testing files. I had not given a thought to the Art Museum in France and the easy spoils there yet.
My Sim (called Rumple Stiltkin) went to explore the catacombs in Egypt for Sultan Sam. He'd hardly found the gnome when the sky turned dark. A gigantic space rock hit the catacombs and scattered all those lovely bits of space rock and scrap around. Rumple started drilling. He found Mysterious Mr Gnome and Evil Mr Gnome in one go. His next drilling hole was a Multiple Adventure Hole. He found Mr Manchu, Little Leon, the Magical Gnome of Sculpting and Inventing within six hours. Rumple went home before his first day abroad was over. All the other gnomes were easily acquired and there was plenty time for romancing and so forth!
Woah! Pure bliss when the game treats you nicely like that!  :P

The rules never said it had to be magic gnomes.   A gnome is a gnome is a gnome unless you bought the gnome for this challenge.   Also - that's an exploit with the festival frequenter LTR that you used that I completely forgot about.  Using exploits is very much frowned upon.  It's like selling things over and over while the game is paused for cash.

Well after reading everyone strategies, I have to say that I did almost the same thing.  I didn't go after the dog or cat gnome which now reading I probably should have.  Most of the gnomes came easy for me while others not so much.  On mutli testing I got the Invention gnome and the Lounge Lizard but in my final run they wouldn't pop no matter what I did.  I never tried for the Sculptor Gnome because after lf hours of testing it never popped.  Congrats to all that finished...this was a fun challenge

congrats on the excellent scores everyone. I got double the gnomes in my test files but was unlucky in the real thing

One thing that nobody else has mentioned yet is that you don't need it to be autumn to get Crackin Nackerbell you can place the haunted house on an owned lot and go round it as you like. This meant you could exclude autumn from the season rotation and aim for fewer days potentially.

Ricalynn when you say "Using exploits is very much frowned upon" what does this cover? Other challenges have fully utilised exploits and have been key to many strategies. Each challenge someone has mentioned a strategy/ practice that I'd consider to be explicitly against the rules. Sometimes the rules are taken literally and sometimes "in the spirit of". It's not very helpful if we don't know how literally we are to take the rules

An exploit is using a game glitch to your advantage.   Festival tickets doubling through travel or just moved out of the inventory and back again, selling a vaguester twice because the game is on pause.   You're not supposed to get double tickets just because the inventory changed.  You're not supposed to be able to sell the vaguester twice.

Using the mechanics of the game is not considered an exploit.  Using the glitches of the game can be.   If you want to further this discussion, you can always send me and the rest of the team a PM about what you consider to have been used in the past that was really a game exploit.

I am gutted. I dispatched four Sleeping McGulty gnomes from digging. Stupid me!

As for the exploit... well, I never thought about it that way. There was no malicious intent or a deliberate intent to cheat involved. I did what I did in good faith and simply thought it was a good strategy.

I read the intro/rules to some of the older challenges. At some point it said (more or less) about discussing strategy: 'It's alright to say that playing the guitar at the theatre will allow for tips. It is another matter to say that repeating a song over and over will increase the size of the tips.' I think the skating bit falls into this category. I never once considered 'discussing' it.

As I said, I didn't consider skating and cancelling an exploit. Once a Sim has skated, he has skated. One could even argue that if one full round is skated, it's not that different in time from having one's face painted over and over again. The sim will move out of the rink and take time to move back into it. I reckon 3 to 4 skates in an hour. A face paint takes twenty minutes.

As for the doubling tickets; this cannot be avoided when travelling, and therefore, I think it's quite different from selling an object twice with use of the 'pause' button. If this was not allowed, the rules should have stated no travelling with tickets. Unfortunately, there is no way to store these tickets without a treasure chest (not even sure they can be stored in ther either) and we couldn't give them to a household member, because adding to the household was not allowed.

I fully understand what you're saying, Rica. But I hope you can see my point of view too.
If, however, you think that I compromised the rules with my strategy, I offer a well-meant apology to ever participant of this challenge. Also, if this is the case, I suggest you penalize me and change my ranking accordingly. :)
