Welcome to the forum Michelle!

I think your math is a little off.   I get 4000 for 16 days.

I ended up having such a busy month, that I didn't get a chance to start till today.  So I'm turning in a very pathetic score from Gnomeo Cassagnomeva.

1 Gnome / Romantic Interest = 1000
1 Day = -250
Total = 750

Hope everyone had fun!  I'm looking forward to hopefully doing better on the memories challenge.

I think the gnomes hated me! (11:58 here, so I'm still okay, right??)

16 gnomes/RIs in 28 days - gives me 16000 - 7000 = 11000

Edit: Shoot! The post says it was made at 12:07... I'll leave it up to you guys if it counts (pretty please?)

Just in time like always! Haha! I think this one had to do with luck quite a bit. I played all day on Friday and I wasn't going to play tonight I didn't think I would have any time to but I did and luckily I did I found another 4 gnomes that I couldn't get to appear when I was playing before! I am pretty excited this is the best I have ever done on a challenge and the best I will probably ever do. Haha but I am ok with that.

Anyways I played to Week 3 Day 1 and took 1 vacation day so 16 total days.
16 x 250= 4,000
I also had 16 gnomes/RI.
16 x 1000= 16000
16000 - 4000= 12000

Please double check my score. And thanks for the fun challenge now off to bed I have stayed up way past my bedtime the past days playing this.

The challenge ends at 12 your local time so if it's not 12 where you are then you should be ok.

Well this was a fun challenge. Another challenge based on quite a bit of luck and some strategy hehe.  I think I am officially all gnomed out now.  :)

So I stopped my challenge at 12 days (11 town days and 1 vacation day) with 13/RI and gnomes;

13 x 1000 = 13000
12 x 250 = 3000

13000 - 3000 = 10000

Great work everyone that participated :)

That's a wrap, folks. Great job to drift9999 for coming out on top. Everyone is now free to share their strategies for this event. For those of you that have participated in the first 3 challenges you can look forward to the first rendition of this year's World Ranking later today after I crunch all of the numbers.

Well I certainly know where I messed up!  I should have never tried for the Uni gnome.   That gnome is in every other file but my official gnome file.  I spent way too long at Uni.

Luck was only partially on my side for this one.  The first thing my Sim ever invented was a gnome.   I got to level 5 sculpting and he immediately made a gnome.  I was all prepared to use the MoveObjects on trick but he did it on the first one after reaching the right level.  I made my Sim a fairy so he could garden quickly and cheat at the Claw Game.   However, it actually took me until the last day to get a normal Mr Mysterious.   I can't think of anything else right now though.  I just remember thinking that RNG was a cruel friend.

Sims just didn't like my sim for some reason. That, and I had no luck in finding gnomes. Even gnomes that every other game came easily to me, I had no luck with. I decided I'd push on and go to end of week 4 for two reasons

1) I wanted to be at the bottom of the list
and
2) I wanted to give more points to everyone else. I think I succeeded in both parts of my quest!

I did a test run with needs static and succeeded in getting every gnome and learning how. However, I did everything I knew would get a gnome in the actual challenge and they just weren't coming! I went on for longer than I should have, as I was determined to get ones I knew I could get.

I learned gardening and charisma first, then introduced my sim to everyone she met to get the celebrity challenge. I used the move objects cheat to see what the sculptures were, and made many of one of the widgets until I got an inventing. Like Rica, I have the in gnome in every file but my challenge one and wasted time trying to get it. Fun challenge though :)
From the moment I fell down that rabbit hole I've been told what I must do and who I must be. I've been shrunk, stretched, scratched and stuffed into a teapot. I've been accused of being Alice, and of not being Alice, but this is my dream. I'll decide where it goes from here.

Good job everyone, especially those with the dedication to get 22 or all 23 of the gnomes!

Looking at the scoring system, you should actually go for a gnome only if the "expected time" to get the gnome is less than 4 days, as a gnome is worth 1,000 and each day costs you 250 points. I essentially split the gnomes into 2 categories: set-up (those where you need to prepare conditions under which the gnome can spawn, and wait) and activity (those where you need to do some direct action to get the gnome). I tried to set up the conditions for the set-up gnomes as early as possible (Vampire, Blingaboo, Cranstan Boonitz and the pet gnomes, in particular) and then took care of the activity gnomes (the rest, basically).

I used a Fairy, but used a Genie elixir part-way through. Also, I set the season length to 4 days - this is critical for my strategy of getting the seasonal gnomes from the festivals. Traits: Ambitious, Dog Person, Flirty, Hopeless Romantic, Eccentric.

I played in Bridgeport. Right off the bat, I used the Midas Touch and Wish Enhancing Serum elixirs to quickly satisfy my Sim's LTW of Swimming in Cash. I bought the Motive Mobile, the Festival Tickets LTR (can't remember what it's called), and went on vacation to France for a day, to get the WA gnomes and also to read up on Gardening. Returning back, I got my gardening to 7, started the Charisma skill for the celebrity challenge, and also said hi to several high-level celebrities, promptly throwing Jars of Potent Friendship on them to get my own celebrity level up to 5.

Romantic Interests
Jar of Potent Friendship, plus me being a Hopeless Romantic Flirty Sim was what I used, mainly. I also worked up to Level 5 Celebrity and put in some work on the charisma skill; this also gave me a good set of best friends to work with when doing the RI kick-out job. Not too hard, actually.

Gnomes obtained
Mysterious Mr. Gnome - I got him by drilling with the Miner. You can also get Mysterious Mr. Gnome by transfiguration of gems/metals that are worth a little over 1,000 I think; was doing the miner more for the evil gnome, though.

World Adventures:
Sultan Sam, Little Leon and Master Manchu - You can take these from the art museum in France.

Ambitions:
Magical Gnome of Invention - There's a 1.5% chance of getting one of these when completing an invention. Eccentric Trait (reduces time to 85%), and mass-producing cheap (cuts time by half) Dog Toys was what I used. The RNG wasn't too friendly, though; I made about 130 of these before getting the gnome - given that my Sim had 3 discoveries and 130 toys, that would place him in the bottom 13% in terms of luck...
Blingaboo - Came as a celebrity gift. I made sure to get up to level 5 celebrity ASAP (played in Bridgeport), though wasn't counting on this, actually.
Abracadabra the Laundry Gnome - Use the expensive laundry machine and dryer; it should come after a few cycles.
Vampire Gnome - Grow 3 Plasma Fruit bushes on your home lot. There will be a 15% chance that it will spawn every night (I think). I'm not sure if they only count when matured or not, but anyway since I had a Fairy, I Bloomed the bushes to maturity.

Pets:
Felix Felinenimus - Buy the pet toy-box until you can get a cat-nip toy. Then, get the cats to play with it; they will get the Whacked Out moodlet. There's a small chance (0.7%) that the gnome spawns when this happens. I had 5 cats and micromanaged their time on this until I got it.
Zenyatta - Adopt a horse, have it lick a salt-lick... it should spawn soon enough.
Carter Caninenimus - 0.7% chance of spawning, per Dog best friend. Once I had the first 2 gnomes, I removed all of the cats and the horse, and moved in dogs. I had the attractive lifetime reward, and the Celebrity charisma skill-challenge, so that plus Dog-Person helped me make the Dog BFs quickly and smoothly.

Showtime:
Lounge Lizard - You don't have to be a singer. I changed my Sim to a Genie to cast summon food - summon a fried peanut butter and banana sandwich. 15% chance of spawning every night. As for why this does this, I have no idea.
Cranstan Boonitz - I joined the Magician Career and did some performances... it spawned after a while. I've heard you can get this from summoning food (genie) but seemed to have no luck in testing.

Supernatural:
Gnome of the Darned - Fairies can cheat at the claw machine as Ricalynn has said, making this quite quick.

Seasons:
4 Seasons Gnomes - I got the LTR that doubles carnival tickets (can't remember what it's called offhand). I then queued up and immediately cancelled 8 Skate cues on the carnival grounds; repeat a few times. This is best done when you can't/shouldn't do other stuff (e.g. I try not to use the miner at night, in case my BFs / future RIs get offended). Your Sim will skate one lap around the rink and then get out, and score ten tickets. Repeat ad nauseum (until you have 2000 tickets). During the appropriate season, you can buy the seasonal gnome for 500 tickets.
Evil Mr. Gnome - I used the Miner. You can also use trick-or-treating, or have some luck with submitting a lot of gems and metals to be cut/smelted.

Gnomes not obtained
Sculpting Gnome - Forgot about the MoveObjects On trick, so I wrongly concluded that it would take too long and not be worth it!
Troglodyte - Time Machine travel to the past, or using the Miner. My test results were less than positive for this, in terms of expected value...
Freezer Bunny - 0.1% chance of spawning every time a cat freaks out at the fridge, or a dog barks! Didn't think of getting this (too random) - I figured that if I got it, I got it, and if I didn't, I wouldn't pursue it.
University Gnome - Don't have University, so automatically out.

Thanks for a solid (and pretty tricky) challenge - I like these decision-making ones, where you can choose to stop or keep going, honestly. Off to Memory-ville now...

Did you actually get the singer gnome with the sandwich?  It's in the coding but it never happened in my testing.  That Freezer bunny is a lot easier to get than you think.  It took 6 dog barks at the fridge to get it.  I've never had it take longer than a day.

I want to mention - one of the things that had me get so many gnomes was moving into a house that came with a gnome.   I bought the house not the gnome and was given a pass by several moral compasses and the challenge guy.

Rica, I managed to get the singer gnome in my practice but not actual challenge file. I left at least one sandwich out every day and I guess it's random whether you will or not.

Just goes to show how much luck was involved with this one I guess.

Yep... Guess there's a lot of luck involved.
With regards to the freezer bunny, I guess maybe I should have done some real testing for that one then; I saw 0.1% chance in the code, and my brain immediately said "no". Probably something like 17,250 (getting the bunny and the sculpture one) would have been doable in that case.

I want to mention - one of the things that had me get so many gnomes was moving into a house that came with a gnome.   I bought the house not the gnome and was given a pass by several moral compasses and the challenge guy.
Out of curiosity, which house (and gnome) is this? I didn't know any of the pre-made houses came with gnomes.
