Lately, my game seems to be freezing and crashing fairly often. When I say "freezing and crashing," I mean that sometimes it freezes and then crashes, or just freezes but doesn't crash and I need to force quit, or crashes unexpectedly. This doesn't seem to be tied to any particular action in the game, nor do I think it has anything to do with a bad save file or anything as it's happened in a few different games. I think it's been happening slightly more often since installing 70s, 80s, and 90s stuff a few days ago, but it's a bit hard to tell... it's about the same.

The one thing I can say almost for certain is that this is unlikely to be a computer issue unless there's something more sinisterly wrong with my machine. I'm on a pretty new (2 months old) Macbook Pro with a 2.6GHz processor, 16GB of RAM, and a good video card, so it's incredibly unlikely my computer is the cause of it.

There is one thing I can think of that MIGHT be causing it, but it's a bit hard to explain so bear with me. This is actually an issue I had asked about separately on here, so it might ring a bell to someone. Anyway, a while back I made a house that I fell in love with so much that I use it frequently even in new games. Somehow, the copy I saved to the library got lost, so I went to the saved game of the family I had built the house for. I saved the house to the library, but then found the save file for that family had gotten corrupted. Afterwards, it appeared that trying to place the house taken from the corrupt file was causing issues even in fresh games, so I deleted it.

Fortunately, I had a version of that family saved from a while back that wasn't corrupt. (At some point, I had "saved as" something different, which is the one that was corrupted, so I returned to a save well before then). They were living in that same house I loved, just a slightly older version that needed some fixing. I saved a copy to the library.

Just yesterday, I started a new game in Riverview, plopped the older version of the house down and fixed it up some. I moved in my new family (the Smithsonians heh). This is the game that seems to be giving me the most trouble with freezes and crashes, but it happens in other games too. It's possible it happens more in the file with the "problem house," but it could also just be proportionate as I've been playing that file a lot.

Anyway, any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I think those are pretty much all the details I have at the moment, though of course I'll answer anything else you all think would be helpful to know.

I seem to have a lot of technical issues, so lastly I'd just like to say thanks for all of your collective patience, and thanks in advance for whatever help you might have for this issue :)

Does it just shut down? Because if the case, it could be over heating. So to stop that just lift the back of your PC/Mac two inches off the surface. I did that and it fixed the crashing completely. Most of the time it's not the files or bugs (If you update it regularly) but it's just the laptop over heating. It overheats since this game takes up a lot of CPU usage.
