Does weather/temperature vary between towns?
« on: January 26, 2013, 05:51:13 AM »
I've only played with Seasons in two towns so far: a test game in Monte Vista and my Life States Dynasty in Twinbrook.  It might just be random variation but Twinbrook seems much colder.  I set the year to permanent spring for the dynasty (after the initial three days of summer that you seem to get unless you use cheats), thinking that would give pretty neutral weather with the plants able to grow.  Certainly, spring in Monte Vista was pleasantly warm.  In Twinbrook, it's cold enough for the plants to be dormant more than half of the time and the pond is often frozen over.

From what I have seen, the answer is "No".

Bridgeport has very cold winters, very rainy springs and very foggy falls.

However, my sim has a vineyard in France, so I set France to have 21 days of summer and 7 days for each of the other seasons. That way she can harvest her grapes, and during off season make her nectar.

MoMoll, I didn't think the vacation worlds had weather and seasons.

My impression is that there's not much variation in temperature between towns. It was cold enough for the pond to freeze over in Monte Vista in spring and fall; Lucky Palms is not appreciably warmer in summer.

So I was just lucky in Monte Vista (I was using short seasons, so it probably wasn't a fair test).  Thanks.

I haven't played past summer to see; but, it does rain and hail. And the weather stone showed up.

@MoMoll:  Are you certain you have the seasons while in France?  I didn't think the two expansions would cross like that.

As for the differences in weather, sometimes it seems that the seasons are all unique.  I've had warm springs where the garden would grow, and also cool springs where they were dormant.  Also, fall that stays warm enough for plants nearly to winter.  I can say that all of the temperatures are substantially cooler in every season compared to what I experience in Texas!  I look at those daily temperatures and think, "No way!"  ;D

Seasons in WA-locations is a feature of Twallan's Traveler.

I do have used Twallan's traveller mod, way before Seasons (cleaned out the tavel bugs). BUT, I wasn't aware it had anything to do with weather. I checked his site and didn't see that it effected the weather. So, I assumed, the weather was part of the base game. Guess it's my mistake.

I don't think that the type of town has anything to do with the temperature. I'm pretty sure it only seems that way because each season is different. It's like how some springs are really hot, but then others are cool and rainy.
