Chapter Twenty-Nine
P.O.V: New Generation S "This place is creepy..." The four Churchills were walking through the Pyramid of the Sun, looking for the jewel the collection helper showed.
"I know." Dale sighed "And the Collection helper's not being much help right now. There's no mad of the pyramid, it just says that we're inside a giant brown triangle."
"Well, you can't expect the makers of that this to have been inside any pyra- hold it!" Kate stopped abruptly, holding out her arms at her sides to stop her sisters from advancing.
"What is it?"
Kate didn't answer, instead picked up a small rock from the floor, and chucked it onto the section of ground right in front of them. Instantly, tall jets of fire shot out of the ground, forming a barrier to keep them from going any further.
"Well, that's just great!" Esther snapped. "Now what?"
"I guess we could try jumping over the flames..."
"Are you nuts, Kay?! That'll burn us into charcoal briquettes!"
"I'd like to see
you come up with a better idea, Dee!"
"Here's an idea" Shikerah grumbled from where she had been standing near the wall of flames. "Why don't we use common sense?" She yanked the cork out of their water canteen, and poured a generous amount of it on one of the flaming pillars. The water pushed the flames down, and when they were forced to retreat back into the hole sending them out, a loud cracking noise sounded, and the fire didn't return.
"Great idea, Shi! Thanks!"
"No problem."
They repeated the procedure for the rest of the flame columns, and stepped safely over the now useless, smoking holes.
"Okay, we've gotten past the fire trap, so we should be in the clear! I don't now why the always say pyramid exploring is so hard!" Esther declared, as they made their way through the corridors of the pyramid. At that instant, huge bolts of electricity shot out of the ground, much like the fire traps had done only minutes before.
"...Murphy's Law."
Time skip... "Just be glad there was another way past that trap." Dale said, as they opened the door to the next room.
"I am, Dale, I am." Esther told her. "But look! All our hard efforts are about to be rewarded!" She poined at a stone treasure chest sitting against the wall opposite them. "C'mon and hep me open it!" The three girls were so excited over the treasure chest, they didn't even noticed the heavy stone sarcophagus on their left.
"Awesome! Here's a money bag... A nice ruby... Ooh, and a Crystal Ball cut Rainbow Gem! This'll look great in our room!"
It was at this point that a loud and bone-chilling groan filled the room, informing them of the fifth presence in the room. Slowly, they turned around, and saw a mummy lurching towards them, it's heavily bandaged contorted with rage.
"Oh. My God." Dale whispered, as they slowly backed against the wall, the infuriated mummy closing in on them. "Do you think if we gave it the treasure it's leave us alone?"
"Fat chance." Shikeriah muttered. "As long as it's awake, it might as well find some humans to feed on."
"Alright Kay, you're the smarted one here." Esther hissed. "How do we get out of this mess?"
"Okay... count to five in your heads. And when you reach five, you...
RUN LIKE HECK!
The four Churchills shot towards the door as fast as they could, but stopped dead when they heard Shikeriah scream. Turning around, they saw that the mummy had grabbed Shikerah's ankle, and slammed her to the ground. Without thinking, Dale ran up to the mummy, and kicked it hard in the face. It moaned and loosened it's grip on her sister. Dale grabbed Shikeraih's hand and started pulling her as fast as she could through the pyramid. Shikriah yelped in pain.
"Ouch! I think my ankle's sprained..."
"I know, sorry." Dale panted. "But we have to get out of here, the mummy might try to curse us!"
When they reached the entrance, they saw with horror that the door was closing. most likely for good.
"If that mummy doesn't kill you, Esther, I will!" Kate shouted, leaping over the slowly rising door.
Esther followed her sister, then turned to look at her remaining sisters. "Hurry, the mummy's gaining on you two!"
Shikerah let go of her sister's hand. "Go. I can make it myself."
"Shikeriah-"
"Go!"
Dale quickly scrambled over the door, which was now halfway shut, and Shikeriah quickly began limping over to join her sisters. She suddenly screamed in pain, as she stepped on her ankle wrong and collapsed. She looked back, and saw the mummy less thank half a foot away form her.
"SHIKERAH!"
Frantically, Shikerah began trying to scramble back to her feet, but her twisted ankle wouldn't let her. Angered, Kate leaped over the closing door, grabbed her sister around her stomach, and jumped out the diminishing gap between the door and the ceiling. They landed on the hot desert sand, and for a few minutes said nothing only staring at each other in a mixture of fear and relief.
Then Esther spoke up hoarsely. "I never want to go back there ever again."
