Chapter Eight
It had been a couple months since Amanda's run-in with Jenna, and she hadn't seen her since. Currently, she was watching Raymond playing guitar- something he was very good at- while Heather painted. Then she remembered that she needed to go shopping for groceries, and buy Raymond some more sheet music.
"Heather, Raymond, I'm off to do some shopping. I'll be back in a few minutes" she said, as she sat down on the rug in the middle of the room.
"Okay!" Heather called as she added a chimney to the house in the domestic scene she was painting. "Have fun!"
"Bye, honey!" Raymond said, as he gave Amanda a kiss on the cheek "Be back soon, I'm making hamburgers." Amanda nodded, and resumed her meditation. After a couple of hours, she Zeneported away. At the same time, she appeared outside Divadstrio Budget Books, and bought some music, as well as some Kids books for heather, and some toys. After that she walked into the supermarket, and bought ten of everything on the grocery list, because they were running out. Amanda certainly didn't want to start eating canned soup and cereal again.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch...
Raymond was trying to take a nap before he got dinner started, but it was pretty hard, considering Heather was in a pretty wild mood. Not to mention an "Asking Questions" mood.
"Daddy!" Heather called. Raymond opened one eye.
      "Yes, Heather?"
"Why is my old crib out? I don't need it anymore." Heather asked, poking the crib curiously.
"I'll tell you later, Heather. Can you please let me sleep?"
"Fine, fine." Heather pouted, walking over to her toy oven. "I'm gonna bake a pie for mommy, when she comes home!" Raymond was hoping that would keep Heather quiet for a bit, but unfortunately, Heather had gotter a hold of one of Raymonds sheet musics, that contained lyrics, and read it one bored afternoon while waiting for the pain on her canvas to dry, and for the cookies to bake. She also liked to sing while she worked. "DJ oh DJ oh go! DJ oh DJ oh go! DJ oh DJ oh go! DJ oh DJ oh! Go go go!~"
"Heather!" Raymond snapped. "Please be quiet!"
"Oh, yeah. Sorry." Heather returned to her baking, thankfully without singing. After a couple hours, Amanda Zeneported back in, with the books and groceries. "Welcome back, mom!" Heather yelled, running over I baked you a-" she was interrupted by a sharp gasp from her mother, and saw her clutching her stomach. "Mom? Are you okay?" she asked, worried. Raymond rushed to his wife's side.
"Raymond, I think the labor's started!" Amanda told her husband, her words punctuated by gasps of pain. Heather watched the whole scene, confused.
Time skip...
"Awwwww...." Heather cooed as she looked at the small bundle in her mother's hands. "She's so cuuuute!"
"Let's let her sleep for a bit, okay?" Amanda asked, as she put the baby in the crib, along with the wooden toy.
"Ok!" Heather skipped off to her easel. "I'm gonna paint her a picture!"
"Where'd you get the toy?" Raymond asked, "It looks to well crafted to be from the consignment store."
"I got it from one of the most talented sculptors in Sunset Valley." Amanda answered. "I think her name was Whimsey Douglas."
"Ah. By the way, shouldn't the baby have a name?" Raymond inquired.
"She already does." Amanda said softly. "Rose Churchill."
----
Chapter Notes:
* There is, of course, no way amanda could have bought a toy from Whimsey. I just wanted to sneak in a mention of one of my favorite Dynasties.
* "Back at the ranch" does mean "back at home", right?
* The song Heather was singing is "Drop the Base", the song I listen to when I'm writing these chapters! :D
* Churchill was actually Amanda's original last name, not Raymond's. His was probably something lame like Smith of Clark, (I'm really bad at thinking up last names.) and it was Amanda who proposed, thus making Raymond's last name Churchill. I had to make Amanda propose, as Raymond wasn't part of the active household at the time. I just changed it around in the story because Patriarchies are more common that Matriarchies.
* Yes, I skipped Amanda's labor again. I haven't improved at all since chapter 5. :-\
* Man, this chapter is long! I guess I want on a total writing craze! ;D
* Which reminds me, I'm shocked at how short chapters 1-4 were! I guess "Drop the Base" is more motivating than "Hino Hino".
* Tell me what you think of this chapter! Pwease? :3

Oi what is wrong with the last name Smith  ;D I am not good at choosing last names either which is why I usually go for really common names like Smith or Jones.

Great update.

Important Note
This chapter and possibly the next one will be told from Heathers Point of View. It'll still be in third person limited, but focus more on Heather, and show her thoughts. Okay, onto the story.

      Chapter Nine
It was around six in the morning when Heather woke up. She quietly slipped out of bed, and walked over to the dresser. She quickly got dressed, and made sure everyone was still asleep before she got on all fours and squeezed into the small space between her parents bed and the stone walls of the only home she's ever known. Then, she pulled her music box from under the bed, wound it up, and opened it. She sighed happily as the familiar melody reached her ears, and next took out Wuggy, her teddy bear. She began waving him above her head, pretending he was an astronaut bear flying amongst the stars. Stars. Amanda had told her about them, small, bright sparkles that filled the night sky. She had also told her that the sky, at night, went from a pretty, light blue to a mystical deep indigo. Heather gazed up at the concrete ceiling hoping that somehow, it wouldn't be there, and that she could see al the way up to the sky, with the last of the  bright stars twinkling among the pale pink dawn light. No such luck. It was the same as it always was, the rough, grey material covering the sky she had never seen. With a sigh, this one disappointed, Heather closed the music box, stowed it under the bed, and crawled out to start the muffins for breakfast.
      Time skip...
After breakfast, everyone headed off to do their own thing. Amanda and Raymond started a sparring match, Rose crawled off somewhere, and Heather went to go paint. Today, she decided to use a medium sized canvas, and paint a starry night sky. However, it was a lot harder than she thought. Black paint kept running into the yellow and white dots she put on it, the stars ended up to big and blobby, and she kept getting water on her canvas when she shook off her brush. When she was done, it looked nothing like the majestic night sky she had imagined so many times.
"Mom, can you come look at my painting?" Heather called to Amanda, who was having a cup of coffee. She walked over, and studied the painting.
"Umm... Is it abstract art?" Amanda asked, not wanting to hurt her daughters feelings.
"No! It's the night sky! Oh, I knew this was an awful painting!" Heather groaned.
"It's alright, sweetie, this is your first try at painting this, you'll get better with practice." Amanda reassured her.
"I guess..." Heather sighed, and walked over to her bed. She flopped down on it, and pulled the photograph her mother had given her out of the large, baggy pocket of her green cargo shorts. She stared at it for a while, trying to imagine what a real one would look like. Finally, emitting another sigh, she curled up and went to sleep.
      Time skip...
Heather and Rose were playing at the blocks table, but Heathers mind was elsewhere.I really wish I could paint a good starry sky... but I don't know what one even looks like. Maybe I could ask mom to take a picture of one for me. Deep in thought, Heather placed another block on her tower. Then again, mom's got a lot more things to do then go around taking pictures for me, like practicing her own skills, or taking care of Rose. Maybe I could- CRASH! Heathers thoughts were interrupted by Rose swinging a chubby fist into her block tower, destroying it.
"Rose! What was that for?!" Heather snapped angrily. Rose just giggled, and began gnawing on the block she had been holding. "Mom, can you please teach Rose to talk, so she can start taking responsibly for her actions?" Heather called to Amanda. She laughed.
"Tomorrow, all right, sweetie? It's almost dinnertime." Amanda was flipping hamburgers patties at the stove. When they were done, she put them in buns, and set them at the dining table. "Dinnertime!" she called. Raymond gave rose her dinner, a bottle filled with milk, and sat don with his family. As they ate, they talked about what they had done today, and hoped to do tomorrow.
"By the way, honey, have you given any though to what you want?" Raymond asked, setting down his burger. Heather gave him a blank look
   "Want?"
"C'mon, Heather, you remember. Tomorrow's your birthday!"
----
Chapter Notes:
* This is the chapter I wrote yesterday, but lost when Safari crashed. It's always hard rewriting something you've already written.
* Since Heather ages up to teen in the next chapter, I'll be able to post pictures of her tomorrow!
* And... I get the next two weeks off! So, if my mom doesn't mind me blasting "Drop the Base" at six thirty in the morning, updates will be a lot more frequent!
* However, I won't be able to update on Christmas... Well, maybe a short, half chapter, but not a full one.
* I guess Heather seems really depressed in this chapter... Sorry, I didn't mean to make her that gloomy.
* I'll be able to post a picture of Rose when she ages up to child, either in the next chapter or in the one after that.
* Tell me what you think of this chapter! Pwease? :3
