Prologue - Part 1

Haymitch sat alone in the room.

All his life he’d sat here. He’d sat here when he was a child, watching television with his brothers and parents. He’d sat here with Michele, his adored wife. He’d sat here when his first child crawled across the carpet and called him ‘Daddy’. He’d sat here when his mother returned to the Netherworld. He’d sat here after the funeral of his family, all who had perished in a car accident. He sat here now and thought of these things. How his life had come and then slipped through his fingers.

Something was calling him. He could hear it clearly. ‘Haymitch!’ It called. It was a woman. His mother. He floated up the stairs as the voice chanted ‘Haymitch, Haymitch!’ over and over. The voice seemed to be coming from the library. The books were still there, most of them untouched. For some reason that he couldn’t quite explain, his hand started to reach out towards one book in particular.

The voice had been joined by another. A man this time. And he was chanting Haymitch’s name, too. He recognized it as his father.

He took the book back downstairs and opened the pages.

The first few were about his mother, how she had once been a ghost seeking human, then turned into one herself. It went on to talk about an island where she had lived, named Sunlit Tides. She wasn’t there long before leaving for Sunset Valley, where she met his father, Gunther Goth, one of the most highly respected men in the town. To his great astonishment, he found his birth documented in this book as well. His entire childhood was written down within these very pages. It talked about Michele. It talked about Finnick and Alysia. It talked about Peeta. Then suddenly, it was all about Peeta. Peeta and Daydream. Peeta and Daydream and Clove and Glimmer. It had pictures of the girls, Haymitch’s nieces, growing up...

The book came to a sudden end. The rest of the pages were blank.
‘Haymitch?’ It was his mother’s voice again.
‘Mother? Where are you?’ Haymitch called out.
‘That doesn’t matter now. This about you.’ Her voice was soothing, but you could tell she had something that she was desperate to tell.
‘What do you mean? What do I have to do?’ Haymitch was confused.
‘Don’t worry, my child. All will become clear. You will complete the book, complete our future. You are a Believer, Haymitch. And Believers aren’t quitters.’
‘So what do I need to do? I’m old. Surely it’s too late to do anything now?’
‘Your father was a scientist. He foresaw this. Now, go to the family mausoleum. You will find your answer there.’

So Haymitch headed out to the graveyard. He stopped to mourn his parents and his beautiful Michele
.

Then he turned to the mausoleum itself. After taking a deep breath, he went inside.

He found a stone chest and thought this could be it. But it was just filled with a lot of relics and jewels. He knew that this wasn’t what his mother had been telling him about.

However, when he turned around, he saw a spiral staircase, leading to an underground room.

He ventured down.

In the room he found a single table with a white tablecloth. Upon this table was a bottle of a pink, fizzing substance.

When he approached, he felt the warmth of the liquid, bubbling and burning within its flask. He knew what to do.

He downed it in one.

A strange sensation washed over him. He even yelped out in surprise.

But when the sparkles had faded, he felt different.

He was young once more.

So, ladies and gentlemen, prepare to laugh and prepare to cry. Prepare to Believe once more.

Huh, I don't think I've ever seen that color ghost before. What kind of death is that?

Thanks for all the support guys! It was hard leaving Peeta and his family behind but it just had to be done. I don't think Haymitch will fail though  ;)

Prologue - Part 2

A ferry had set sail from Sunset Valley with a very strange passenger on board. Reports said that the individual was no mortal. He didn't walk, he glided across the floor, floating several inches from the floor and his body was transparent with a purple tint. He spoke to no one on the ship, not even the crew. People kept away from the mysterious stranger in fear. When the captain was informed, he went straight away to see the strange man. The man was sitting alone, his head in a book, seemingly paying no attention to the world around him. The captain approached and cleared his throat. The man looked up.

"I've been meaning to speak to you, um... sir." The captain said nervously. The man said nothing.
"May I ask your name, sir?" The captain inquired further.
"Believer. Haymitch Believer." The man mumbled. However, this mumble came out as a ghastly shriek.
"Sorry, sir, I didn't quite..."
"Haymitch Believer."
"Okay, Mr Believer, are you heading for Moonlight Falls?"
"Yes, I am meeting my brother. He can help me."
"Certainly, sir. I wish you a enjoyable journey."

But fate was about to be twisted. When out on a late night stroll out on deck, Haymitch encountered a group of people. Non-believers. Those who don't believe in supernatural. One of them had a spirit catcher and a jar. They captured Haymitch and stuffed him in the jar. The jar was thrown into the sea.

The jar, containing Haymitch, floated for many miles. All hopes of reaching Moonlight Falls had been shattered. The jar was also shattered when it reached land. Haymitch looked around. This wasn't Sunset Valley. This wasn't Moonlight Falls. This was Barnacle Bay.

Don't stop Believing | The Believers | Chapter 1 - New in the Bay
« Reply #9 on: January 23, 2013, 12:02:26 PM »
Chapter 1 - New in the Bay

Haymitch felt strange. He had no idea who he was, where he had come from. All he could find was a wallet in his back pocket, containing a few thousand Simleons, his driving license, a photograph of three boys and a mum and dad with their arms wrapped around each other and a scrap of paper with one word written on it: Dynasty. The Simleons could help him buy a house. The license told him his name. The photograph showed his family, he guessed. But what did Dynasty mean? He would have to work that out himself.

He had no idea of his traits or his main life goal. So he made them up himself: Cat Lover, Couch Potato, Gatherer, Nurturing & Unflirty. And he decided that he'd become a writer and earn at least 4,000 Simleons in royalties every week.

Haymitch's first thing to do was to buy some food. He was poor; he had a few thousand to his name and he needed to be ready for whatever life threw at him. He bought twenty tomatoes and straight away started to gorge on them.

He needed to start on his writing. By the end of the day, he had finished his first novel 'New in the Bay'.

When that was done, the town had gone dark. He still had no home so he headed out to the park to meet some new people.

He found a hard wooden bench to rest his head on for the night. This first day had been good and he couldn't wait to see what the next day would bring.

When he woke in the morning, the world was bright once more. He headed over to the town hall and discovered that the only place he could afford was a plot of land on the other side of town. He took it and when he got there, he found a bed, toilet, desk with computer and a shower. There was a note saying "Welcome to Barnacle Bay! Please enjoy these gifts courtesy of the people of the Bay!"
He was so tired after his rough night that he collapsed into the bed. It was firm and springy but after his night on the bench it was heavenly.

After his long nap, he logged onto his new computer and started his next novel 'Home Sweet Home'.

His skills were good enough now to start in the Journalism career. The boss seemed thrilled to have a ghost on board his team!

Later in the evening, Haymitch had two unexpected visitors.

Haymitch: Okay, Watcher, stop the whole act!

Watcher: What?! You can't talk to me! It's not that kind of writing style.

Haymitch: Your writing style is boring! Look, the Readers are all asleep!

Watcher: No they're not (wake up guys and let me prove my point!)

Haymitch: From now on, I want a bit of input into the writing and organisation of this story! Do not neglect me like you used to!

Watcher: Did you say something, Haymitch? I wasn't paying attention...

Haymitch: Watcher...

Watcher: I'm just messing with you. Right, are you ready to do this properly?

Haymitch: I'm always ready, Snuf!

Chapter 2 - A Mysterious Woman

Watcher: Haymitch? Where are you, buddy?

Watcher: There you are! I was looking all over for you!

Haymitch: Busy... girl *points*

Watcher: Oh, right...

Haymitch: So, do you like the theater?

Unknown girl: I love the theater!

Watcher: Okay, hold it right there, Haymitch! You do not understand the precise art of courtship.

Haymitch: Niether do you. You're 13.

Watcher: I'll have you know I have carefully managed several relationships... on Sims, but that's beside the point. You need to start treating her like the woman she is! So, start with some flowers.

Watcher: Then, a romantic hug...

Watcher: Holding hands...

Watcher: Now, go for it!

Watcher: My work here is done.

Haymitch: What? You think you did all that? I wasn't even paying attention to you.

Watcher: I'd watch yourself, Haymitch, I can always find another Founder!

Haymitch: Fine by me.

Haymitch: In only one night, you have become my moon and my star, my one true love. I never want to be away from your side again. Marry me?

Unknown girl: Oh, Haymitch! This is too perfect!

Watcher: Woah, woah, WOAH! Hold everything! Who is she? What are her traits, how old is she...?

Haymitch: Wedding? Now?

Unknown girl: Sure thing, honey!

Watcher: You didn't even wait to get the wish! Who is she anyway? I demand to know!

Agnes: My name is Agnes.

Watcher: Agnes? Are you Agnes Crumplebottom?

Agnes: No, no. I'm Agnes Seabottom!

Watcher: Honestly, Haymitch, you married the Agnes Crumplebottom parody? The one with the dodgy eyes? I'm not having that in my Dyansty! Off to the hospital you go, Agnes!

Before:

After:

I edited the eyes, removed the beauty spot and added freckles just for fun. Everything else was fine. And I managed it on the cheap beautification.

Agnes then gets a full makeover:

With clothes!

Agnes goes to the fire station to end it with her romantic interest. However, he decides that she is the guilty one and they call it off.

And, finally, I created a proper house for the pair.

Now let's really get this Dynasty rolling!

Anybody experience a bit of deja vu in that chapter?

New eyes look great!  Are you actually, literally 13?  If so, I'm even more impressed with your writing ;)

Yup, my birthday was in September but I've always been good at writing (so I've been told!)
