Depends on what the Sim is doing/LTW:

Rabbit Hole jobbers:

Multi-tasker (single best reward to get promotions quickly)
IF relationships at work are a factor:  Office Hero
After that:
IF political then Observant
IF Forensics then Fast Learner
IF science Career then Fast Learner
Then Steel Bladder
IF science Career then the collection helper
IF Astronaut hardly Hungry
Meditative Sleep
Miscellaneous useful stuff
then:
Collection Helper
Transportation Pod
Replicator
Moodlet Manager
Body Sculptor

Self Employed:

Steel Bladder
Any profession supporting reward- Extra creative for painter, uhhh the novelist reward for a writer, Super Green thumb for gardeners, Consignment booster for sculptors/inventors, or Professional Simoleon Booster for Profession Sims
Meditative Sleep
Dirt Defiant
IF Rennaisance Sim/Descendant of Davinci - Fast Learner
Then whatever is useful
Collection Helper
Transportation Pod
Replicator
Moodlet Manager
Body Sculptor

Fast Learner is a nice boost for any skill and I've liked it a lot for tight timeline jobs/LTW's.

I have always chosen observant first then long distance friend.  I like my Sims to have a vast social choices and being notified when other Sims are about to die from old age.  I like making my Sim hang out with the crusty golden oldie until they pass. Then depending on what career track they take, I go from there.  I do pick steel bladder and dirt defiant early on.  Though I skip dirt defiant if they are gardeners or athletes.  They still get nasty no matter what. I rarely choose hardly hunger since I like all my Sims being able to produce awesome meals.

I usually do the same thing for all my mom sims: Fertility Treatment, Meditative Sleep Trance, or however it's written, and Super Green Thumb. But that's mostly because all of my mom sims somehow end up stay-at-home moms no matter what they were doing before they had 5-10 children :). My rabbit-hole job sims get multi-tasker. I have found it very helpful.

Wait, what is exactly the point off being notified when a person is about to die? I'm in RL not that hearless, but ingame I didn't exactly see the point. Or is it a sinister way on getting a peach of the old victims will?

I am not mean enough to have my own Sims die, but when my Sim's friends die, I like to make them watch.  I think I may be a little sadistic since in game it is just me and not any other 'real' people.  Don't think in RL that I would run over to my friend's house to watch them die.  I wish they did have wills in game, I would have my Sims attending every death then and turn it into a career!   ;)

Ha ha, don't tell me about sadistic. Whenever I see a pregnant sim in town I get my sim to befriend them, invite them to sleep over and not let them go home, so my sim can drive them to the hospital when they go into labour and get the +80 moodlet for themselves.

But anyway, for lifetime rewards I usually get Fast Learner and Meditative Trance Sleep first, they're my favourites. For rabbit-hole-job sims I always get Multi-Tasker and Office Hero.

Long Distance Friend and Observant are useful for Charismatic, friend-based sims, although usually I don't mind what traits a potential spouse has as long as they'll throw out pretty babies (who says I'm shallow?). Because of that, spouses often end up with Mid-Life Crisis.

I also like to give spares and their spouses Fertility Treatment before I kick them out of the house just to increase the odds of them having lots of kids (once I had a non-active couple who had seven children, and I don't even use story-progression mods. One died though, which left space for the seventh child to come into the household).

Finally, for any unemployed sim, they'll get the Collection Helper, Super Green Thumb, Extra Creative, Acclaimed Author or whatever they need to max their income. Adventurous sims get Prepared Traveller, the Rare Relic-Finder or whatever it’s called(sorry!)  and Steel Bladder  to help them in tombs. I try to steer clear of No Bills Ever and other money-saving ones because I don’t like my sims getting too rich for some reason, and once they’re where I want them to be I need as many money drains as I can get. I think that’s it, phew!

I love being called smart!  ;D. The discovery was actually a complete coincidence. I just had my sim invite her sister over, who turned out to be heavily pregnant. The sister went into labour, my sim drove her to hospital, and they all came out with the moodlet. It's come in pretty useful since. I'm getting the feeling Justine Keaton and Claire Ursine are suddenly going to make a whole lot of friends after this is posted.   :)

That is awesome Joria!  Thank you for doing that testing.

Just make sure to cancel the action as soon as they stick their spoon in the bowl. The first time I tried this I waited too long and the cook went ahead and put it in a pan and baked it.

I also always choose 'Store' as soon as the finished dish hits the counter or table. If you don't have the Super Fridge yet, or are not planning on getting it, this way you always have Perfect meals. I'm assuming you didn't get/use the replicator until your cook is always cooking Perfect quality meals. That way, I replicate the meal I want to serve, the Sims eat, and then I put the leftovers in my (Super) Fridge.

As for LTRs, I usually get Observant first, then I decide what to get them next based on their LTW and any skill related to that, like Super Green Thumb for cooks who garden or for Sims that are living with a Sim who cooks. I do the same thing if one of the Sims has The Perfect Aquarium LTW. Observant can let you know if someone is a Natural Cook which is handy in learning those recipes, particularly when you're playing a no travel Challenge or you have problems/bugs when you travel. I choose Faster Learning instead if the LTR points are slow in coming, but I always get it. That usually gives things enough of a boost (after I use it for a bit) so I can get the higher point LTW aids. After that, it's Steel Bladder and Dirt Defiant. No Bills may come before those if the bills are getting to be outrageous. Never Dull is also great for Sims pursuing Charisma, and fairly inexpensive, to boot. Long Distance Friend is good for any Sim that's pursuing Charisma, but when I get it depends on how much time the Sim has to socialize. And Meditative Trance Sleep is definitely in the range of the first few LTRs I get. Lately I've been trying Attractive to boost high Charisma Sims (the ones who are Friends as soon as they meet someone) even more. I haven't given the Charismatic Trait to a Sim since I've been using the combo of Observant, Attractive, Never Dull, and Long Distance Friend, though it's probably slower going at the earlier levels of Charisma.

I've also been trying Multitasker. I've yet to try Hardly Hungry because you lose the mood boost you get from a home-cooked meal, but I may try it with Sims that seem to be elated almost all the time anyway. Collector varies in importance depending on the Sims' LTW or if they've completed it and have free time. Carefree is on the list, but I've not made it a high-priorty LTR to get.

Finally, The Teleportation Pad is something I usually only get when I've gotten everything but a few lower cost LTRs that might be useful. If you get the TelePad, it's important to have a Sim with 10 or close to it in Handiness. If they don't have the Handy Trait or they're not near the top of the skill, save before you try to fix it or call the Repair Sim! I'd only used it twice when it broke, though I don't know if that's typical since I've only gotten it in one game. I'm playing a game now where I'm using the Replicator (upgraded) for the first time and it's definitely a timesaver. But my cook is only a couple dishes away from meeting the 75 Perfect meals challenge now, which is supposed to lessen the amount of time it takes to cook, so I'll see if it's truly worth the Points (particularly if you have the Super Fridge) in time saved.

Edit: Forgot about Meditative Trance sleep, so I added it.

Edit 2: And I forgot Never Dull, so that got added.

LOL! I'm sure they will soon have new friends!   ;)  Coincidence or not, it's still a great tip. Kudos to you for discovering it!

Wonder if that will work out in real life to. Gonna ask my sister to spead up her relationship and create som cousins for me.

Yes it works in real life.  I have been at the delivery and/or in the hospital at the birth of all of my grandchildren and I leave with the best feeling ever after seeing that new baby (or babies when my daughter had twins).  That warm fuzzy feeling or 'high stays' with me for quite awhile!  ;D ;D

That's because Babies are so cool  ;), I got that moodlet in game once, this random woman went into labour while my sim was eating at the bistro, so to shut her up she took her to the hospital and came out with the moodlet.

Aaah, that's a nice post to read. I hope that when I am your age I will be still uh... 'optimal' (if I use the right word) and not old-fashioned like I think you are and seeing new generations and what the future holds.
Baby sims are a real handfull, in my opinion, but once they reach child age they are finally a bit more independent.
