Favorite Ways to Spend Your Happiness Points
« on: July 01, 2010, 10:11:41 PM »
Happiness. Sims want it, players grant it, heck some people compete in challenges for it!

Metro's posts have been opening my eyes to the Happiness game. But sometimes it's hard to know which LTRs are worth the trade, and which are not.

Which LTR's do you dive straight for, and which ones have disappointed you?

The first one I choose is always Steel Bladder. I love the Collection Helper. I was disappointed by Meditative Trance.

I use to go for observant, but, I have kind of changed directions.  I am like you, I go for steel bladder and dirt defiant and then go for the job related points.  I like the fact you can make extra money or move up the ladder faster.

It really depends on the focus on my Sim as to what rewards I'll choose. A punch-the-clock career Sim will always get Multi-Tasker first. If I know that an extended vacation would benefit my Sim the most in early development (week 1), then Jet Setter will be 1st. For a painter I'd save up for Super Creative because of the impact of that reward on painting values. Going to the bathroom is a slight time waster, but I'll always grab other things before Steel Bladder. I'll typically grab things like Steel Bladder, Hardly Hungry and Dirt Defiant after the LTW is in the bag and I'm looking at 30-40k extra points. For round-the-clock Sims that I grind (typically self-employed Sims), then Meditative Trance Sleep is fantastic because it translates to working more hours since they're not in the sack as much.

I tend to play a lot of self employed sims and collecting usually plays a big part, so the collection helper is usually what I aim for first, then other ones like no bills, steel bladder. I do agree with Metro though, it really depends on the sim involved and what would be best for them.

I like the collection helper too.  You're right, the Jet Setter is a must if they travel and in combination with the steel bladder and the other ones, it is good.  Everyone chooses different ways for different plays, hey, I rhymed, lol, but it is true.

I almost always get Observant first.  Next is usually Steel Bladder.  After that, it depends on what the Sim is doing.  I like the Meditative Trance Sleep a lot, too.  Even if it's not a self-employed Sim, it's always good to have extra awake hours in the day.

I like Mood Manager for my solo sim who is my primary travel sim. I use her so I can discover content in WA, and I've still got a lot to see. I hate dungeon diving with sleep, hunger, bladder, loneliness issues.

I've tried using MM with one spouse of a married couple, but it's more of a hassle to keep 2 sims' moods managed, and it's less fun to play.

So I vote MM only with solo sims.

If I get to the point in a game where I want to control their moods and needs like that, I just turn on testingcheats and manage everything from there.  Same with teleporting.  Most of the time they get around the old fashioned way, but sometimes I like to teleport when collecting.  I don't bother buying the actual teleporter.  I seldom buy the body shaper thing, either.

I have only got the body shaper once, that was enough.  There are better things to spend that kind of points on, but, I wanted to try it.

As others have said, it depends on what I'm playing with my sim. Normally I'd go for multi-tasker and the one that makes you learn skills faster (sorry, I have a bad memory for names). I've recently discovered observant and I really like it, more for my benefit than my sim. Mainly for sussing out potential husbands/wives! Never tried body sculptor. I like the steel bladder, and meditative trance. I've had the dirt defiant once but was a bit disappointed by it. Didn't see much of a change. Now I don't bother and carry the Shower in a Can with me everywhere (I mean my sim does the carrying :D).

As others have said, I try to choose the LTRs that I think will most benefit my sim, depending on what I'm doing with them.  If there aren't any other obvious first choices, I usually go for Steel Bladder first.  It isn't just the time spent using the toilet, it's all the time spent cleaning and unclogging the thing.  Also, if my sims don't need it anymore I can sell it and use the money elsewhere.

One of my favourite LTRs, but obviously not one of the first, is the food replicator.  Instant high-quality meals - I love it!  Now if there was only one I could buy in real life ...  :)

I used to head straight for steel bladder at the start of collecting LTR but lately I've been having a bit of nostalgia, when we didn't have steel bladder.  I think the most important thing first is no bills ever as I seldom cheat for sims money, they must earn it.  Then usually it's the observant, especially for my decorators and stylists.  I recently have discovered the food replicator...what a time-saver! ;D  Unfortunately, it's very expensive and takes awhile to gather enough points. ::)

I'd like to know more about the food replicator.

The food replicator costs 50,000 points.  Your sims can store 3 types of food in it.  The food replicator will store 10 copies of whatever the food is, or 20 copies if it's upgraded by a handy sim.  The food is exactly the same quality as whatever was stored, so if you have a good cook, your sims can have perfect food without cooking.  If you store meals instead of single servings and then keep the leftovers in the fridge, the replicator will feed your sims for a long time.  The only thing that can't be stored is Ambrosia.  Does this answer your questions?

ps, I forgot to mention one of the benefits of the replicator:  free food!  No more expensive lobster thermidor.

So after the sims eat the 10 or 20 copies, it's no longer usable?
