Special Opportunities and Events
« on: July 01, 2010, 05:11:34 PM »
One topic I haven't really touched on are the special opportunities and events that come up in town. They are kind of rare, and I'd like to offer this thread as a place to post about them. Here are a few that come to mind, although I need details on each of them: eating contest, olympic competition, and chess tournament. I'd like to gather intel on these with your help and make it all into a nice page with descriptions of the events, how you can help your Sim to win the competition, and just what rewards and moodlets a Sim receives for being a winner.

For those who care to share info, just whip out notepad if your Sim participates in one and let us know about it!

Pam posted a great example of format below

Grill-A-Thon: Participate at Central Park and the beach in Sunset Valley.  Grill 5 meals before the time is up.  Reward is $1,000.  Best to get there early and try to hog one of the grills by queueing all 5 meals at once.  It ends around 8:00, but I'm not certain.  Only for those with cooking skill.

I rarely do these lousy special opportunities, especially after I tried and tried again to complete the Chess Tournament... which requires you to win three chess games before time runs out and it goes from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. :(

I did win a Grill-A-Thon, but meh, five wasted hot dog meals for a measly grand? *thumbs down*

The eating contest and amateur olympics, same thing. I can make a ton more money sculpting than doing these. Ignore.

Still, for those who are starting out and lawn living, every little bit helps...

This thread isn't really for sharing opinions about the various opportunities.  The intent here is to gather specific information on exactly what each of the opportunities entail and what the reward is.

It does, but I don't think we will have a list of all opportunities on the guide. This has been here a year and we've had little interest in it. That doesn't bother me because if there was high demand for this kind of thing it probably would have come to us by now :D

Well I guess there is! If folks start submitting them, I will match them and gather some of my own.

Best in Show Competition: Bring your favorite cat or dog to the stadium of your town to possibly win a cash prize.   Grand Prize is $2500.  The competition runs from 9 am to 8 pm and it takes several hours to complete for your sim.  The animal chosen to be taken to the stadium only has to be at the stadium when the Sim goes in but is allowed to run around or run home once the Sim is inside for this opportunity.

Like that?

I am not sure that it is a good idea to go to in depth with opportunities right now while the 4 x4 golden opportunity challenge is running.
Perhaps after that event finishes people can share some information about different opps. I would say that would be when people might have an interest in sharing and learning about opps.

I get it. I kind of hate releasing something when they are right in the middle of a tourney (only if it deals with that gameplay element). Some folks could get some information that is helpful to them, while others have already finished. Maybe some of those players will provide something for the list when the event has concluded.

I don't think that any of these have a high enough reward that anyone would use them in the challenge.

Be that as it may, it's probably still a good idea to simply not discuss them until the Challenge concludes.  Just my opinion.
