Perfect Traits?
« on: January 03, 2013, 02:55:08 PM »
When you make a new sim, do you give him/her only good traits or do you make it more realistic and play around with a mix of good and bad?

My sims are about as imperfect as they come. My dynasty founder is neurotic and grumpy, and I plan for him to be the best of the bunch.

I understand why people like to play well-behaved sims, but oh how the bad ones are so much more fun. ;D

I play around with a mix of good and bad, but some "good" traits are bad to me. For example, the Diva trait. If I met someone in real life who acted like a diva sim does, I'd avoid that person like a plague.
The outside is quiet, but the inside is on full blast.

I just got back into the sims but I have made two brothers that have the diva trait then all others are positive and its a lot of fun to see them interact, before I had just the base game a few years ago I made a sim that was flirty and commitment issues that was fun to watch. I don't like to totally bomb a sim out but I find adding 1-2 negative/interesting traits with 3 or more positive ones makes sims that are fun to play and watch, nothing like a sim getting a wish to be in a relationship with someone then right after there in a relationship with them they get a wish to break up lol.

I give mine good traits most of the time, but this thread has got me thinking-- why is it that I hardly ever give them bad ones? I can't believe I've never even played a grumpy sim before!

I have never done a grumpy sim either may try one with the next child on my legacy. Childish is also a funny trait to give a sim.

Depends what I'm doing. With dynasties I go for traits that are useful to the sim - so even though Neurotic has its downsides it gets used. And Evil gets used a lot as well because Evil sims are awesome.

With my legacies, if I go random traits I'll inevitably end up with some bad ones. I currently have to battle with an Evil Grumpy Coward Animal Lover (yep. Hates everything but loves little fluffy kittens), and it's amusing. :P

I think the Goths have grumpy traits, if you wanted to experiment.  Personally, I don't think grumpy is as bad (good? interesting?) as evil or mean spirited.  Jared Frio always has tons of enemies in my games, because he's mean-spirited.  Unless it's a townie that I play with, I never give Sims negative traits.  I should though - it may make it interesting  :)

I used to always make my Sims neat, but having a maid is more convenient, and when they're desperate to go to the loo and they can't because it's filthy, that's a bit annoying.  Social butterfly (Showtime) is interesting, because they need a lot of social contact.

There are some that are really pointless, though, that I hardly ever use - vehicle enthusiast, for example, which I only use if I can't think of anything else.  Or Loves the Heat/Cold (seasons) because I find that it takes a while for sims to be affected by the seasons.

My Sims always have traits relevant to their Lifetime wish. If there aren't any left relevant to their lifetime wish left, I give them traits such as friendly, cat person etc.

I'm rubbish at choosing traits so I just randomize them and select lifetime wishes and skills around them. If I have twins or more than one bookshop nooboo (sigh, autocorrect) born around the same time I like to make them as different as possible just for laughs  :D

Depends of what kind of sim you want to make.

A sim thet had good traits connected with skill for job?
A nice goody two shoes sim?
An evil greedy sim?
An oblivious & childish sim?

each will need different traits to pull.

Or sometimes just push the randomized button and see what the game would give you. ;D

I give them four good traits and one that is not so good.
No sense of humor can be very funny. I don't give the loser or evil trait. ;)
Never nude don't have any use lol. Mean spirited sims can be fun to play, they can even be good.

I usually have a 'planned' approach to creating my sims (yeah, I'll say that even though all the sims I have created till date have gone to the trash can), so I usually give them traits similar to the job I want them to do.
I don't plan to try out any 'bad' traits until I am well settled with the game.

CAS'd Sims rarely get 'negative' traits unless they fit a particular concept. For those who actually "earn" their traits in-game, I will usually manually chose 2 to 4 of their traits according to what I expect to have them do and go random for the others. And then some of my Sims, I just go pure random.
