Recieved huge amount of simoleons - why? 85 000

Tonight, after my sim couple fell asleep, they recieved about 85 000 in simoleons - it was added to the family fund. But I didn't get a message about where the money came from, I hadn't used any cheats. The guy is in the athletic career, and the girl is in science career - both somewhere around level 5.

Has this happened to anyone else? I've never seen this happen before. Any idea why I got it?

Never had that happen. Must be the "Tooth Fairy"! LOL!

There is a random glitch in the game since Late Night (I think) where your Sims will randomly get an amount of money  at any time during the day.  It is always the same amount of money as a car that can be bought in Buy mode.  Check buy mode and if there is a car that can be bought for §85,000 then you know it's this harmless and awesome glitch.

I wouldn't be complaining It happens to me a lot, and it is most welcome. However, it's not $85,000 in my case, it's more like $1000 every now and again.

Ricalynn, I think you're right! I play two pre-made sims, and one is usually a two star celebrity from start, but I turned off the celebrity option. So maybe instead of getting celebrity gifts, he instead gets money? I think there is a special car that only celebrities get (or maybe it is that they get the most expensive car, I don't remember).

I'm not really complaining, it's just that I had just started a new game in a little starter home and wanted them to work their way up in society, so this felt like cheating!

I got 22 000 something once. This would explain it. Its a pretty cool glitch

I'm sure you could buy something really expensive to use up the money, leave it in your family inventory and then ignore it.  Then you are back to square one despite gifts from the unknown.  (Maybe it was a long lost aunt who died and left your Sim with an inheritance?  )

I know And I understand your plight; it happens to me so often I gave up trying to start with nothing, apart from my legacy.

its never happened in my game but my wife got 18,000 once for no reason.

I've had this happen twice, in two different save files.  I think it was about 20,000 both times.

It occurs when a dying sim sells the vehicle in their inventory :  Instead of the dying sim receiving the money, the money goes to the active family instead.

You are correct, it is a very old EA error.

I didn't know that inactive households could sell their inventories (but then again, I never switch households). Good to know, thanks.

Under EA Standard, the sale is related solely to cars, and only at the time of death.  Everything else simply gets destroyed out of their inventories to conserve space.
