In my case, the stuff packs have been half the price of the expansion packs.  For my $20, I feel I get a lot more than I could get by spending $20 at the Store.  They don't bother me.  It's not realistic to think EA is going to release absolutely everything with the initial release.  It would be short lived if that were the case.  This is my first experience with anything Sims and I plan to buy every EP and SP that comes out.  ;D

I agree with you, Pam.
Besides that, if the Sims 3 came already with all the expansions and stuff all at once, then I think in the long term the game will get boring because there will not be anything refreshing and new, like what they do now.
Okay, it would absolutely be awesome in the beginning and I probably would play it around the clock (or just 20/7 in case I decide to sleep), but after some time in a rehab clinic without any new expansion or stuff pack to look forward to, I would probably find another hobby.
So the expansions are good, in my opinion. It is the only way (at the moment) to let games be interesting in the long, very long run.
Besides MMORG's of course.

This stuff pack looks pretty neat, yay, new cars.  Everytime a stuff pack comes out, I always have a fight with my other self about buying it.  I always win and buy it anyway.  I say I won't buy it, but guess what.  I am right there at the store on the release date, so needless to say, I have and will have all SP and EP, lol.

Ever since the sims 1, eps and sps have been alternatively released.  I think of a sp as a little holdover until they release an ep where you get the major change in gameplay.  When the sims 2 wound up with Mansions and Gardens, it was the first time a sp was that large. :o

Since the sims first started the packs have been released on a 6 month schedule and I would imagine with the sims 3 they will continue to do this.

I'm not too sure about the Fast Lane Stuff yet.  I'll need to see more screenshots.  I'll definitely buy it, like I've done for 10 years, ::) I'm just not sure about it yet. :D

It's always been, eps $40 and sps $20.  Name me anything else in this world that has remained the same price for 10 years. :P

I don't think there were any SPs for Sims 1.  I can only think of the base game and the 7 EPs (House Party, Livin' Large, Hot Date, Vacation, Unleashed, Superstar, and Makin' Magic).

There were official free downloads for TS1.  Back then EA/Maxis didn't charge simmers for objects, they gave them to us as freebies.

I honestly think there isn't enough in the SPs to charge a whole 20$ for, but I guess that's just me. This one looks a little better than High-End Loft, though.

I'll buy it just for the record (and the cars  :)).
If you have the money, why not?

Personally I think EA have it about right with EPs and SPs ... as several folks have said, it stops the game from becoming boring.  And the overall Sims entertainment value, measured in "Fun Time" per £/$, is exceptional IMO.

Not sure I'm going to move my ecologically sound family from by the beach so that they can have room for fast cars, though.  The Kenspas suit them fine, and there's good fishing right across the street ... for food, and fertiliser for their intensive Urban Farming activity.  ;D

Very true! But at the same time I have never seen the price drop either. Not that I am complaining. I have never seen a sale or anything on them but on the other hand EA does let you use a coupon when you buy even if it is a pre-order and in my experience that is rare alone. With most of the top selling game places will exclude them from the coupons. Also EA's price on their website is the same as in the stores which is also pretty rare in my experience so I would say you win some you lose some but all in all EA is doing a fine job. And some things EA still does give out free on their site, just not everything as in my opinion is smart. Why give it free when people will pay for it? Beside the more they make the better they can make the Expansions! Just my opinion though!

To me, the good thing about stuff packs is that we don't have to buy them.  If it's stuff I want I'll get it; if not, I won't be missing out on any new game features.  It's a way for us to achieve the kind of look we want in our game, and as far as I am concerned, the more variety the better.  I completely agree with Slingsby:  when you think about all the time I spend playing Sims 3, even if I bought everything, it's still pennies per hour - a pretty good deal for entertainment.

I got Ambitions for half price through a special pre-order.  So, it does happen, but not very often.

I think this might be the first stuff pack I will have ever purchased for The Sims, it looks much better than their usual faire!

I pretty much agree with everything Joria said.  I understand spending money for new content, I'm not so sure about spending it for new decor.

That is what I meant that EA does let you do that when other companies normally do not. I also paid less then half price for it too through a pre-order sale.

Another idea for those who haven't signed up for it yet, register on ea.com and they'll send you a coupon on your birthday.
