The Tale of the House of White--Official Hiatus
« on: December 29, 2012, 11:43:25 PM »
Hello, and welcome to House of White! This is my second story thread, so I'm obviously an expert by now (Not!). I am still learning, but I hope this will be as good as or better than the Callahan Dynasty. I'm trying out a bit of a different style in the storytelling. We'll see how it turns out!

Many of the characters in this story will be based on characters created by Gail Carson Levine in her wonderful series The Princess Tales. I highly recommend anything by Levine, but the Princess Tales in particular are all quick, fun reads. They, like many of her stories, are in the fractured fairy tale genre. That is to say, they are retellings of the fairy tales we know and love. I love fractured fairy tales; I find they often fill in gaps in the original story. So, while it is not necessary to read The Princess Tales to understand or enjoy this story, I think you will find that doing so will enrich your enjoyment of the story.

Since there are only six Princess Tales, I had to fill in some of the spaces with other fairy tale princesses. I'm sure you'll be able to spot those right away!

Edit: I've been playing this dynasty for a very long time. I've restarted so many times I've lost count. I really feel this is the one to make it though! Wish me luck!

Disclaimer: The characters I use in this story were created either by Disney, Gail Carson Levine, or the Grimm Brothers. I just based my Sims off them.

Chapter One

Once upon a time, there were a young king and queen who loved each other very much.

But their joy in each other was incomplete. The young queen would sit for hours, staring out at the snow and dreaming of a snow-white child of her very own.

She learned to fill the void in her heart by working in her garden.

She had a beautiful garden, full of all manner of beautiful, wonderful plants, some mere fruits, others more magical.

Then, one day, she gave her husband the king the joyful news.

The king too was overjoyed, for he loved children very much and yearned for their own to share and raise in love together.

The queen’s whole aspect was changed. Now, when she sat staring out the window, she smiled, thinking of the beautiful child that would soon come to her.

Soon, she knew the time had come.

The king was summoned, although of course not allowed to watch the birth.

The queen bore the pains of birth bravely,

and then—

A daughter was born!

The queen presented their daughter to the king.

The king took his new daughter in his arms and held her close.

As he laid the babe in her cradle, the king said to the queen,

We shall call her Snow White, for she was born from the snow-dreams of my queen.

What a cool concept! I love how you're using Gail Carson Levine, since I'm a huge fan of her books!

How cool! You'll really get all the little references, then! Have you read that specific series?

I don't think I've read that specific series, but I've read "The Fairy Returns," "Ella Enchanted," and a few of her other books.

This made me smile. I actually have picked out all my heirs already, and none of them are from that story. I would tell you who they will be but I don't want to spoil the surprise. I will tell you that six are the main characters from The Fairy's Mistake, The Princess Test, Princess Sonora and the Long Sleep, Cinderellis and the Glass Hill, For Biddle's Sake, and The Fairy's Return. And the two others are Disney princesses. You know one already. The other will be generation 6 so you have to wait awhile for her.

Love it! Can't wait to see more about Snow White. Good luck in your dynasty.  :)

You will in just a minute! Lucky you! :D And thank you, considering how many times I played just the first generation I am going to need that luck to get all the way through. Eight generations is a lot!

I love fairy tales, can't wait to read more! ;D

Me too! Fairy tales are my favourite.

I don't think I've read that specific series, but I've read "The Fairy Returns," "Ella Enchanted," and a few of her other books.

Ella Enchanted is my favourite book. Actually, The Fairy's Return is the last book in the Princess Tales series! So you have read at least one of that series already.

I am so excited to see so many readers so soon! I hope I will not disappoint you. Here is the next chapter.

Chapter Two

Sadly, the king’s fond dreams were not to be. After the birth of the new princess, the queen fell terribly ill.

The queen clung desperately to life for the sake of her child.

She knew, however, that it was a losing battle. She had to struggle not to cry over the tiny baby she knew she would have to leave.

The queen managed to hold on for a whole year, until Snow White’s first birthday.

The king, knowing that his daughter would face growing up without her mother, was torn—he didn’t know whether to cheer or to cry.

The princess had become even more beautiful—she looked, the king thought, just like her mother.

That night the king sat by his wife’s bedside. The queen smiled, at peace, and happy about her daughter’s wonderful first year. The king was not so serene, and was so heart-sore that he could not even look at her.

No, he said, This cannot be the path our lives will take. I refuse to accept it.
The queen only smiled, knowing that her king was good and brave but that even he could not stop dying.

But nothing could stop the king. He rushed right out into the snow, without even putting on his furs.

The king travelled far—so far that when he finally found what he was looking for, the snow had melted and it was raining.
Rather, when he found whom he was looking for.

The king, like all wise royals, had a healthy respect for fairies, especially fairies of whom he wished to ask a favour. He knew that her power exceeded his own, and he spoke to her accordingly.
Mistress, I desire of you a boon. It is my wife, the queen. She is deathly ill and I fear she may leave me and our daughter for the world beyond before it is her time.

You speak well, King. Go on.
Please, I implore you, Mistress. Save my dear queen! I fear I may die without her.

The fairy thought.
I cannot save her, for you are wrong—she is not leaving before her time. It is her time, and even fairies cannot stop it. Go, your Majesty. There is nothing I can do for you.

The king returned home with a heavy heart. He did not know how to tell her beloved wife that he could do nothing, nothing, to save her.

My love, he said. I am--so sorry. I went to the fairies, and even they cannot help us.
The queen had a moment in which she realised the full gravity of what was going to happen. Her condition was deteriorating quickly; she would not last much longer.

The king and queen and the young princess sat together in the quiet night, just being together while they could.

I think more dynasty back-stories need cute toddlers like Snow White. I just have my plain adults. :P

I'm really liking this so far!
