No no, Sims 2 pets had five personality traits: intelligence, activeness, friendliness, agression, and cleanliness, with a score of one to three. If you went with the cheaper feeding dishes only an animal with the lowest cleanliness would interact with it.
Granted and in an attempt to steer back to Sims 3, I didn't like that either and hope they don't include it in the next pets.
I don't like limitations on my aesthetic choices. It just didn't look right when your country bumpkin was feeding his ol' mutt from a silver dish while he rests in his k9 mini-condo!
