I would have added some feature to the photography aspect that allows you to choose the subject of the photo (example: your two friends are having a romantic moment at night in Egypt, the photo tag would let you choose whether you are capturing "Two of my Friends", "Lovers in Egypt", or "Lovers at Night", instead of always defaulting straight to "Two of my Friends"   :( )

What would you like to see as a new skill or expansion pack in the future?

What would you like to see as a new skill or expansion pack in the future?

I was thinking about what I would like to see in the future and what it might lead to and how the skills would enhance the game.
I would like to see my Sims learn to knit as a skill. The clothes they make could be sold in the shop and they could teach each other as well. Knitting is a very varied skill, they could start off with a simple scarf, then go on to socks and knitted lace, fair isle and intarsia.

I would also like to see them have a potters wheel and make clay pots, which they could decorate (good for artists).

As an expansion pack I would like to have a farm with crops and animals. This could link in well with the gardening skill. Crops could be sown in the correct season and the phases of the moon. We could also have a new job being a vet and they could look after the animals.

How about starting religions? The more people who worship your Sim the higher up they go. I think it would be a case of anything goes here.

Do the creators of the Sims read this forum?

I would be really interested to see what you can all think of and how far it can be expanded.

I would definitely like a Skill that would allow making of soft furnishings, curtains and so forth, but also sofas and beds and things, basically the furniture you can't make with sculpting (at least I don't think you can make those with sculpting). I dream of having a house entirely built by the Sims that live there.

I'm sure they'll add pets of some kind at some point, but when they do I'd like them to add the ability to make monstrous insects via transmutation, ie combine eight beetles into one huge beetle that you can take for walks and stuff.

I'd also really like them to add the ability to have your kid have a paper round, also I'd like them to add baby sitter, repairman, pizza deliverer, maid etc as playable careers / professions. Couple of reasons, one it just feels strange that there's these jobs that exist that your Sim can't try and do (I mean is there some kind of really strict union that only allows Sims with no home or relatives to join?) and secondly it irks me that if you marry the maid he or she automatically gives up their job (by the way has anyone married an npc fireman since ambitions, did they remain a fireman?).

I'd also like favorites to be listed on the friends / acquaintances tab, currently if you do the 'get to know' interaction one of the things you may find out is their favorite colour, but only if you, the player, are watching for the bubble above their head as they talk, and then you would have to physically make a note of it somewhere because the game doesn't record it (on a not entirely unrelated note, why does a pop-up appear telling you the sex of the future baby if you're playing the doctor but not if you're playing the mother who has asked the doctor? Sure you can watch for the little blue or pink thought bubble, but that's not always convenient).

That's all I can think of right now.

I can't think of anything right now except I'd like to see the teaching career change from being a rabbit hole career to an interactive one. It would be great to teach the kids in your town. You could have interactions like give homework, prepare for tests or deal with angry parent. You could even have events such a playground fight where you have to run out and stop it. Bonuses could include better coffee in the staffroom!

Yeah didn't think about that purplepanther but that is a good point. And that can get really annoying and make it hard to complete the photography challenge where you have to complete 5 sets! Maybe they will fix that in a patch or something.

@beanutz: First, welcome to the forum. And second, I like the idea of having a pet farm. I was waiting for it since some German guys decided to make a fake expansion to fool everyone on april 4.
Or how about a zoo? Problem is: no lot would be big enouth. Unless you could build the cages on the lot and the rest will be build around it.
Religion you can forget I think. EA will like this game to be atractive for anyone, so if you are christan, muslim or even a darwinist, religion will not be apreciated I think. But who knows: maybe I am wrong.

@wildredchild: is that picture on your avatar really you? If so, I can only say: 'WOW!!!!' and after that I will be speachless.

@ Leto, no that is not me.  I had a picture of one of my Labrador Retrievers as my avatar before the last server move and just used one of the avatars that the software for our forum has.

Back on topic.  I am patiently awaiting a Pets expansion.

I would love for them to add auto-save! Every 10 minutes it saves it, that would be awesome! Before anyone asks, yes there are game companies that do that! Last Day of Work is the one I'm thinking of right now, and it is such an awesome feature! (If I'm not supposed to mention another game company, I'm sorry please remove it!)

Autosave would be nice but you should be able to select if you want to use it or not and how often you want it to save and what file too and such. I know many people save to different files each time for crashing reasons so to have more of an ability to choose might help them.

That's true too! I just took a couple to Egypt, and right before I left I saved, than while I was there I saved under a different name in case I got a bug! So maybe it wouldn't work for games like this!

Yes... Autosave would be great...

I've lost sooooo much due to sparse saving. Manual saving is very irritating to do on a frequent basis...

For some odd reason there is a "lethal" bug out there that prevents you to save, and freezes up the game!

A little off topic - I've encountered many major bugs in the game that destroy your gameplay...

Invisible Sims, Ghost glitches, save bug...

I'm always quite amazed when I go onto Sims3's YouTube Channel for instance, and there are like hundreds of thousands of:
Can you make a Sims 3 seasons?
Can you make a Sims 3 pets?
It would be really cool if you made a Sims 3 Nightlife.

But yeah, I think they really should include animals and weather in some expansions. It would be awesome if they put the two together in one expansion pack.
Also, I wish there were boats you could take out on bodies of water and fish or just hang out on.

I might actually suggest that to my friend at EA....

Yes boats would be neat too. And being able to swim in the ocean which I am sure that someone else suggested already. I know someone suggested being able to surf and all that fun water stuff but I don't remember if it was in this thread or not. I would like to also see Sims with roller blades as another way to get around. I know that is old but it was big when I was a kid. I think now it is more electric scooters and such.

I'm guessing the reason they didn't include autosaving is because (if your household is really big) it can take a long time to save the game and it would be extremely annoying if the game suddenly stopped to save itself unexpectedly.  Most games that use autosaving are divided up into sections or levels, so it makes perfect sense to save the game at the end of each section.

As for future expansions, I'm going to guess they'll make an "outdoors" expansion pack that will include things like pets and weather (and maybe even boating, who knows...that would be a first).   It would make sense to put it all in the same EP and there's plenty of stuff they could put in a pack like that!

I'm sure any ideas that we think of have already been thought of by the people at EA.  Remember, this is a multi-million dollar franchise that's been around for a decade. :)
