Where do expansion pack downloads get saved?
« on: December 28, 2012, 06:55:21 PM »
This is the scenario: my kids have the sims 3 game, we have it installed on two different PC's, when I am using the main PC they take the CD and play it on the other. My daughter wanted the seasons expansion pack, so I bought the download version for them, and after I finally figured out how to download it via the origin app it would not install, said the sims install was corrupt and could not continue.

Now, I would like it installed on the other PC anyway, since that is the one they play it on the most, but I can't find the file it downloaded so I can take it to the other PC. The other PC is a slower wireless connection to the net, and I would like to avoid downloading it again of possible - first off, will it let me download again?

Is there a place where the file is downloaded to, so I can put it on a usb stick and try installing on the other computer?

Do I have to purchase another copy of Seasons for than pc, and re download it?

I am wishing now I would have ordered the disc.

thanks in advance..

On the PC it should be under C:/Program Files/Electronic Arts

For Origin it goes to C:/Program Files/Origin Games

Note: It's Program Files (x86) for my 64 bit system

I think the reason why it's showing up as corrupted might be because you didn't install the base game with Origin.

By the way, you can add any EA games, including Sims 3 games, you have to your Origin account by selecting the "Origin" option at the very top of Origin and then "Add Game...". From what I know, you can download the games you own as many times as you want. You also don't need to use a CD if you install through Origin.

Possible Solution:
If you have the downloaded expansion pack, you can go to Origin, click "Origin" (at the top of the window), select "Application settings" on the list, then find "Browse Game Installers" and see if you can install the expansion pack via the file(s) found there.

If the above works or doesn't give the option to choose the install location, try changing the install location in Origin to see if that's a way to install the expansion for future expansion/stuff packs bought through Origin.

In Origin, select "Origin" then "Application Settings" and in that window there should be an option to change the install location (under "Downloaded Games") and make it go to C:/Program Files/Electronic Arts instead.

If that doesn't work, I do not know of another way that would work besides reinstalling the base game into the Origin Games folder or downloading and reinstalling the Sims 3 base game via Origin.

Side note: I know installing expansion/stuff packs via CD (to the Program Files/Electronic Arts directory) works even though the Sims 3 base game is installed via Origin and is in the Origin directory.

Thanks & Thanks Ellenser & Pam

I eventually figured it out, on the PC I downloaded it too it was all under a folder called "the sims 3 seasons" under the C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts folder, so I copied the entire folder structure to my daughters PC and ran the install execuatable in the install folder, and despite the chat support person on EA telling me if I downloaded to one computer it would not work on another, it did. However I had to install origin and get the Sims install on that PC patched to the latest update first, then it went tickety boo.

Now I'm assuming it will work on the main PC as well, once I figure out the problem with the base game. On both PC's they were installed from the purchased CD, so tomorrow when I get time I'll log in with Origin again from this PC and see if I can get the patch to download & install

Maybe a bit unrelated. But I was just about to ask about this: I have installed the base game + Seasons EP, and I noticed they went into separate folders in Program Files 86x - just as you noted. However, it works (I run the game from the Origin), so that seems to be normal.
Now, if I install some other EP, either from CD or downolad it via Origin, is that going to make difference?
