Apologies for neglecting this story for so long.  I've been busy with other things, and the team members have also been busy elsewhere.  We do have a few more updates to the school assignments, and I'll have the first one of those updates posted shortly.

I've also been wondering if it might be just about time to wrap up this story.  I do have ideas for a few more story lines for Ben, but I've been wondering if maybe people have had enough of Ben Oliver's adventures.  At one point I had sort of thought that I'd consider ending the story when it reached 50,000 views.  Now that we've reached that point, do you think it's time for Ben's story to end?  I'd appreciate any thoughts you might have on it.

Spying Strong - The Assignment

A spy's life is dangerous.  Bad guys are after you!  You'll never defeat them if you're used to lounging on the couch and scarfing down deep-fried key lime pie.  In addition to the mental/emotional skills of observation, alertness and analysis, a spy must also be physically fit.  Fit to take down your opponents, and if there are too many of them to take down, fit to outrun them.

Assignment:  Work out until you are fatigued, using any training style available to you (don't break a sweat, etc.).  You may choose any form of workout, using any sort of equipment or just jogging.  Note the time you start exercising and then the time when you have to stop because of fatigue.  The time you were able to exercise before becoming fatigued is your score.

I have the approximate athletic ability of an eggplant. Gym class was by far my worst subject in school and I had to rely on my sister to protect me from the school bully (who was three years younger than me...and yes, it was embarrassing.)

So naturally, when I was given this assignment, I was more than a little nervous. There is almost no way that I would be able to fight off an attacker with my stature, so logically outrunning them would be my only option. I headed to the local gym shortly after midnight to try my luck with the treadmill. At least at that time of the day there wouldn't be as many people around to watch me make an absolute fool of myself.

Still...I had a terrible sense of foreboding; this was not going to end well.



This was not my first mishap of the morning, and by far not the last. I think I might have twisted my wrist during one of the falls.

I worked out for as long as I could manage, until my legs felt like little more than limp noodles and I could barely step off of the treadmill. Three hours and eight minutes. Not exactly the most stellar performance, but I suppose it could be worse.



While at this stage of the game I have my doubts as to whether my legs could carry me to safety, I do feel somewhat stronger than before. Maybe if it's a short distance, or maybe if the attacker is a bit on the chubby side...?

One thing is for absolute certain: I desperately needed a shower.

Hey, sometimes the best course of action is to run away. Not particularly heroic, perhaps, but it works! 

I certainly am not tired of Ben's story and his antics, but if you feel that you want to end this story, all the power to you.

I don't think I'm really tired of the story yet, but there don't seem to be very many comments lately which makes me think maybe other people have had enough of it.

Aww, thanks, Sherry.  I appreciate the feedback and the interest in the story.  I think I got out of the habit of working on this story when my computer was having its extended vacation in the shop all summer, and since then the THBL team have been doing all the updates, so probably I've just gotten stuck in a rut here.  But now that winter's coming on, I'll have more time for story-telling, and Ben has adventures just waiting to happen.  So if people are still interested, Ben will soon be going adventuring again.

I agree with Audren, comments stop appearing when there is no more updates. And when there is an update, all comments will come. And I think the Ben Oliver should continue. It is the best story I have read besides Pam's Dreamweaver Immortal dynasty. Please don't stop it, now.

It has been rather enjoyable to read of Ben's misadventures. He is such a fun character! I for one would be thrilled to read more, if you are willing to continue.

The decision of when to stop a story is entirely up to the writer. I support more of Ben's adventures for as long as he has something that interests you to write about. I'm always up for reading more of his story.

As for 50,000 views, don't see it as a point to stop at. See it as an excellent milestone.

Thanks for the comments, chetan, Raia & Trip.  I have to admit, Ben is a favourite of mine.  At one point, I thought Ben might continue adventuring until Sims 4 comes out - but that was before we found out that Sims 4 won't be released until about a year from now.  Which seems a long time for a "miscellaneous story" to keep running.  So, no long-term plans, but for now I think we'll carry on, and I hope you'll accompany Ben & me on the journey.  I've just been working on the beginning of his next adventure ...
