Oh my goodness, this is where Hazel went! This is so exciiiiiting!

(P.S. I should probably mention that I have been a silent reader for quite a long time. Ben makes me laugh in every update!)

So I guess that answers your questions! ;D I am thrilled to be working with Schipperke again, and having Hazel at Ben Oliver's school has me tickled pink. Ben made me laugh a lot in this update, especially when the tables turned as soon as he found out the student was female! I look forward to seeing his reaction to Hazel. I do hope he likes her :))

I'm sure Ben will behave like a perfect gentleman.  After all, he's the instructor here, in a position of authority and responsibility.  Besides, now that dear old Dad has gotten involved, we wouldn't want reports of Ben's inappropriate behaviour getting back to Mr Payne, now would we?

Of course, if any of the female students were to take it upon themselves to be extra-nice to the instructor in hopes of a higher grade, well, Ben could hardly be blamed for that, could he?  ;)

He has sort of a weird idea of flirting. If he offers to share his theories with Hazel.. she should run very far  ::)

Re: The Name's Oliver - Ben Oliver. Ch. 116: Assignment #1 - Albus
« Reply #1272 on: August 21, 2013, 09:01:47 PM »
ORIENTATION TO NEW SURROUNDINGS

A spy's life is one of intrigue and subterfuge.  Danger can strike at any time.  It is crucial for the spy to be aware of his/her surroundings at all times.  Know where large groups of people congregate, find the places where a quiet conversation won't be overheard, identify possible threats and potential allies.  Rule #4 in "The Ten Rules" - "Develop assessment skills by practicing even in circumstances in which you are merely a bystander." (From the Handbook of Practical Spying)

You've just arrived in Sunset Valley.  It's Sunday morning and classes don't start until tomorrow.  Perhaps you've been looking forward to a relaxing day of settling in to your new home, watching a bit of tv?  Think again, spy.  Your first assignment is to learn your way around your new town.  See if you can identify a good place for a quiet rendezvous with a fellow spy.  Observe the citizens of the town, and try to develop your assessment skills.  Who might be an enemy spy?  Is anyone behaving suspiciously?  In an emergency, is there anyone you might be able to count on for back-up?  Where is the most likely place to go to gather information?  See what you can learn about your new town.  Try to see the town as the experienced spy you are hoping to become.

TEAM ALBUS

1.  Coline & Handler Danielle Haydis:

Report:
I wasn't sure how to approach the assignment but I gave it my best shot. It said to familiarize yourself to your surroundings, so I spent most of the day wandering around Sunset Valley. I visited the park,

the library,

the gym,

and even the graveyard.

Most of the residents of SV seem so nice, with the exception of the couple I met in the gym. They give me bad vibes. Some of them seem a bit grumpy though.

A quiet place to meet up would be the graveyard. Not a living soul can be seen there.
The best place to blend in the crowd would be in front of the theater. There always seems to be crowd there.

Instructor's Comments:  Coline managed to cover quite a lot of Sunset Valley.  The knowledge she's gained about the town will help her in future assignments.  The book she's pretending to read makes excellent cover for observing people without arousing suspicion.

2.  Ezagutza & Handler Wiry:

Ah, the library, what better place to learn the character of a town than their library.

Personally, the whole town is a little bit suspicious, Sunset Valley has well over 100 people, and barely fifteen were in the library on a Sunday morning. This one lady struck me as suspicious however, she wasn't reading anything, wasn't looking for a book, just standing there. I started up a conversation.

"What's your name?"
"Judy Bunch."
"Looking to learn something new today?"
'No. I'm just here 'cuz my family wanted me to come along."
"Your family?"
"Yep, they wanted to read something and I don't keep many books."
" Oh, I see. Hey, what's your favorite color?"
"Look man, I don't care to tell you, it doesn't matter."
*Privately*  Oh we'll see about that, Mrs. Bunch.
"No, it certainly does matter. Tell me, go on. I'd love to know.
"Fine, Spiceberry. Happy?"
"Very. Now tell me where you work."
"I'm a scientist, but I really don't care for learning, I prefer to garden and tinker. Oops, looks like the kids wanna go home!""

See, isn't that suspicious? Who doesn't love to learn?! The enemy!

This girl was different, I could see in her eyes that familiar spark of a knowledge hungry person.
Her name was Ayesha Ansari.

Turns out she works as a criminal, but that really doesn't matter. She loves to learn, and we talked and talked for hours until she had to go sleep for work later.

I browsed the town archives for as long as it took me to read them and memorize them. Time really doesn't matter when one is learning.

My lucky day, as I was walking to the science centre, I met another one I could recognize as a genius. He went by his online handle, Cycl0n3 Sw0rd, and he also loved to learn. His particular bias was computers, and I could see he knew almost everything about them. I like a fellow who isn't afraid to get a little dirty to learn more. His unkempt hair and uncared for clothes were a good sign of this.

I talked to Mr. Cycl0n3 Sw0rd until I learned everything about him, and then I was off to tour the Science Centre to close my day out. The Tour was led by a strange red-haired fellow fixated on being a highly desirable spouse. I didn't like him, Mr. Chris Steel was a lackey, he'd prefer to fish forever, he was just in there for the job. I learned about all the research they had going on, I was let into all of their locked rooms, I REALLY do not like locked doors, they mean knowledge is hiding from me.

I spent about twelve hours out and about before I went home to learn more.

Instructor's Comments:  Ezagutza is clearly interested in acquiring knowledge, the more the better.  I wonder how the people he talked to felt about being asked so many questions about themselves?

Ezagutza's demeanor is rather...unsettling. :P I can't imagine Judy was terribly thrilled getting the third degree in the library.

That Judy! I love his impression of Chris, Mr. Highly Desirable. I've noticed that the Altos are fund of the gym ion other games too. I wonder what y'all think of Keira's fun. (Note, i pronounce Keira as Kee-I-Rah.  But also as Kira (Like Shakira). How are you pronouncing it?)
