Looking back at the pictures of the warden and the guards it should have been obvious to me that they were vampires. (My favorite sim is a vampire)  :-[.
Great update as usual. And congratulations on the 100th chapter! *throws confetti and stuff*  ;D

Woot Woot! I'm with Danielle! *ducking confetti & stuff* Congratulations on an epic chapter!! And I knew that Warden wasn't to be trusted!! The fact that I had absolutely no clue he was a Vampire is simply besides the point. (That's my story and I'm sticking to it!)  ;)

Thanks for the congratulations on the 100th chapter!  Looking back at the first post, I see it was almost exactly 6 months ago that I started this story.  It's hard to believe this story has been going that long.  This may be my longest-running story apart from the Clan Douglas Dynasty.  And Ben doesn't seem interested in retiring yet, so who knows how much longer we'll continue adventuring.  It's been wonderful having all the readers along on this journey, and I hope you'll stay tuned, because Chapter 101 is coming right up.  :D

Blood Island, Part XII

Diary Entry

My sleep that night was filled with strange, disturbing dreams.  Fiery dreams of great conflagrations.

Next morning out in the garden helping Conrad, I knew what I had to do.

If smelling like an onion would keep me off the vampires' menu a little longer, I'd eat all the onions the little plant would produce.  I had never eaten a whole raw onion before.  But I liked most vegetables, and I was sure I'd like the onion.

... or not.

Tears stung my eyes, my nose ran and my mouth felt like it was on fire.  But if it kept the vampires at bay it was worth it.

With all the chores there were to do, the morning passed quickly enough.  Every so often a prisoner would be summoned to the guards' room upstairs, but the call I had been dreading didn't come and when recreation period arrived I was beginning to hope I'd be safe for another day.  I joined the prisoners filing out into the bare courtyard.

Suddenly there was a rustling sound in my inventory and it started vibrating as if possessed.  What on earth?  Then it dawned on me - Fluffy!  I had forgotten all about the poor little fellow.

I drew him out and apologized profusely for having forgotten about him.  The little guy hadn't eaten in - how long had it been? - much too long, and I prayed he wouldn't bite off my fingers as he lunged for the treat I held out for him.

"Fluffy, how would you like some exercise, boy?" I asked.  The prisoners clustered around to watch Fluffy flying through the courtyard.

Fluffy returned to land on my shoulder and Brian came over to take a closer look at him.  "I always wanted a pet!  He's cute!"

Conrad's hot-headedness got the better of him.  "And just what use is that creature, I'd like to know?!" he demanded in a loud, aggressive tone.  "He doesn't even have the sense to get out of this place and carry a message to someone.  Useless, like his master."

I was getting used to Conrad and wasn't particularly bothered by his outburst, but Fluffy suddenly rose off my shoulder in a great flurry of wings.  Before I knew what was going on, my little friend was shooting a fiery blast straight at Conrad.

I watched in horror as Conrad danced around, trying to stamp out the flames licking at his feet.

I hastily apologized to Conrad, telling him I didn't know what had gotten into my little buddy.  Darren, who had been watching with great amusement, clapped his hands and said, "Good for him!  Conrad, the wee fellow was just protecting his master!  Now, let that be a lesson to you - be nice to people with dragons!"

Brian came up to look at Fluffy again.  "He's wonderful!  So brave!  I wish I had a little friend like him.  Imagine what he could do to one of those guards."

Yeesss...

I'd completely forgotten about Fluffy...

I'm afraid I did, too. Very handy to have a dragon in your pocket, though. Vampires and fire don't exactly mix, after all.  ;)

I was fairly certain about the Kitty clocks, there were several clues:
1) How did they know Ben was banging against the door?
2) If Schipperke had put so much effort into making this a perfect prison, why didn't she remove all those clocks when SaltyPaws told her that there were no such clocks in a prison?
3) Why were there two clocks in Ben's room?

I have some other suspicions about the clocks, but I think that those are very far fetched right now.

I had noticed that the guards were vampires, why else would Schipperke make a point of the fact that the taxi driver opened the car window?  I had not noticed the blue and orange thing though - I was also way off about why the warden locked up Ben - I thought he did it just to be petty because Ben had garlic breath - sounds fairly silly now after the fact.

Last night, at about 1 AM, I woke up remembering that Ben still had the dragon.  I thought that I would post something about it during the day, but alas it is too late now.  I do have a question, did you do that whole new kilt thing and the in flight romance thing to distract us from the fact that he had a dragon?

Strategy Thinker, you've made some excellent points - I think your username was well-chosen!

As to whether this is a perfect prison - well, it's a Sim prison.  Which is to say, it's not really meant to be an exact replica of a real-life prison.  There are significant differences, some of which you haven't seen yet.  But you were definitely right to be suspicious of the clocks.  The reason there were 2 clocks in Ben's room is that I wanted to be sure the clock showed in screenshots, and at that point I hadn't yet decided to play with the walls up.  And later I forgot to remove the extra clock.  ::) Then again, maybe the reason Conrad & Ben's cell has an extra clock is that it's an extra-security cell - that sounds good, let's go with it.  ;D

The new kilt thing came about just because I had just discovered the new Dragon Valley kilt and wanted to get peoples' opinions about different wardrobe options for Ben.  And I knew I needed to do that before he got to the prison or wait until he got out.

As for the in-flight romance, that was just Ben being Ben!  With his traits of Great Kisser, Flirty and Irresistible, plus his maximized Charisma skill, romance pretty much follows him wherever he goes.  The game's attraction system helps with that too.  If I wrote about every romance Ben has, there would never be anything else in this story.  I don't remember, but I might have not quite finished the prison at that stage, so that could have been part of the reason Ben was allowed his little in-flight romance.

But I have to admit, I was rather hoping that people wouldn't be dwelling on how Fluffy might fit into the story until Ben actually remembered Fluffy and discovered his little friend's talents.

Thanks everyone for the comments!

When you mentioned the allium family my brain immediately went to garlic, and from there went to the whole vampire idea. The problem is, I dismissed the thought because the blue guys don't look like in-game vampires! That's what I get for over-thinking. :P

My sleep that night was filled with strange, disturbing dreams.  Fiery dreams of great conflagrations.

Interesting...seems significant that Ben would be dreaming about fire right before realizing that he still had a dragon hanging about. And on that note...

"Now, let that be a lesson to you - be nice to people with dragons!"

Can't go wrong with that logic. From this point forward, I solemnly swear to always be nice to people with dragons. Or who look like they might have a dragon.
*Looks over at Raia and ;)*

Yay Cerber- er, Fluffy!

Loved this sneaky little reference...I'm watching you, Swirl! <evil grin>

Schip, you have outdone yourself! I totally forgot about Fluffy and if *I* forgot Fluffy, hopefully that means he will continue to be a closely guarded secret at the prison. I can only imagine what Ben will be able to accomplish with a protective dragon watching his back! Loving this mission!!

I know!  And the funny thing is, that dream really did happen the night before I was planning to bring Fluffy back to the story.  I couldn't believe when I saw that little icon, because I've watched Sims dreaming before and I don't remember ever seeing that icon until now.  It just seemed as if Ben's dream was trying to tell me something.

Thanks very much for the comments!  And now, without further ado, here's the next chapter coming right up.  :D
