Argh, my eyes!
I can't imagine what it would have been like for Ben. Poor Ben.

Oh, poor Ben. I can't imagine anybody spending any length of time in that room coming out alright. It'd drive anybody mad.

That floor pattern really messed with my head there. I'm impressed with the black light you used with that first lighting change. Very surreal.

I feel so sorry for Ben, stuck in that room. I would probably go crazy if I were him! Nice job, Grimsoul and Chuckles on the wallpaper and flooring. They disoriented me for a moment.  ;D Waiting patiently for the next chapter!

That room gave me a headache. Poor Ben. I would've have gone crazy in that room.
Great update as usual Schipperke.

I am really behind on stories because of technical issues but I just had to comment on a few things...

1. I thought it was ironic that the entire time Ben was feeling guilty & ashamed, he was wearing his Superman robe!! Could it be that the robe was the work of his subconscious telling him that he didn't deserve to feel so badly?

2. I suspected that Mr. Payne would be making an appearance but I did NOT expect to see Dr. Freud walk through the door...

3. I laughed out loud at your clever use of the disappearing chair screenshot during one of Ben's therapy sessions..."Floating on air," Indeed!! :D

4. Kudos to Joria for creating such a brilliant rendition of the one & only King of Rock 'n' Roll, you had my vote!! (Even if Elvis *is* keeping Ben from some much needed romance)

5. Unfortunately, I find myself in the position of distrusting Dr. Freud's motives in light of Ben's most recent bout of Hypnosis. Weren't we told, in no uncertain terms, that a Sim cannot be hypnotized into doing something against their will? I'm also pretty sure that once you've been hypnotized once, that you're more susceptible to its' effects in the future. Was Dr. Freud laying the groundwork for what was to happen to Ben at the Sanitarium?

6. As I mentioned above, I'm still reading but due to technical issues, it's very difficult to post. Just know that I am eagerly awaiting the next update and keeping my fingers crossed that Ben is able to overcome the hypnotic suggestion and not compromise himself any further. After all, he's GOOD again!!

Maybe what Ben is currently in the thralls of is not hypnosis, but some higher form of dark magic. Dr. Freud is only human, after all, but who knows about this voice in the mirror?

The Long Road Back, Part IX

Diary Entry

When I awoke I was in my own bed and the morning light was streaming through the windows.

The memories of that long, long night came flooding back.  No doubt the sensory overload, sleep deprivation and hunger were intended to help put the "subject" in a weakened state, receptive to the voice's commands.  Then the final touches were added by inducing a hypnotic state in which the subject was given an assignment and a post-hypnotic suggestion that would wipe the experience from conscious memory.

Except that the voice, whoever it was, hadn't counted on a subject who had just recently been instructed in hypnosis by the master, Dr Simgund.  I remembered what he had said, "Nobody can be hypnotized against their will," and "You cannot be made to do anything that you really don't want to do."  Dr Simgund's patient explanation had given me the information I needed to avoid being overwhelmed and succumbing to the voice.  I had endured the conditioning experience - the lights, noise, etc - long enough for my capitulation to be believable, and then I had pretended to be under the voice's control.  I was glad my act had been convincing, because if whoever it was had resorted to use of truth serum or hypnotic drugs, I wasn't sure how I would have dealt with that.

And now what was I going to do?  I was supposed to leave for the Military base at 3 pm, which gave me a little time beforehand but not much.  Meantime, I was starving, so I made my way downstairs to breakfast, figuring I might think better on a full stomach.

Everyone else had already eaten, so I had time to think as I ate.  I needed to make a phone call, but I was sure "they" - whoever "they" might be - would be keeping a close eye on me.  I had to maintain the fiction that I was under the voice's control.  What I needed was a plausible excuse for getting away from the Sanatorium for a while without arousing suspicion.  But what?  I was mulling this over when Caroline appeared.

"There you are!" she exclaimed.  "Are you feeling better?  We were all so worried about you when you didn't appear all day yesterday.  I'm sorry you were sick."

Time was passing, and I was having trouble thinking of a plausible reason for me to get away.  I didn't really have time to chat with Caroline.  Then I remembered her eagerness to be my "assistant," and I thought - why not?  I whispered confidentially to her, "I'm being watched.  I need to find a way to leave the building without arousing suspicion."

She beamed.  "Oh, a mission!  You leave everything to me, I'll set it up."

She darted off.  I pretended to be reading a book as I watched Caroline going up to the other patients and whispering to them.

I can't help but remain somewhat apprehensive of Caroline, and indeed all of the inmates. Who is to say none of them have been in that room? I'm not sure if any of them could endure the same way Ben could. Except perhaps Elvis. Any of Joria's sims is certainly made of tough stuff.

This is really riveting!  I am so intrigued about this new development.  Yeah for Ben remembering Dr Simgund's words and having the strength of mind to withstand the hypnosis.  I really love this Schipp!  ;D

Go Ben! I really like Caroline, she seems so sweet, but I get an uneasy feeling from that nurse lady...

Yes, the nurse would be in the best position to set up the psychosis-inducing room... Congrats to Ben, though, for resisting hypnosis!

I really hope Caroline and her mates can help Ben in his achievement . Good for him in resisting the hypnosis , that looked horrible with the intensity of that room . Great update !  :)

What a relief that Ben was able to resist the hypnosis. Here's hoping that Caroline and the others really are on Ben's side. Not that I'd expect anything less out of Elvis. :P

I'm at the edge of my seat with anticipation!
