The Boy Who Cried Wolf
« Reply #195 on: January 14, 2013, 11:04:04 AM »
Moonglow is part of our family now.  Freddie built her a small stable area in the front of the house with his own bare hands, like a real fairytale hero.  The two of them are already BFFs and have won two races together.

I really like Moonglow, and I think she likes me, but I'm too scared to try and ride her.  Instead, I feed her apples and talk to her about school, sometimes.

Lancelot would be my official BFF if he were big enough to be able to do that.  But he's just a tiny bird and probably doesn't think much.  I love him all the same.

I love Sherlock too.  But, I think he worries about me a lot.  He was in my room when I decided that I was going to use the potion.  But he's just a dog.  He can't really understand, can he?

I didn't do it right away.  It was time for school.  My first day of high school was only okay.  I made a friend named Eunice and got an opportunity to research the science facility.

When I was walking home after, I stopped off in the greenhouse.  I suddenly was overwhelmed with the urge to be around green things growing.  I picked some tomatoes and lettuce and put them in my knapsack.  (It's not stealing!  The greenhouse is a community garden!)

Well, it's like the universe had aligned and known I'd be picking produce that night!  When I got home, Granny Coralie had a big surprise for me.  She'd set up a corner of the greenhouse for me to get started on my garden!

It's just a tiny spot for now, but she says the greenhouse area is all mine to do with as I like.  I was so excited I could barely contain myself.

I asked Freddie how he spent his day.  He said he wanted to give Moonglow a break, so he'd gone to the spring festival.  I'm only a little jealous that he used the kissing booths.

Both of them.  Freddie believes in equal love.

I planted my tomatoes and lettuce and then I went upstairs for the night.  I thought about Eunice and Freddie and prom and homework and the garden and most of all the vial.  It was a lot in my brain, so I had to take a little break for a while.  I played boat races.

Then I went ahead and did it.  There's really no point in waiting, is there?

I didn't feel much different, but then suddenly I decided I really wanted an apple and something crazy happened.

I didn't eat that one.  Apples aren't supposed to be pink, silly.  But it did make me realize that I was different.  The next day, after school, I bought a wand from the elixir store, and practiced in my room, away from prying eyes.

I think maybe I have a talent for it!  Later, I transfigured some leftover tomatoes in the greenhouse (and some apples I'd conjured from thin air!)  Results were mixed.

I spend a lot of time in the greenhouse.  It's almost like the plants are my babies or my friends.  I talk to them as much as I can, but I also have to make time to talk to Moonglow and Lancelot.

I don't much talk to Sherlock, but I think that's because he knows what I did.  Maybe his name really is perfect for him.  He's a detective dog.

Anyway, I wanted to talk about something bad that happened.  Or I think it's bad.  People are sad about it, and I guess I'm pretty sad too.  Uncle Emmett told me my garden looked great and bragged about Freddie winning another race.  Then he kissed Aunt Ophelia and went to sleep, but he never got up again.

Of course, we all thought it was a false alarm.  But Grim didn't come.  Maybe he thought it was a false alarm too.  Either way, Emmett wasn't restored this time, and he's actually really gone now.  For good.

I think it's kind of nice that the last thing he ever did was roll a wish (at the same time as Ophelia) to kiss her, and then he did.  Of course it's sad that he's gone, but maybe he is relieved after dying so many times that this time he can just go, and later Ophelia will be with him.  She's super sad though.  Gran spends a lot of time trying to cheer her up.

When she feels better, I'll tell her that I think theirs was a beautiful love story.  I think about it in the garden pretty much all the time.  About the false proposal, the almost wedding, and Gran's sacrifice.  About Ophelia rescuing him from a lifetime of loneliness, and about his unlucky trait and such.

I mean, how many people have a story like that?

The day after he died was Love Day.  I imagine that was really hard for Aunt Ophelia.  But guess what!  Uncle Emmett had already bought her a sing-o-gram for the occasion.  She cried and laughed through the whole thing and I think it made her feel a little better.  Plus, now she has a wicked pink bunny toy to snuggle with at night.

As for me, I think I'm on the right track.  The day I used the potion, that big scary head moved!  It left the colosseum and relocated over to the exact spot where Freddie found Moonglow.  Now, that, to me, seems like a good sign.  I still dream about it.  It says one day I should come "commune."

It doesn't scare me anymore.  It seems more like a friend now.

I won't commune today, though.  Right now, I'm busy.  I'm dreaming about growing up and telling Freddie I love him and getting married and having a baby.  I'm dreaming about the garden growing and growing until it overflows with color and life.  I'm dreaming about immortality.  And it's beautiful.

I was a bit behind, and had a big goofy smile on my face after The most incredible thing and then after reading this last post, I was kind of sad to see that Emmett finally left us. Great updates.

I was wondering if she might be Childish. That makes sense. Especially for someone that is obsessed with fairy tales! I like it, it fits her. I think her outlook on life is very beautiful.

It is so like Freddie to use both kissing booths. Hahaha, I love his character. So far, Eden is the character I identify most with in this story, and I think I would like Freddie too!

RIP Emmett. Glad you got your rest at last.

Rest well, Emmett. You have earned it. <sniff!>

Eden's character is so likable and relate-able. It will be fun to see what she does as a gardening witch. :)

Aw, Emmett! Did Grim really not show up to escort him? I've never had an unlucky sim. I like Eden's re-cap of Emmett and Ophelia's love story. And the sing-a-gram! So sweet.

Thanks, simchuff.  I'm glad you guys enjoyed Incredible Thing so much.  It was fun to write.

Freddie at the kissing booths makes me chuckle occasionally as I go about my day ;)

I think childish Sims in general are likable.  She's the first one I've played, but it's really fun fulfilling her wishes.  I wish she could still use the costume chest!

I could hear him, but I didn't see him there.  He didn't come for Eduardo either.

The Scientific Method

Did you think for an instant I didn't know what was going on with my daughter?  Probably not.  We know each other better than that by now.  When I came home the day I first sensed the change in her, I felt proud.  Eden is special in her own right, but now she was more than special.  She is supernatural.

I won't tell her I know, though.  It is up to Eden to share or keep to herself her own private matters.  But, I must confess I too have had the desire to become a witch, as the life state I truly crave (yes, I still want fairy wings) is not available to me.  Incidentally, my toughest chess opponent is a fairy - Bianca Monty.  She's very, very good.

If you're wondering how everyone's doing after losing Emmett, I can say we're all keeping it together.  Ophelia has been spending a lot of (autonomous) time in the museums.  I think she is reminding herself that her life has been devoted to something extraordinary.

Freddie has been drowning his sorrows in the usual Freddie way.  Love.

I've asked Eden if Freddie is aware of her plans for him, because my child has their entire future mapped out.

"Of course not, Mommy," she says with a wicked little grin.  "He'll know when it's time for him to know."

Ha.  Well, I hope Moonglow approves of her.  The horse is rather protective of both Freddie and his beloved mother.

I confess, I do know why Eden's all enamored of him, even if he is about as likely to commit to a traditional marriage as Moonglow is to stand on her hind legs and do the Smustle.

Eden is not concerned with what you or I would call "realistic expectations."  That's all right I suppose.  I cope my way - via science and logic and Eden copes via fantasy and pretty things.

Then again, she is not a girl who has ever been limited by reality, now, is she?

She is, despite her childish nature, doing well in school.  Her friend Eunice comes over quite often.  I suspect she has a bit of a crush on Eden.  (But then, who doesn't?)

They've decided to go to prom together.  "Just as friends, duh," Eden says, but I hope she's made that clear to Eunice, who really is a darling girl.  I teach her in my science class on Thursdays.

I have to refrain from asking her to please not be Eden's guinea pig.  I have to so Eden still thinks it's her secret.  But I do worry Eunice will end up in some awful way if she keeps letting Eden experiment on her.

The night of her prom, while my daughter was upstairs getting beautiful, I aged up to an adult.

The midlife crisis hit, and I immediately headed to the hospital to acquire therapy.  Once that was settled, I purchased the hospital, because what better building to own than the one that promotes logic.  I've renamed it The Classic Institute of Learning.

Eden was elected prom queen, just like I was.  She was also approached by a teacher who offered her a great deal of extra credit to interview a French local ... which is obviously difficult being that we are not in France.  Also, Eunice kissed her.

"Like, on the lips, Mom," Eden says.

"Well what did you expect, honey?  It was prom."

"Oh, it was kind of nice.  Freddie will be so proud I'm practicing free love!"

Watcher save us.

Well, I thought about it a lot.  Maybe it was the final remnant of my midlife crisis or maybe it was a concern that we three didn't spend enough time as a family unit, but I had an idea.  I shared the idea with my daughter the next morning.  Why don't we just ... go to France?  Get away from it all?  Wouldn't that be the perfect, logical method to bond?

"Can Freddie come?" she asked.

"Absolutely not."

Freddie, in addition to possibly traumatizing the entire female population of the French nation, needed to be home with his mother and his horse in this difficult time.

The first thing Eden did when we got to France was to take care of her interview.  She found a woman tending a cafe and charmed her into a nice little write up.

Then she hovered over Hiram and I while we tried to banter over a game of chess, sighing and looking whimsical.  It was kind of cute, I suppose.

I decided that I wanted to do some exploring on my own, while Hiram and Eden spent quality time together.  She sat down across from him and looked at him expectantly.  As I was walking away, I'm pretty sure I heard her decide on the nectary as their destination.

I spoke to some locals for advice on what to check out.  Ruins and museums were suggested to me, both which stimulate my intellectual side.

I had the motive mobile, which was ideal as I liked to avoid base camp.  There was a strange man with unfortunate breath there who constantly attempted to talk to me.

From what I understand, Hiram and Eden had an amazing time at the nectary and made friends with a lot of other tourists.

I explored and solved puzzles and overall improved my mind.  The ruins were peaceful and scenic.

While the museum was mysterious and beautiful.  I left with a level 2 visa.

And just to do my part in cheering her up, I brought Ophelia back a souvenir.

Haha! What a great update. I liked getting to see it through Rosetta's eyes. She would just go down to the hospital for therapy for a mid-life crisis, wouldn't she! It's the sensible thing to do.

Eden and Eunice are sweet. "Freddie will be so proud that I'm practicing free love!" Am I seeing a "trio" in the making here?

I choked on my laughter. Particularly on this line, 'even if he is about as likely to commit to a traditional marriage as Moonglow is to stand on her hind legs and do the Smustle.' I have no idea how you do it, but your characters are so real. They're so in depth. They do just what they would do. Of course Rosetta went straight to the hospital. Of course sweet little Eden is naive and dreams, and the first thing she thinks when her friend kisses her is 'Freddie will be proud!' Perhaps Rhoxi is right, and there will be more of a trio thing going on.

How clever of Eden to plan on impressing Freddie with her liberal Outlook on life. I Love when the Sims travel, maybe it speaks to the adventurer in me, but I always feel so happy for them.

I can't wait to see what Freddie will do when Eden tells him about her Plans for them.

Hee. If Freddie and Eunice like each other, there's mileage to be gotten from the "No Jealousy" LTR. :)

Quite possibly.  I'll have to see when Eunice ages up and figure out how to make this work.  The fact that he keeps wanting to have babies with random fairies and vampires doesn't help his prospects for monogamy much.

How clever of Eden to plan on impressing Freddie with her liberal Outlook on life. I Love when the Sims travel, maybe it speaks to the adventurer in me, but I always feel so happy for them.

Eden, while childish, is certainly not stupid.  I'm an adventurer at heart too and have a soft spot for France, where I spent nine months as a live-in nanny (au pair) after college.  I always enjoy sending my Sims there.

I choked on my laughter. Particularly on this line, 'even if he is about as likely to commit to a traditional marriage as Moonglow is to stand on her hind legs and do the Smustle.' Ha!  I was particularly proud of that line.  Thanks so much for your compliments on my writing style.  It really does mean a lot (especially since I enjoy yours so much as well!)

Eden is just so cute! I hope Freddie realizes it before he starts practicing "love" a little too freely!

Freddie is not what we call a particularly strategic kind of man.

Hee. If Freddie and Eunice like each other, there's mileage to be gotten from the "No Jealousy" LTR. :)

Possibly, and I imagine the "above reproach" one would be necessary too if Eden's ever going to make enough best friends.
