Question about Pregnancy
« on: December 19, 2012, 06:20:58 PM »
I know that listening to children's music and watching the kids channel on tv increases the chances of having twins or triplets.  At want point is it decided which are you going to have(assuming you and/or the babies father has the Fertility Treatment LTR)?   Is it when your sim becomes visibly pregnant(when the gender is decided) or right at birth?

Welcome to our Forum, DarkSerge.

Actually, the gender isn't decided at birth.  It can be changed during the pregnancy by eating watermelon for girls and apples for boys.  As for multiple births, someone who can look at the code might be able to tell us for sure, but I would think that children's music and TV would make it happen right before birth and that the LTR might make it happen a the beginning of the pregnancy.

I know the number of babies isn't 'set until the time of birth - or at least it wasn't. I was playing a family with 6 sims, one of whom was a pregnant woman with Fertility Treatment. One moved out right before the woman went into labor, and triplets were born - there wouldn't've been room for triplets until the extra sim moved out.

My caveat here is that I know since that game, there have been changes to the mechanics of multiple births to allow for more mixed-gender twins (and possibly the potential for quadruplets?)

Last time I checked the coding it still only mentioned twins and triplets.  It hasn't changed at all since Seabody gave us a write up of the code.   I checked the coding about a week ago when someone tried to tell me that quads were possible.  As far as I can tell quads are only possible through a major glitch like the grilled cheese eating one of old or through mods.

I do know that if your Sims are meant to be having a child or two that you can't actually add to the household if both babies made 8.  I've tried before and it told me the household was too full.  This could have changed since that occurence however, since like cathyknits said, they've modified it slightly since then.

Quads are possible with Twallan's mods that is where people are getting them from not EA.
