Can't get pet to let owner pick it up
« on: December 16, 2012, 12:00:05 AM »
My sim married a man who has a pet.  He was at her home when they married (private wedding).  It brought up the who moves box and it showed he had a pet.  I really don't want a pet but it is his dog, so I clicked for it to move to new household.

I wasn't sure how the pet would get there, run on its own or what.  Lived close by so if the dog had to run there it would take a while but could get there.

The dog didn't show up, and so I sent a family member to get the critter, but she wouldn't let the sim pick her up.  She would reach for the dog and then shudder and pull back.  Tried the let sniff hand, give treat, and then try to pick up the dog.  Again, the shudder and pulling away from the dog.  It wasn't even at the owners home, but had somehow gotten to Varg's Tavern.  It kept following one of the vamps around, Dante or something like that.
Sent the owner and he couldn't pick up the pet either.  Left it there, not sure what to do.  The dog shows up in the boxes on the side, but when I click on it to go home the house flicks in then out.
The poor thing is showing up in red, and says it is pent up and can't get out.  Yet the owner can't pick it up.  Have sent him twice to get the dog and he can't touch it.  And it won't follow him or any other member of the family; it just runs to the vamps and weres and barks at the owner or other family members.

So, what do I do?  How long before it is taken away to the shelter?

Try resetsim with the dog's name. Will give its moods a boost at the very least, and should send it to your household.

If the moods are in the red, you will get a warning before it is taken to the shelter. In this situation the dog may be stuck, so resetsim is your best option.

Thanks for the help.  Did the reset and the dog showed up at her new home.

Glad to know what to do if it ever happens again.  I should have realized it was for more than the sims themselves.
Sadly, I had to call the shelter anyhow.  The dog's traits was aggressive and likes water; she immediately bit two of the adults in the house when they reached down to pet her.  I can imagine what would happen with a child crawling around and grabbing ahold of her (the dog).

What really suprised me was the Boney didn't want anything to do with the dog, when all of the other Boney's I have had were petting strays all the time, giving them treats and teaching them tricks.  I can't see the programing set up to create a "bad" dog though, so it has to have just been a fluke.

You can train the aggressive trait out of him.  When he does something that's aggressive, click on Reinforcement, then Scold For and pick the thing he did.  Also, once the dog gets enough happiness points, you can change his personality and remove that aggressive trait.

Thanks Pam,

It has been so long since I played with the aspect of having a pet that I didn't remember what could be done.
Right now, I need the room space for family, but since I had bought all of the stuff needed for a dog, I am thinking of giving it a try again, but one where I have a better control over the traits.

Being a dog lover, I keep thinking of having a dog in a town; but then remember all of the reason's I gave up on pets.  But maybe with several family members, it would be easier to take care of the little monsters.
I wonder if I could even get one that look like our monster, a Wimie.  Grey Ghost is a perfect nickname for that breed.

I'm pretty sure they have that breed available in CAS. You can go into edit town and create a sim and make a dog, then move it into your household, if you want that particular dog. Or just keep it in mind for your next game.
