The Cottoneye Witches of Monte Vista

PROLOGUE

Dear Artemis,

I’ve arrived in Monte Vista, and let me tell you, I’m so excited to be here! (Although I miss you and wish I could see my new niece Diana, etc., etc.) By the way, I'm singing "The hills are alive with the sound of magic."

I spent my time on the way here trying to think of my rationale for starting an Immortal Dynasty. It’s not enough that the Watcher promised me one of my own in order to get me to help you achieve your requirements (and I do feel a bit embarrassed about that); it’s not enough that I get to be young again (okay, maybe it is enough).

By the time I arrived, I still didn’t know my justification for being here. To teach people how to deal with zombies, yes, but I wanted something more. While I did more thinking, I flew around a bit. This place is gorgeous! In this picture you can see the fishery next door to my lot.

Here’s the bridge I cross to get to the mainland.

This is the theatre up in the walled part of town.

Here are the library and the police station.

And finally (for now, at least), here are the gates of the city.

It’s such a magical place that I’m sure I’ll be very happy. Speaking of which, I think I’ve found my mission. When I was talking to one of the residents (Camillo Mancini, single, has a brother capable of painting portraits), I discovered there were no other witches in town, no vampires, fairies, or werewolves either.

Anyway, I’ve decided to add a little magic to Monte Vista. Luckily, there’s an elixir shop here, so I can learn alchemy there until I get a station of my own. There is also a public market, and it sells life fruit, which means I don’t have to become an expert gardener. The prices at the stalls are high (I thought it was supposed to get cheaper when you eliminated the middleman?), so I’m starting a garden anyway.

At the moment I have a huge lot and a tiny, pre-fab house. You can interpret that as “pre-fabricated” or “pre-fabulous”. It has a bathroom and a bedroom, so I won’t have to sleep in the rain. No kitchen as yet, and I have to put a fence around the garden before the next full moon.

I’ve decided that my new favorite color is violet; grey just seems too drab for this beautiful place. Here’s my new formal. I think once I’ve met a few people, I might have a formal party just so I can see what people look like without their sunglasses.

You’ve seen my everyday outfit already. Here’s nightwear, athletic, swimwear, and outerwear.

The Summer Festival started this morning. It’s held at the Etruscan Ruins, quite a change from the Cannery in Riverview.

Write and let me know how things are going with you, Diana, and Weston. I want pictures! Love, Mercy

Woah! Monte Vista is enchanting: the perfect place for a witchy dynasty.  :D
I'm a bit worried about her plan to buy life fruit, though. From what I understand, she'll still need to grow a plant from seed too.

Yes, I discovered that when I looked at the rules again. But at least she can get a starter plant from the market.

She could plant the life fruit she buys. Surely that would fulfill it being home grown, right?

Great start Marian. So long as Mercy plants her bought life fruit at home and grows one of her own then she is fine.

Chapter One – It’s Not Kidnapping if They’re Friends

Dear Artemis,

I had the strangest dream the other night. I dreamed that I went to the Elixir Shop, met Luigi Ricardo there, married him, and built a house for him, me, his sister Paola, and his nephew Orlando. It all seemed so real, but when I woke up, I was still in my shack.

I must say that I do envy you having all the heavy work of your dynasty behind you with nothing left but to raise Diana in a happy and healthy environment. Before I get too old, I have to grow some life fruit (apparently, I can't just buy it), get my portraits painted, reach the top of my career and max a skill, catch some death fish, and fix ambrosia, not to mention completing black ops and making best friends, and buying a building and a property. Forgive my grousing; I realize you had some rough moments, too. Anyway, here’s the moon of Monte Vista.

After the dream, I realized that I needed some help. I went and visited the Mancinis. Carlo was out, but Camillo was there, and I discovered that he enjoyed talking about cooking and art. After a fairly lengthy conversation, I asked if he wanted to move in, and he said yes. I suggested he bring his brother Carlo, too.

When we reached the lot, my shack had disappeared.

“What are we supposed to move in to?” Camillo asked.

I decided this was not the time to tell them that I used to write horror novels.

I didn’t miss the shack – the three of us wouldn’t have fit into it anyway – but there was a very sticky moment when I had to explain that we’d be moving into a house built with their money. They didn’t bring as many Simoleons with them as I’d hoped (I had it on good authority that they had $20,000 in cash), but we were able to build a bathroom and bedroom, and place them on a foundation so we wouldn’t get flooded every time it rains.

Carlo started painting my portrait, and Camillo promised to study cooking while he was at work. I put in a garden, and I’ve begun learning all about alchemy.

They do agree that the view is fantastic.

I had expected to marry Camillo, but we just aren’t compatible (he’s a Libra; I’m Capricorn). To my surprise, I found myself drawn to Carlo, even though he’s much older than I am (almost an elder), a little overweight, and, well, evil. But we are both artistic and love the outdoors, and Carlo has a green thumb. We’re not the lovebirds you and Weston are, but when he suggested we get married, I agreed.

And lately, I’ve been feeling nauseous. It could be that I ate a poison apple by mistake, but I try to be careful about that.

Now you definitely owe me a letter, Mercy

Mercy's list of all the requirements just brought home how much needs to be done!
I so admire you for taking on two different dynasties at once, Marian. All those different rules to keep in mind, let alone devising strategies twice for every generation (and in between, I'm sure!)... I'd be utterly lost.
I love Mercy for reminding her sister of the moon. It links them even though they are far apart.
I hope Mercy's marriage will bring her the happiness she deserves. She has so much in common with Carlo, surely love will grow?
Wonderful update!  :D

I am very curious about this dream. Was that a previous attempt? Will it be explained later?

So nice to see Mercy again, I do love her 1920's fashion style, it suits her perfectly.

I had to come looking for this after Artemis' comment about the Mancini brothers, it got me intrigued. Evil isn't so bad if that's the only trait, they scare you occasionally and pick the odd fight with other sims, it's only when paired with another mean trait it gets a bit rough. I'm sure Mercy will be very happy with Carlo.

I'm surprised you haven't taken Carlo's shades off, all the sunglasses in Monte Vista are a little over the top, can't see anybody's eyes. I hope the baby isn't born wearing shades.
