It happened in one of my games. In AP town. A townie, don't know who she was, had the hungry sign over her head when she started to eat. I figured it would leave as she ate the hotdogs, but all of a sudden she drops to the ground and the sounds that preceeds Grim showing up happened. She died and it was sad really; EA should have it set that if they are in an eating contest they don't starve to death.
My sims have participated in several eating contests, hot dogs and pie. I always make sure that they are at least half full before they start. They end up with the stuffed moodlet afterwards.
One time one of my sims got away from me and went to take part just after he had eaten. He had a full bar and before I realized it he was chowing down on the hotdogs. Needless to say, he was sick afterwards, dashing off to the bathroom to throw up.
I keep an eye on them and if it looks as if they are going to stay with the hunger sign and I get concerned, I just stop them from eating and have them eat a snack from their inventory. I always have some fruit and also meal bars that I pick up from traveling. I have placed in all of my sims, especially the kids, as soon as I can some shower cans for hygiene and meal bars.
I agree with the idea that no child would be allowed to die, adults yes, kids no.
What gets me is that once in SV my sim went to the library. There was a sim, NPC or townie, not sure, who was stuck on a wall ledge. I checked back that night and he was still there. The next day he was there, the signs of hunger and sleep over his head, but yet he was alive and screaming away. I had to leave and checked at the end of the day and he was there yellng away and waving his arms. The next day he was gone, so two days and nights at least suck on that ledge.
I don't know how to free him, so I just had to leave him there.
