Sorry the math is wrong. 3 plus 4 plus 4 is 11

Aack, help!

A fire started on my home lot; every time it gets extinguished it re-starts.  There has now been a continuous fire problem for 4 sim-hours.

I don't want to save; game is paused waiting on instructions for how to fix or permission to go back to a previous save or restart.

Thank you!

Did you call the firefighters?  How did it get started?

If all else fails move everyone to a safe distance get them all to visit the park or something and wait for the fire to burn out. You will have to rebuild but I see no need for you to go back to a previous save.

It started with a birthday cake.

The firefighters are there already; the fire goes out completely (the color goes back to normal), then I get the pop-up that a fire has started on my home lot again.

This has happened 5 or 6 times already.

Every time the fire restarts the fire fighters put it out successfully, but it won't stop restarting.

As soon is the fire is out, do you go into buy mode to change out the tables or anything?  Sell the cake?

I got rid of the cake, it's still happening.

I click on the damaged items and select "replace", it's still happening.

I have been using the sim minute or three between fires to move as much of the furniture to the family inventory as possible; I don't want to lose upgraded items etc.

ETA:  This started with a fire on another birthday cake, normal, which I deleted and then bought another cake, and then this started happening.

ETA again:  Okay, I think I've found the problem.  There's a square of floor tile that I cannot delete between fires or anything, and now that I've removed the rest of the floor tiles in the room, that's where all the fires are starting.  I cannot get it to stop burning and I cannot delete the tile at all.

Also, at this point the firefighter has stopped fighting the fires.  He's just standing there.  My sims (and one guest who was over) are fighting all the fires now.

I have an idea:  may I use edit town to build myself a new lot?  Then I could just move the whole family and get away from this floor tile that won't stop burning.

ETA x3:  may I try using moveobjects to delete the problematic floor tile?

I have tried to get the sims further away from the fire, but when they're on the way, or hanging across the street, they get the Fire! action again and I can't seem to get them far enough away to not come back (except for the two who are in school).

Moveobjects on is an allowed cheat, so you don't need permission to use it.

The rules already allow for your family to move, as long as the whole family moves together, you just have to go through the 'move' option on the phone or computer, not through use of edit town. Snufflesxx asked about this on the second page of the thread and got a yes, so even though it's not in the main post, it is allowed.

I hope this problem gets fixed for you. If the moveobjects theory doesn't work, I would try saving your game as it is and restarting it to see if that resets the problem, before moving your family. Unless, of course, you just really want to have them move, lol.

Moveobjects didn't allow me to delete the floor tiles.

I can't have them move without edit town as all houses are currently full; I meant to use edit town to place a new, empty lot since it's now needed, not to move the family (though the time between fires is so short that I don't think I could get them to move without using edit town, come to think of it).

I have saved (under a new filename) and will try restarting game, computer, and all to see if the problem goes away; otherwise, I don't know how to solve this problem.

Wow, you have every single house in town full?

What town are you playing in?

Edit: After reading Rica's answer below, I can only say, "Oh. Duh, Shirin." :-\

This is why it's a good idea to kick out the kids not move them.   Let us know what the restart does for you.  Don't forget cache clearing!

I'm playing in Bridgeport.  I have only kicked kids out; they've moved into all the houses even though a couple times I managed to kick them out in groups.

I have already kicked out 22 kids, which is probably why there's no empty houses.

Did you try going into Build mode (F3) - use the sledgehammer tool (K) to delete that floor tile?

There actually should be some empty houses. It's in the game mechanics. The game should have moved out a couple of sims, unless you have story progression off?
