Does the baby have to be best friends with both parents at the time of caking up, or can it have simply achieved best friend status at some point before caking up? For example, it was best friends with Mom but that deteriorated to good friends by the time Dad got best friends.

I'm of the mind it's like the dynasty requirements.  Everything has to be in place for it to qualify.  Metro has final say though.

Is it possible in some way to reset the female to the start of her young adulthood at the start of the challenge? I've noticed in my practicing that it seems to have advanced her by a number of days at the time of creation.

Nope that's just one of the challenges you have to deal with when starting your scoring file.

My feeling is that for the baby has to be best friends with both parents at the point of caking up.

I agree with the Baby requirement for being BF with both parents to cake up. I will edit that rule for clarity.

-------

EDIT:

I took out the "becomes" and changed it to "is" obviously with the implication either the baby is BF with both at the same time or they are not. And caking up requires the baby to be BF with both.

Baby Stage Goal:
• If a Baby is Best Friends with both parents, then you may cake up the baby.

  • Only offspring can be added to the Household.

I'm assuming this means we can't add small pets such as birds, turtles, etc - correct?

Or do they not count because they don't take a space in the household?

Minor pets do not take up space in the household so therefore they are allowed.

Merry Christmas all.

Forgive me if I have misunderstood, but some of us will run out of unique LTR's about the same time as we reach your example.  So, it is obvious those with only vanilla or just one or two EP's will be at a serious disadvantage.  We certainly won't be able to select a LTR such as steel bladder and/or dirt defiant as a non-unique reward to make managing our househlds easier as this will further limit the number of offspring we can have.

If I have not misunderstood, is there a way around this should we manage to get to the point were we have used all available unique rewards.

It is also obvious that the more EP's a playerr has, the greater the choice of LTWs.  I have noticed that vanilla LTWs tend to be harder than those in the expansion packs I have.

I would quite like to have a go at this challenge, but, I am hesitating because of the restrictions of my less than complete game.

Wai,

I'm speaking as a player here, rather than anyone official. Please don't opt out of a challenge because you'll be at a disadvantage. Given some of the expert players here on the forum, we're all at a disadvantage. Most of us play for the fun of it -- and it's a competition where you really can say that.

If you look back at previous challenges, you'll see that many actually require a specific expansion pack in order to participate. That's for the benefit of people who have that pack and want to play around with it. However, there are usually quite a few that can be played with the base pack alone, and in the Handiness challenge, starting in January, it is actually a big advantage not to have all the expansions.

I would really encourage you to enter the Baby Boomer challenge because it's a lot of fun -- in a "tearing your hair out" kind of way. I think the Baby Boomer III challenge thread contains some of the strategies that people used for that. While some of the tasks are different, you can get some ideas that you might not have thought of.

Wai-

I would just play the challenge for the fun of it, and not for winning it.  Yes having less expansion pack means less LTR you can purchase, but isn't managing the household without steel bladder - more hectic more fun?   Having more expansion packs also brings along a new set of problems you have to worry about, can't go into much detail here :)

I see your point.  However, my major question is simply that, if you can get this going well, your game might have to end prematurely simply because there are no more unique LTR's available, this would, for me, be very frustrating.  Still, I probably would not get to the 20 plus household members anyway.  But, if I did.......?  That's my problem, I do like to finish what I start if you know what I mean.

I don't mind losing.  If I were to enter the London Marathon, I would expect to come in Last, or close to it.  But, if someone came up to me just as the finishing line came into view, and said "Right you, you're not allowed to go any further" I would be really miffed!
