I don't know if this helps speed up playing, but your "no mirrors" comment reminded me that sims don't even try to do dishes if there isn't a sink to wash them in.  I didn't put it any sinks and my family left their dishes and got to work on what I wanted from them sooner.  I could move the dishes to the trash myself.  That's when they were still eating, anyway.  ;)

Thanks CSquared, I had sinks for teens to check for because they were born with neurotic trait. Dad ate plasma fruits, mom apples and watermelons or casted hunger charm for herself. Kids and teens were taken to mobile motive drive when their motives were low. So no-one ever prepared any food in my family and the sinks were not a problem. I manually moved all the birthday cakes to recycle bin canceling all the wants to eat them.

Maybe they meant in the Sim Bin in CAS. Not in the library.

Yes the Sim Bin in CAS.  So it wasn't luck that I started out with 45 days, it was preplan, the sim always starts with 45 days in long settings.

I thought it may be still possible to do the martial arts ones by reading the book from the consignment store then sparring with tourists.

I did Physical Perfection (max athletics & martial arts) by having Dad read the book so he was an available sparring partner for the offspring with that LTW.

I guess I tend to be quite literal in my interpretation of the rules. I never thought to use Age of Instant potions to move offspring from one age category to the next since the rules specifically mention caking up with a birthday cake. On that same note, since the rules state No adoption or Clones, it never occurred to me that we could use clone drone on our teens to gain unique RI's, since the clones produced by that elixir are not automatically added to the household. Using the Age of Instant potions would have moved some kids out faster since I wouldn't have had to wait 24 hours and I can think of at least 4 of my kids who had reached lvl 3 in a part-time job but were having difficulties with the unique RI. I will definitely be making a note of both for the next Baby Boomer challenge.   :o

Right there with ya.  The rules seem to mean exactly what they say... except when they don't.

Maybe I've spent far too much time reading, writing, and inspecting technical and standards documents, where every phrase is refined until any trace of ambiguity is gone.

I am probably misunderstanding your post- but I'm wondering how the age of instant would have helped with the teens who had reached level 3 of their job but hadn't found a RI yet?  My understanding was that you could use age of instant, but they still had to fulfill all the age up requirements first.  Sorry- just confused here!  Lol!

I really enjoyed this challenge, even though as I was doing it I knew there were so many things I could have done better!  I am kicking myself for not thinking of doing birthdays off the lot.  That would have saved a lot of time and frustration!

Interesting strategies, kicking myself for not having thought of some of them! Never mind, maybe I'll try it again unofficially and see how it goes :)

Also, I haven't been added to the scoreboard.

I used many of the strategies I've seen here, but one notable difference was that I made the father  a fairy. That way I had a 50/50 chance that any kids would be fairies and thus be able to take care of most of their own needs from the age of toddler.

Heather, when the teens reach the day that they age into a young adult, they're going to age up with or without the use of cake, and regardless of whether or not they have a RI or have completed their job requirements. Age of Instant (if I understand properly) if given to a teen brings them to the day before they become a young adult ie last day of teenagerhood and as a result at some point on that day they will become a young adult. In effect saving yourself a number of days and within the rules of this challenge. Similarly with other ages from childhood up. At least that's how I understand it.

Hope that helps.

The age of instant and the RIs in this case were two separate scenarios, I believe. The Age of Instant elixir could have been used to age them up if they were ready before the cake option opened up again, and the Clone Drone elixir could have been used to provide RIs for those missing them.

I used Clone Drone elixirs to multiply the teenagers available for RIs but I didn't think of using them on my own teenagers. Good thinking!

I was referring to aging up the ones younger than teens with the Age of Instant. For the teens, using the Clone Drone potion would have gained them a Unique RI and enabled me to age them up to YA and out of the house.

Age of instant is only used for "child" stage - that is if you completed all the goals fast.  If you didn't complete the goals fast, you use birthday cake the next day to age them up.

On my challenge:
1) Age up toddler to child using birthday cake around 1am
2) Have child play on handiness blocks till skill level 3
3) Then have child pick up 10 gems around the lot
4) Goals completed for child stage -- but wait can't birthday cake him up again the same day
5) so use Age of instant - this allows them to have 2 birthdays in one sim day

Congratuations LenaLJ on winning this challenge!  And congratulations to everyone for finishing!  I counted 70 participants, which is awesome.  Metro, does this break the record for participation in a tournament?

Not an all time record for an event, but it set a high water mark for the Baby Boomer challenges. Baby Boomer III saw 66 participants. So needless to say I am thrilled. :)

Congratulations to Lena J and Nutella and everyone else that completed this long event. I wish I had not missed that we could choose the traits for our children as that would have made the event easier.

Have been having a bit hard time writing lastly but now my text is finished.

I’m so excited, the first challenge in metros tournaments I won was a baby boomers, I have won one as a shared first place in between, but winning another baby boomer makes me proud. It’s really fun to compete with you all.

About my strategy, many of the things told here people have already told.

First and foremost I did uninstall Generations, so no Graduation days, no proms, no scolding because of not going to school etc.

Mother and father:
Mother was a witch, with her main responsibility to stay happy and make alchemy, but also refining her witch powers. Her lifetimewish was Surrounded by Family.
Father started out as a werewolf, but did change states quiet often throughout the weeks. He had many responsibilities, like hunting as a werewolf, gardening as a fairy and also logic, fishing, consignment shop and more where on his duty list. His lifetimewish was Become a Master Thief.
Both learned charisma to get the benefits of Everybody’s Best Friend and Celebrity skill challenges. They also both got fertility treatment and the attractive LTR.

Baby
Babies were born at home to boost the relationship with the parents as much as possible. Both parents started high and it didn’t take long before they were best friends with the baby.
I choose Friendly and Genius for all kids.

Toddler
Toddlers where teached by skill books at the library and also most of their other skills there. They were barely toddlers for a day
Workaholic was chosen as trait for all kids.

Child
Mother did conversion spells on apples and gems and metals where spread over the whole lot so children just had to pick them up.
Then the children were playing with the blocks table with exception of the two needing the cooking skill.
If there was spare time and I needed a specific trait I had the dad tutor the child to a B grade before aging up.
Every child used an Age of Instant potion to be able to age up twice on the same day.

Teen
For the teens I choose the part-time job with the earliest ending hour as possible. Then they worked from home until the job performance was high enough that the three hours of work where enough to get them promoted.
Mother cast as love spell on each kid and they then used a clone drone for their romantic interest.
Spare time was used to work on the things for their LTW.

Young Adult
I did categorized lifetimewishes in to three groups, “Finish before or on age up”, “Finish in a couple of days” and  “Takes longer to finish”. A birth of the children I then calculated on the space needed in the house for newcomers and devided the lifetimewishes so I always had one or two longer going.
LTR’s where either randomly picked or choosen to help with the lifetimewish.

Congratulations Lena, and thanks for sharing.

Two questions if I may
1) Was there a strategy for choosing Become a Master Thief as dad's LTW?
2) Why doesn't age of instant potion get used for teens as well as for children?

Thanks
