It is because the boss man is a hard task master and Rica and I put in quite a few weeks of testing.

Rachel

Which means by the time yesterday hit we were able to do it all with our eyes closed and speed 3 pushed.   ;)

Frustratingly, I have a really bad feeling that I might know what the strategy was, and for some reason I discarded it during testing.

Silly Sunflower! This is what happens when I get sidetracked by Christmas!

(I will feel relieved when the challenge ends and you reveal something madly different) ;)

I have an inkling on what it is ;) This year my resolution is to be less of a perfectionist, though, so if I don't hit it, it doesn't matter (really, it doesn't - must. convince. self). What matters is having fun :D

If you include the vacation days too it comes to about 40 upgrades a day. I did a lot of research and still have no idea how that's possible! Looks like I'll be back down in my rightful place, in the bottom 1/4 of the leaderboard!

Oh boy.  And here I thought my practices were going well!  Clearly I have missed something big!

Heh, yeah I thought I was going to do a lot better this time around...oh well, it's still one of my favorite challenges, I'll be content with beating my score from last year, LOL.

:( I was actually going to try out the tournament, and even had some practice files going...but now I'm too intimidated to try for fear of a wimpy laughable score. :-\

You guys are going to make me feel bad for posting my score.   It wasn't even the best that could be done.  I made a lot of mistakes.   Don't be intimidated by someone else's score.   I did well on this one.  Bomb the next three and you could pull ahead in the world rankings.

Also - the challenges are for fun!  What's the fun in not trying?

Don't be shy about a poor score.  It is all in fun.  There is a pretty simple trick to the large number of upgrades.  My problem is the % unique - I don't think I'll be able to get into the 90's % (I know what I'm missing... don't think I'll be able to get them).

You should definitely still try! I started doing these challenges last year and consistently got low scores, but it doesn't really matter because I'm not the only one and I had fun anyway! Go for it, you can hold off posting your score until the last day if you want, so you can see everyone else's first :P

I think I have a vague idea what you two might have done, but I could be wrong. Was hoping to start my challenge file tonight but looks like it's back to the testing file for a bit first...

I'll never pull ahead in the world rankings, mostly because (shhh! it's a SECRET) I got a certain roommate who "hates all sims things" to install the base game on his computer, and he finally admitted he kinda enjoys it (but shhh!). ;D So I'm helping him out with the basics.

We'll see, though, I was getting frustrated with my practice files anyway.

That's some fabulous scoring!
This will be my first ever challenge and even though I've practised a wee bit I didn't complete a full run so no idea on what score to expect, doubt it will be anywhere near these scores posted though.

Hope to have this one finished within a week so I can start the baby boomer after.

Please please don't let other people score scare you in to not competing. The challenges are intended to give people new ways to play the Sims and hopefully bring the fun too. This is my third year of playing the tournament and trust me in 2011 I was really really bad.

"I'm not going to let the big numbers scare me. I'm not going to let the big numbers scare me. I'm not going to let the big numbers scare me."

I'm actually using them as a goal. "Must score higher than ratchie and Rica. Must score higher than ratchie and Rica." lol

If I don't make it, at least I had fun trying, and it's good practice for future tournaments. Good luck everyone!

Honestly, I am getting discouraged and I am on the verge of throwing in the towel. Reading that other people feel the exact same way, does help a little ;)
I loved to read Shirin's post about the (shhh! It's a secret!)  :)  I agree!

You know, that can just about drive me nuts. Especially since I know that even with knowing the secret I probably won't win anyway.
And for me it is not even about winning, but I don't like losing either. Not by that much anyway. Seriously, in my first practice game I am one week in the game and have about 2% of the high score. :-[ Thát is realy discouraging.

It is true what everybody says. The most important thing is to have fun with the game. And I don't have very much time to play, so I have to choose my battles. I don't give up fast either, so I am gonna try to find out how my sim can upgrade much faster. Then I will have fun again! And else... else are challenges like these maybe not for me... :-\
Problem? Don't panic! There is always a solution. You just have to find it  :D
