World Handyman Championships II

Goal
This event last year saw a whopping 85 participants. I figure players must have liked it, so I am changing very little for this year’s rendition of the popular handiness challenge. The goal is the same — upgrade as many objects as possible in the 4 weeks while trying to fiinish as many unique upgrades as you can.

General Challenge Rules
The General Challenge Rules always apply. If applicable, exceptions will be noted below.

Specific Challenge Rules
  • Create 1 Young Adult Sim (no pets).
  • You may not add to the household.
  • How you go about upgrading an object is your choice.
  • You are allowed only 18 total days of vacation. Look in your Adventure Journal to make sure of your total.
  • This challenge ends at Week 4, Day 7, 11:59 PM.

Scoring
Open up your Sim’s Handiness Skill Journal and note the Objects Upgraded stat. Jot that down and multiply that by the Percent of Unique Upgrades Completed stat for your final Total. Drop all decimals when submitting your score.

Here’s an example: You get to Week 4, Day 7, 11:59 PM and you pause your game. Your Handiness Skill Journal has Objects Upgraded: 138. The Percent of Unique Upgrades Completed stat is 96%.

138 X .96 = 132.48

Final Total = 132

This Event is Now Closed

the link to the general rules is set to the wrong page. The General Rules can be found here: http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/forum/index.php/topic,13756.0.html

I'm looking forward to these challenges, thanks to everyone who is working so hard to run them for us and to those who are putting up their hard-earned cash to reward us for them as well :)

I know generally if there is no specific rule against an action then it is okay. However, looking at the rule for vacation time, it would lead one to believe that the young adult only had the time of his usual life span to finish the challenge. My question(s), are we allowed to prolong his life? Or is this more like the baby boomer challenge where everyone is on equal footing with the same lifespan, and amount of sim time to achieve the goal?

Check the General Rules and the rules above.    Everyone is on the long lifespan and everyone has to stop playing on Week 4, Day 7 at 11:59 AM.  You shouldn't need to prolong the life because you shouldn't be anywhere near death after such a short amount of time so it's really up to you if you wish to take the time to do that.

I guess my confusion was in my interpretation that the end time was at week 4 in real time since it was a 4 week challenge, though it sounds like with your last post it is actually sim time?

In all challanges there will be a start date and a finish date, this is in real time. You can submit a score at anytime between these two dates.
Within each challange will be a time frame for the Sim to complete the challange. Usually four Sim weeks for a mini challange and twelve for a major. There will be exceptions it is best to check each challenge for information.

Yes.  All times used in the Challenges are in Sim time.   To find Sim time, you just need to mouse over the spot on the UI under the lifetime wish panel.

Quick question:

Are there *any* store items that allow upgrades?  Is there any way to change the number of available upgrades?

What if someone doesn't have all the expansion packs?  Then there are fewer upgrades available, allowing for a higher percentage with less work.

Just trying to fully understand the rules and scoring.

Thank you!

I can't do anything about someone having fewer expansions...the bottom line is obviously you want to try and get 100% with whatever expansions you do have.

If the decimal of your score is over .5, do you round up?

Say you got a score of 124.68, would you round that up to 125?

There is no rounding up in the challenges.   You always keep the decimal or drop it unless otherwise stated in the rules.

On having done some research online, there is at least one upgrade only available on store items.  According to sims3.wikia.com, there is a "more efficient" upgrade available on solar panels and windmills.  At least one of these, the solar panels, is definitely available for free in the store in either the toyota prius city-friendly pack or the toyota prius archive pack (I have both and am not sure which contains the solar panel, but both packs are free in the store, in branded content).

I am not sure how this will affect my number of upgrades available or whether it will change my precentage, and as store content seems to be partially banned, I wanted to know how this affects my game playing.  I don't want to have to uninstall the content, but will if I have to.

Thank you!
