Red Dead and The Sims Meshup
« on: November 23, 2012, 03:43:27 AM »
I absolutely love Red Dead Redemption and by all accounts, there are an awful lot of other people who do too. And now that I have found the Sims, I absolutely love it and it too has a huge following. So I have been thinking that a new game that combines both RDR and The Sims could be really fun and a big hit.

It would be an old west Sims with the flavor of Red Dead.  There would be gun fights and the lawmen and outlaws and of course the normal everyday town folk, ranchers, farmers, railroad men, miners and lets not forget the saloon girls.

The old west Sims would be able to have families and occupations just like now. Jobs might be as bankers, store clerks, blacksmith, doctor, livery stable keeper, bar tender, saloon girl, dress and hat makers. Self employment could be as a miner, rancher, farmer, hired gun, outlaw, outlaws could form gangs. You could self employ as a bounty hunter, musician, singer, writer, the possibilities are endless.

I think it could be a lot of fun. What say you?

I loved RDR and I would love a sims game based in the old west. I've had similar ideas about a sims game featuring superheros, or one that starts in the past, say the 1950's, and then moves through time with new architecture, appliances, fashion, music, hairstyles, etc. becoming available as time passes. The problem is that the folks who make the sims don't seem to have much imagination. They come up with good ideas, but don't carry them through. For example, in Supernatural a witch can turn another sim into a toad. Well, not really, they just become a "toadified" sim with a giant toad head. Imagine instead that you could actually turn another sim into a REAL toad, permanently! How much more fun would that be? (You could even use them for bait 8)). Or how about a sims game where you spent most of your time socializing and doing fun things instead of peeing, eating, sleeping, etc.

It's almost like the folks at EA are too afraid to really explore the potential of the sims. And then whenever they try something different (Like the World Adventures EP) everyone complains and says they simply want more of the same EP's that have already been done in previous sims games. So maybe the fans are to blame, I don't know, but the sims has more untapped potential than any game I've ever played. And, unfortunately, it looks as if that will be the case for the forseeable future.

In some ways I can see what you are saying, what you want.  I but I also see the other side of it.  My son plays game somewhat you are describing, role playing games where there seems to be more action, fighting, winning a town, kingdom, fighting to save a world that is in danger of something.   Those games are made by EA, and they are facinating, intense, and the one my son just bought, very imaginative and very complex games.

But, those games don't appeal to me, too intense, too much fighting, I have to look at the keyboard in sims to make sure I have the right key just for pause, page up or down.  So multipile keys usage in saving the damsel in distress type thing, although usually in those games it is just as likey the damsel who is leading the  rebellion, is not my cup of tea.

The games I like to play, really perfer to play, are also simulation, but I want to play a game that allows me to live the life I would like to have, the nice home with all the high class aspect that I could never afford.  Inside pool, huge library, really really nice kitchen, be a writer as I have dreamed of being, spy for the fun of it, go to Egypt, (YES), and such.  I like the reality of life, potty training my kids, teaching them to talk, walk, seeing them grow up and helping them to have a life I would like for my kids in real life.  In real life I have to do the mundane things of peeing, eating, sleeping, but in the sims game I can earn points to get a steel bladder so my sim doesn't have to pee, a way to lessen the need to shower, eat, sleep.
Fantasy is fine, there are a lot of books I read that would fit that bill, but for me personally, and it is just my personal outlook,  I prefer to play games that simulates real life but I can use my imagination to believe it is my family who can afford to go to dinner whenever we want, buy the new clothes I need, not have to worry about a car that is 14 year old, and where I am going to find the money so we can buy the grandkids something for Christmas.

Send your suggestions to EA, I am sure that someone there reads them, to see if anything might be of interest and enough players who would buy that type of game.

But, turn a sim into a real toad, use him or her for bait, sorry, a bit much for me.

Yes, but remember that this would only be an option for those who bought the "Supernatural" expansion pack and wanted to do such things. I'm not talking about making changes to the game that would force people to play in a way they don't enjoy. I'm just talking about giving those of us who want to "tinker" with our environment more power to do so. I've been playing the sims since the original was released in 2000, and all of my games involved "realistic" families and situations. Then along came "Supernatural" and I discovered how much fun it is to "shake things up" and play as a vampire or a spellcasting witch. I had all but burned out on the game but now it's all new again and I'm enjoying playing more than I have in years. I just wish that EA would take more chances and try some more adventurous expansions rather than just giving us the same old same old.

The problem to consider is, coming up with some good, adventuros expansion ideas that will be interesting, fun, and exciting, bring new content and interactions and such, but not break the T rating.  That or they don't fit well with the current Sims3 world design.  Perhaps when the next numbered sim game comes out, they will expand further on the open world, with either a much bigger world with multiple towns, or even just being able to travel to different towns.  Who knows.

As for Red Dead I've never played it myself, but chances are it would be to violent for a sims game.  While there are many deaths for sims, the game doesn't activly encourage you to kill them, nor are there specific interactions for a sim to kill another.  From the sound of it, a mashup with Red Dead would break that standard, and then it wouldn't be the sims anymore.

As far as i am aware, it is fairly well established that there are only a few expansions  and stuff pack left before sims3 finally comes to an end probably at the end of next year.  Whatever lies beyond that point, i look forward to.
