Curious -- move sim with gardening glitch to another town
« on: November 21, 2012, 10:15:15 PM »
I have a sim couple who ended up with that irritating garden glitch.  Send them to harvest and they do only one plant, have to keep clicking on each plant to get it harvested.

I was thinking of taking the couple and moving them to another town, then wondered, would they carry that glitch with them?  I'm figuring it would but was wondering if anyone has moved a sim that has that glitch to a new town and did it follow them?

Curious if anyone has dealt with the problems of this glitch.  Does it pass on to the next generation; I guess I am wondering if it is connected to that specific game or the specific sims who are in the game.

Jenna, is this a family created prior to the patch which caused this glitch?

I play in Sunset Valley most of the time and have no trouble, since patch 1.42, gardening at home with newly created sims, but my game prior to the patch remains glitched.  The game is, as far as I am aware still gliched for WA destinations.  However, I understand that the Supernatural EP fixes the problem if you install it, though, I have no confirmation of this.

The glitch is associated with the collection ledger.  Plants is the last page of the ledger and will be blank for a glitched sim, so, I would think, though I haven't tried it, that children would not inherit the problem because they get their own journal which will be initialised as soon as they collect their first item.  If you are worried, prevent the child from collecting anything until they can harvest fruit and veg.  Have them harvest a plant to initialize the journal and they will get a plants page.  I know this works (for new adult sims) if you want to be able to garden in a WA location (though you get only the one where the jounal is initialised and your home town) so it should work for a child too.

Yes, it is a familhy before the patch.  They still can not harvest more than one plant a a time.  Ones that I have created after the patch have no problems, they keep on harvesting until they have collected them all.  Or dropped from exhaustion, which ever comes first if I don't pay attention.
I had a family in RV that I really like, but they had the garden glitch.  I was going to have one of them do the alchemy career, but when I realized he couldn't gather more than one plant at a time I wondered that if I move him and his family to MF. they would still have the problem, since it came out after the glitch.  I have the SN pack and now the Seasons; the new games are fixed, but the old ones aren't.

It's definitely worth a try.  As long as you make a backup of your game, you don't have anything to lose by trying.  To my knowledge, there's no fix for this bug yet.  However, I also think that it's only on Sims who already have the Gardening skill.  If you have a Sim learn Gardening fresh and new, I think it will work even though it's a "bugged" file.

I'm afraid it isn't just Sims that already have the gardening skill that have this problem.  I have a brand-new character who will only harvest one item at a time.  He did have some collecting skill (from buying stuff at the Alchemy shop) before taking up gardening, so I assume that's what's causing the problem in his case.

hmmmm,

Going to do an experiment, let you know the results as soon as I have them, will be using the cake to age up the child, I don't think that will affect the outcome.

The sound of trumpting horns to get attention, please.

The results are in and they are surprising, at least to me.

I took the gardening family that had a glitch.  They had a child, who  I aged up fast to get results.
Neither mom nor dad has the list of plants in the collectors journal.
What didn't surprise me was that the child did have the page with the list of plants.

Moved the family to MF and also moved a garden from SV that had been created after the glitch.

Mom and Dad still didn't have the page, okay, expected, but was hopeful it would be there.
What did surprise me was that the child's page was missing, he now had a blank page also.

Return to RV to control family.  Aged up the child to teen so he could do the gardening skills, able weed, fertilize and plant the veggies and fruits.
He was able to in RV, and mom and dad still had the missing page, and he still had his page.
Moved them to MF, and mom and dad still was missing the page, but he also was missing the page.  So, even though in RV, where the orginal family was from, and the glitch was from the family due to the patch, the child was able to do the gardening without the glitch.

Except when I moved the family, then he also was missing the page for gardening collections.
