Sunrise Valley World (Name Subject To Change)
« on: November 20, 2012, 01:47:00 AM »
You could call this a kind of a place holder thread as I haven't been able to upload my world to the exchange because apparently the name I wanted to use is already taken, as are the various miss-spellings I've tried.

This is yet another variation of Sunset Valley as you can guess by the name. Yes I know there are others already out there but I only have a few expansion packs (Ambitions, Late Night and World Adventurer) so I wanted one that dealt with just the expansion packs I have. If a few others also find this useful they're welcome to it.

I've done a couple of things with this world that some people may not like so I'll start with those things in hopes of not wasting to much of your time.

First, I used lots and lots of trees. How many exactly? I have no idea but suffice to say I wanted a thick lush green canopy through which little sunlight penetrated to the shady roads winding through the hills. :)

The other thing I did that may not be so popular is I pushed the playable area pretty much to it's limit allowing the sims close enough to the fake background terrain to see it plain as day. That doesn't bother me in the slightest but tutorials I've read warn against that saying people don't like to be able to see the fake terrain up close. Oh well, I wanted the extra room for new lots.

If those two items haven't put you off and I still have your attention then maybe you'll like what's coming.

I guess I'll start with the wide angle view showing where all the Late Night bars and the Ambitions lots are.

The Blue Numbers....

1 = Firehouse
2 = Laundromat and Consignment Store right next to each other. Too close to give each their own number. lol
3 = Barney's Tattoo and Salon
4 = Grady's Junkyard

The Purple Numbers....

1 = McGinty's (dive bar Irish)
2 = One-Eyed Jack's Bar and grill (dive bar criminal) right next to the criminal hideout of course
3 = Cheers (Local Watering Hole)
4 = First -n- Ten (sports bar) right down the road from the stadium.
5 = Cerulean Blue Lounge (poolside lounge) Yes it has diving boards. As does almost every pool in this world. :)
6 = Club Meh (disco club) As the name implies it's nothing special. One look and you can tell I put zero effort into that place, but it has to be there so there it is.
7 = (dance club) I was so disinterested in this place I didn't even bother to name it. lol
8 = (fusion lounge) I don't even have any idea what a fusion lounge is supposed to be. Can some one explain that to me? What exactly is... a fusion lounge? lol but it's there and satisfies the requirements for gigs.
9 = Doo Peas Executive Lounge (exclusive lounge) I put this right across the street from Doo Peas Corporate Towers because I like to think of it as where the corporate big wigs would unwind after a long day of insider trading. lol
10 = The Plasma Lounge (vampire lounge) just across from the graveyard somehow seemed a fitting place.

The Red Numbers...

1 = There are three empty 64x64 lots at these locations so plenty of room to build big stuff.
2 = 4 new residential beachfront properties to build on. :)
3 = other new empty lots of varying sizes.

Now lets take a closer look at a couple of the more interesting sights.

First you might have noticed that I moved the Alto place around the corner and there's a big white thing there now. That big white thing is one of my better builds I think. It's a ritzy upscale apartment building with a 2 bedroom playable apartment.

Here's the front view...

and here's the back view...

You can take a more thorough tour of that building in this thread. Be advised though, the version available in that thread doesn't include diving boards or the hedge maze.

You're probably also wondering what that big square thing on the left was. That's a low income apartment complex on the outskirts of town. Here's a closer look...

It's actually four 64x64 lots place side by side to create one huge apartment complex with 4 different playable units. You can see more of that on page 110 of the Showboating thread

Here's a street level view...

You can just make out the farm just beyond the apartments. Here's a closer look at that farm...

Something you might not have noticed is the building around the corner from the school. It's not the diner. I moved that and put in a school dorm.

You can see more of that in this thread.

As you can see in the image below I connected the Lighthouse Island to the mainland with the suspension bridge from Bridgeport. It happened to be just the right size to span that gap. :)

And on that island there are three more empty lots. One of them beach front.

I'm thinking of making an adult male sim and get him in the law enforcement career and give him the hydrophobic and coward traits and put him in a home on the island and name him Sheriff Brody. lol

Anyway That concludes this little tour of my yet to be posted version of Sunset Valley.

Anyone have any tips one how to find a name that isn't already taken by one of the almost 15,000 worlds uploaded to the exchange? :'(

Ooo!  Very cool!  I wish you luck finding a name, but can't wait to give the world a shot myself. :D
I reject your reality, and substitute my own!

Thanks for the show of interest. I found out what my problem with uploading to the exchange was and also found a tutorial for doing a custom fly-through here so I'm going to take a crack at giving it a custom fly-through before uploading.

It took some doing but I came up with a clever way to create the illusion that the roads running through my apartment complex actually connect with the street.

It's just an illusion of course. You won't see traffic driving around behind the apartment building. Now if I could only get the crosswalks to show up on the driveways. :)

Got it! :D

That's the look I was going for. :D

Now all that's left is the custom Fly-Through.

I noticed I was having a problem with shutters showing up. Turns out shutters on windows of hidden NPC apartments also get hidden. So I changed the windows to the ones that come with shutters. They can't get hidden because they're part of the windows.

I replaced the screenshots in the first post to more accurately reflect what will be seen in game.

hmm, It sure looked like I had I nice clean pristine, glitch free, world so I reinstalled the population and exported and loaded it up in game.

Upon starting a new game in Sunrise Valley NRaas Error Trapper caught over a thousand errors. That doesn't sound good.

It seems to be running fine otherwise but I dread thinking of what might happen if some one not using Error Trapper installs this.

Freshly placed lots and freshly installed population. I can't imagine what would cause over a thousand errors.

Wow! Do you have it turned on to tell you what kinds of errors they are? I don't have error trap, but I got overwatch to test for routing. I might consider running it with my world.

I have error trap and overwatch but I haven't really explored there options at all so they're on what ever their default settings are.

EDIT: Correction. I just checked and it seems I'm missing Overwatch. I must have forgotten to update that one after the patch. Getting it now.

Okay, I don't see any options for Error Trap at all.

Just looked through Overwatch's options for the first time. Can you tell me exactly how you use it to test for routing? I don't see any mention of the word routing.

hmmm, I just started two more new games in this world, one choosing a different household to start with and the second one choosing the same household as the first new game and both times I didn't get a single error.

Could the first one have been just a fluke or maybe something that only happens the very first new game started in this world after being installed?

I think I'll uninstall and reinstall and see if I can make it happen again.

Twallan himself explains how here It's very handy :D It helps find places where you may have missed with the routing place, or where things on lots are inaccessible and sims are having little tantrums.

hehe, I just had that happen. in one house there's one of the small tables against the wall with two chairs and a went into buy mode to put a light on the wall over the table. As soon as I want back into live mode my sim, of course, wanted to check out the new item but because of the table he stomped his feet. lol I don't really care if he can't check out the light though. I will however give that link a look. Sounds useful.

Anyway I think I found the problem. While cleaning out the installation preparing for a fresh install of the world I found a save file from a previous encarnation of the world I neglected to delete and since I hadn't changed WPID numbers between versions apparently there was a lot of data left over from the previous version that threw all those errors as it all got overwritten which explains why it only happen that first time.

That and after a fresh install of the world and starting a new game with out a single error I'm a happy builder. :)

Hi PolarBair.

There are a couple of technical issues with your first post.

First, we don't like to use abbreviations because too many people don't know what they mean.  Even though you explained what NSTC means in the first post, it would be better if it's in the title of the thread.

Second, the text in a post needs to be in black and you've used colors for the names of the buildings in the town.  I suggest that you just type out the names of the colors since you've used the same numbers more than once.

Thanks very much for sharing your new version of Sunset Valley.  :)
