Ask for promotion
« on: November 19, 2012, 06:14:10 AM »
I know that Brave sims can ask their bosses for promotion while having that trait. But how does it work exactly? I haven't seen the option while clicking on their work place, their telephone nor their laptop.
So how can I let my sim ask for promotion?

If you have your sim invite their boss over, the option should come up under Friendly socials.

We have a thread about this somewhere, I'm sure. Just about any sim can ask their boss for promotion. You can only ask on certain days, and ambitious and/or workaholic traits increase the likelihood that your boss will say yes. You need to have at least 75% performance bar filled (2/3 if you have the right trait) and be at least good friends with your boss. I always shoot for best friends first by enthusing about their job (eg, enthuse about cooking) because 'enthuse' interactions, if accepted, never get boring. First, you 'discuss work' and then the option should come up. If your sim is ambitious or workaholic, and it doesn't come up under friendly interactions, it will be under the 'special' interactions. You can only ask for a promotion every 3 days.

Amazing, thanks to you both!
Does this also work with Ambitions related jobs? Ghost Buster, Fire Fighter, etc?

I don't think so, as you don't really have a boss for those jobs, do you?

Not at the top level, no. But I assume you had in lower levels.

I've never seen any boss in the relationship panel for my sims in Ambitions jobs.  It would make sense for them to have a boss but they just don't seem to.

No, but it's very easy to max these careers in just over 24hrs if you start with no skills, have fast learner, and are a vampire. A related trait would help, too.

Work at home: Workaholic trait. :P
But I see I am getting offtopic on my own topic.

I've had a few schmoozers get the option, if the relationship between the Sim and boss is high enough. Sometimes, there's also an option to thank your boss.

Traits are not necessary for asking for promotions. They might increase the odds of success though, or how early you can ask for it. Just Discuss Work and the option for Ask for Promotion and Ask for a Raise options should appear.

Getting the boss in good mood and have high friendship will increase the odds of success. If successful, you should get the option to thank your boss about the promotion/raise.

And like they said, you need to wait for a few days before asking for another promotion/raise.

After the discuss work is done...my routine is>ask for raise>ask for promotion. Often times I don't need to to do it though, since my career sims are ambitious workaholics and I grab multi-tasker ASAP.

I wish there was a threaten to blackmail boss option for my evil sims.  ;D

One thing I forgot to mention, you cant ask for promotions if you are close to the top (level 9). At least the option never appeared for me.

No, I don't think it ever appears at level 9.  Recently, I've found it often leads to glitches anyway (not being able to work the next day or progress bar going down instead of up).  I think patches may have affected it.  There's also a cool-off time after a previous request when it won't work - something like 3 days.

I'm pretty certain your Sim needs to be good/best friends with their boss to get the option - try 'discuss work' or 'enthuse' options to get it to fire.

It glitches if you ask for a promotion in the same day that you start work. If you finish work the next day, you should make sure that you ask for a promotion before midnight - otherwise your sim will have to go to work anyway to stop their performance from dropping. It won't increase though. Ultimately it's a waste of time if you ask too late.
