Parasol vs. Umbrella

I have a vampire in my game who uses the umbrella to keep cool when she goes out in the sun.  This makes me wonder if there's ever a reason to bother with the parasol instead of the umbrella, since the parasol isn't listed as "waterproof."  Thoughts?

Parasol to deflect sun rays. Unbrella to deflect rain (waterproof).

Well, that's what I thought too, but I have Sims (effectively) using the umbrella for both.
