Pets and Seasons
« on: November 18, 2012, 02:11:56 AM »
I'm curious, what new interactions, if any, do pets have with the new features in Seasons?   Can they play in the snow and leaves?  Do the dogs and cats even like going out in the snow?  How are the odds of finding the various small animals impacted by the changing seasons?  Hope someone has some answers, I won't be able to find out myself until after Christmas, if I get it for Christmas.

I haven't had a lot to do with pets yet, but I have seen dogs playing in puddles.

I don't think the weather have a impact on pets. They can't be struck by lightning for sure. My cat was playing in a puddle during a thunderstorm.
I haven't play winter yet, it is now fall in my game. I will let my sim rake some leaves. ;)

The playing in puddles isn't new.  Pets have done that from the start.

I didn't know that. I think my pets must hunt less and play more! :)

I've noticed chipmunks and cockroaches spawning near piles of raked leaves. And cats can scratch snowmen.

Whaha, they do? I can assume they will get some 'frozen nails' moodlet out of it, or something?

It's curious that cats and dogs don't even get wet in the rain, seeing as how the moodlet exists for them (i.e. after having a bath). The skittish cat I adopted frequently gets scared by thunderstorms, though, poor little guy. Cats can also freak out at the full moon. Can dogs do a howl at the moon action?

I had a dog get soaked when it was raining. He came inside and shook off lol. And dogs have a "Skittish About Full Moon" interaction regardless of the phase. Not sure what  it does.

Yes, I adopted a dog and found out that she does get wet. Maybe cats have water-repellent fur in this game? Everyone knows they can break the laws of physics if they really want to. :p

So far, I've only played with a cat, who doesn't seem to be affected by the weather at all. However, I think I may be too much of a softie to play with both Pets and Seasons. I felt terrible when a stray cat wandered through my lawn in the middle of a torrential howling-wind thunderstorm on a very chilly autumn night. For some reason I've never managed to get a stray to come inside, but I woke my Sim up and sent her outside to try anyway.

I know what you mean. :( I've always felt bad about those strays and tried to invite them in, brush them, feed them a treat -- now with Seasons and with the fact that there's always rain, snow or a thunderstorm in my game, seeing a stray in that weather makes it so much worse. And even if you manage to adopt a stray, the game will just generate a new one in its spot. I already used Twallan's Register mod to reduce the number of strays from 6 to 3 each, but am tempted to just turn them off altogether.

I'm playing with a horse at the moment and the only interaction I've found is that the horse gets startled by the lightning...
