My sims never go hungry
« on: November 18, 2012, 12:54:22 AM »
Hi all,  I've read quite a bit about gardening and no where have I seen any mention that they can eat the garden food from their backpacks.  So I thought I would mention it.  They don't need a garden.  Just buy from the grocery store.  It saves soooo much time, especially if they are busy sims.  They need about 4 peices of produce a day when they have no point rewards and when they get the 'hardly hungry' reward (25000 pts), they only need one produce per day.  I love it.

Also, if you have multiple families in your town and they all have food in their backpacks, they will never go hungry.  When the red hunger icon shows up, they eat.  No wining or arm waving nonsense.

I love the gardening.  I use store bought produce to start planting with and just hit the 'tend to' and let them go to it.  I rarely fertilize and have perfect plants usually the third generation.  My favourite is the flame fruit.  I love the colour it projects, and if they always have that in their backpack, they have a positive warm glow icon that constantly generates points for them.  They can also eat them.  Every sim/family I have has a garden, 2 fruits and 2 veggies and a flame fruit for that "always warm all over" feeling in their backpacks.

I suppose the downside to the produce method, which I do use sometimes, is that the sims don't get any moodlets from their food.  Even nice quality meals give a little buff which is good.  Ine sim can live off a group serving for a few days at least I think.

You can drag prepared food from your fridge into the personal inventory when your sim is away from home.  So, you can have the benefit of eating a nice meal buff without returning home.  Though I occassionally have my sim eat produce, I find the prepared food taken from the fridge is more beneficial, and almost as easy.   I also buy the parmican from the special merchant for standby food which is carried in the inventory and also gives a nice buff.

Group meals are very good for providing food to a few sims, and only prepare it once a week or so. I use this method in busy familes where time is strained.

I have used the methods above also on occasion.  I enjoy a family dinner and the "dinner table chatter" for families.  I also enjoy the backyard spa where they can have steamed veggies.  It's a great way to start off the cooking skill.  It's quick and they love it.  The spa is in the plumbing in F2 buy mode.  I don't think there are points for the meal though.

But for me, on the whole I find I don't care for the cooking aspect.  It's too time consuming.  Their days are too short as it is.  I love that they just eat one produce daily and they have the boost from the flame fruit at all times.
