Can I get suncreen?
« on: November 17, 2012, 08:16:27 PM »
Hi I just started playing Seasons and on my first outing to the beach I got sunburnt.  Can anyone tell me if its possible to get sunscreen or buy a hat or something to protect you from the sun?

There is a parasol that will help with the sunlight but if you're doing things that won't help you.  I suggest the LTR Immune to Heat.  This should keep your Sim from getting sunburned if I understand it correctly.

How do you get a sim to have a suntan or sunburn minus the booth or them combusting into flames? I haven't managed it yet.

I had my sim laying in the sun for a few hours (can't remember exactly how long I'm afraid) and she got a nice tan - no sunburn. Do yours really burst into flame?

Yeah, she was in her bathing suit on the telescope in summer, then she got the moodlet that said she was sweltering, and that she was too hot to do anything. Then I had her practice magic because she's a witch. I thought the first time that it was from her practising magic that she lit herself on magic by accident, but the second time she got a butt fire, she wasn't doing anything. It's actually kind of amusing to watch them get lit on fire from doing nothing but staying outside under the sun for a number of sim hours.

Anna, it seems they have to be wearing a swimsuit to get a suntan or burn. Shorts and a t-shirt are apparently just enough protection.  :)

Her swimsuit is the mermaid outfit and she was outside for a number of sim hours before she got a butt fire from being too hot, lol

I don't think my sim was in a swimsuit when she got a tan...

You get a tan in any clothes (not sure about outerwear though). From my understanding wearing swimwear helps cool your sim down but thats all.

Ah, I see. Sorry about that everyone. I've only seen it in swimsuits and just assumed. I will edit my original post.

Edit --

The Summer season guide says, "Sims wearing swimwear outdoors can get a tan when they've been in the hot sun for a while." I'm sure that's where I got that idea. I can do some testing later today.

Make sure to share your results. I'm interested to see exactly what happens.

Okay, I've done some testing on the tanning and I'm convinced that Sims need to be in swimwear to get tanned or burned.

Despite sitting outside in the sun for three full days in everyday clothing, my Sims did not get tanned or burned. One of the Sims got the Sweating Profusely moodlet, but no sunburn when in everyday clothes. The other had the Loves the Heat trait and had the Starting to Sweat moodlet, but no tan or burn. The next day, they were again sitting outside, one in the mermaid costume as swimwear and the other in everyday clothes. When the one in the mermaid costume got the Sweating Profusely moodlet, I had her change into a more traditional swimsuit and sit back down. She hopped right back up with a nasty sunburn. I then had the other Sim change into his swimsuit and sit back down, and he hopped up out of the lounger to show off his nice new tan. So it seems that everyday clothes keep a Sim from getting a tan or a burn and that the mermaid costume, even when assigned a swimwear, acts the same way.

You do not need to be in a swim suit. My Sim got tanned after spending the day at the Summer Festival. She was in her athletic gear, which is a hoodie and shorts.

Good point. I did not test athletic wear.

Update: My boyfriend just told me one of his Sims got a tan in sleepwear. More testing is in order - I will update when I've done more.
