Problem Installing Ambitions
« on: June 21, 2010, 08:47:19 PM »
I'm sorry, if I need to create a different thread, just tell me, it's just I don´t have some things clear. :P

I had the problem with the new patch that told me that: "Base Game not compatible with current EP" :'(, luckily, I backed up all my game a day before, yet I have some doubts:

Do I need to install TS3 Base game, install its patches, then install WA, and install its patches, or are they already backed up in my files?
To back up, I need to delete my current The Sims 3 folder and THEN paste my back up, or just paste it?
And finally, to install Ambitions, what patch do you need?, because I don't want my game to crash, i updated up to 1.6 and all was fine. ;)

Sorry for the number of questions :-[, and thanks in advance for your patience:

Darth Grimmy ;D

I put this into a new topic for you.

I can answer some of your questions.  When installing all of the games from the beginning, you need to make sure they are all uninstalled correctly.  You can find instructions for each game and pack on our Technical Help Board.  Once you're ready to install, just start with Sims 3, then World Adventures, then High End Loft, and finally Ambitions.  You will be prompted at the beginning of the installations that you need up update your game and it will automatically install the correct patch.  Then it will continue with the game installation.  EA is pretty good about walking you through this installation process and you don't have to know the names of the various patches that are installed.

According to the uninstall instructions, when saving your game files, you "cut" the folder from the Sims game folder and "paste" it somewhere safe.  By cutting instead of coping, you are removing the folder from the game files.  So, yes, those files need to be gone and you'll put them back when you finish with the reinstall.

I hope you find this information helpful.  :)

Sorry I couldn't reply sooner :-[, Thanks for the reply Pam :)

Soooo... my backed up files do not contain the patches? I have a link to a page where you can download until whichever patch you wish to install.

For the backup process, I copied my saves and pasted them on my desktop, now what? What do I need to do with the vainilla Sims 3 files?

And to clarify, I do NOT own TS3: Ambitions nor HELS, the problem, that I think I sorted out, was that I installed the patch that was made for Ambitions while only owning WA, maybe you need to install the newest patch WHILE installing Ambitions. ::)

And finally, do recent patches cause problems to the game? As I stated before, I updated untill 1.6 and no more.

Even if a patch came out with Ambitions, you still need it in your game.  It's intended for players who don't buy Ambitions.  There are things added to the base game every time an expansion pack is released, so by installing the coinciding patch, you still get all of the new base game additions that you would have gotten if you had installed Ambitions.  Whenever your launcher says there are updates available, you should download them.  There's really no reason to stay at a particular version and refuse to install the newer patches.  It's true that some may introduce new bugs, but then another patch will be released to fix them.  The Sims 3 is a game that is in constant motion.  The developers are always working on it and changing it.  If you aren't fully updated, you could have trouble in other areas.  So, basically, go ahead and download whatever patches the game launcher recommends.  As you're installing the game, it will tell you that you need to install an update to continue with the installation.  Then when you're finished installing, it will tell you that you need whatever update to bring your game current.  It won't matter if you have Ambitions or HELS installed or not.

After you're reinstalled your game, you just put your save files back in the same spot you cut them from.  That will put your families and towns back into the game so you can continue playing them.
