The attraction system
« on: November 14, 2012, 08:02:37 PM »
My sim just got this message when she got the mail:

I thought that was so sweet :D Love letters!

I know people have mentioned how they feel about the attraction system in other threads, but it seemed like it needed a topic of it's own.

The sim I'm playing is one I already had going before Seasons so he already has a lot of close friends and instead of getting the love letters he gets gifts.
As many as 5 or 6 a day that go in his family inventory that he can sell for a few thousand sometimes. Unfortunately it's also bugged and sometimes the gift is a package that's called Omni Seed and is in his inventory and he can't click on it or anything. Only way to get rid of it is using a mod like Master Controller to delete it.
And he gets phone calls every few minutes wanting to know if he wants to go on a date. Sometimes he doesn't much more than hang up the phone and it's ringing again. It gets very annoying after awhile.
It's a nice idea but needs some work to get the kinks out.
A clear conscience is usually a sign of a bad memory.

I'm playing a single male Sim and decided to let him be a player. With the attraction system, he gets love letters every day which is quite sweet. The gifts are nice too. I wonder if it's possible to make a living as a player? Wooing women/men, taking their gifts and selling them. Hmmm... I might have to test this ;D

The attraction system just feels creepy and stalkerish. My writer already has people camping out in her yard, ringing her doorbell at 3 in the morning, and now has to put up with psychos calling to ask for a date. She was trying to get a book done and had like five or six calls in one day with people she didn't even know asking to date. I don't have Seasons yet but we got attraction with the patch and it is very irritating so far. I wish you could have your phone set as an unlisted number and only give out your number to people you want to know it.

I've started with Seasons playing in Sunset Valley and who keeps sending me love letters?  Christopher Steel himself.  That's right... I don't even have to go searching for Mr. Dynasty Steel, he comes right to me.

hahahahahaha!

He's pretty much the only single male with time for dating in Sunset Valley. Stiles and Conner are both loners so I can't picture them doing a lot of date searching. Jared is ick and usually ends up with Claire. Leighton has a kid and an awful job, so rarely any free time. Who else is there?

Played only for a short time but got 2 Sims reacting that way to my Sim and also got a moodlet without time limit being around "hot Sim" or something like that. Find it like it is very random and would love to see what mechanism is behind it. Will try to see in s3pe when I find some time :)

Well I play with NRaas story progression so Christopher Steel was actually married with kids were on the way by the time he started sending me stuff, I had Thorton Wolff ask me out and Geoffery about a thousand times... they even send me gifts.  Jared was interested for a bit. Cyclon3 is busy sending me stuff as well.  The attraction system I don't think cares whether they are married or not.

So naturally I chose the npc guy left over from a bachelorette party, I think more because he was ice skating with me in his "uniform"  hahahaha!

That's one thing that definitely needs fixing. They need to take traits into consideration for what actions a sim will and will not do. It's almost as bad as my non-childish sims getting wishes to play hopscotch or wasting time jumping around in the sprinklers.

I think if the Sims have certain traits like insane, inappropriate, flirty or hopeless romantic they should be more likely to call you for a date (despite being married) but sims with traits like family oriented, good, proper, nurturing etc and are married should not even attempt to romantically call someone.

I am definitely agreeing with both of you. I am a bit perturbed that a Family-Oriented sim such as Geoffrey would so actively pursue another when he is married and has a good relationship with Nancy. It just does not make sense to me.

They should definitely take traits into account when calculating whether a sim engages in these flirtatious interactions, but they should also include the sim's relationship bar with his/her significant other and if they have the Faithful or Eternally Faithful moodlet.

When I made a single sim in AP. a town I didn't play much before i thought the attraction system would be helpful in learning which sims could be potential mates even before I get to know them and learn their traits. But I agree it seems flawed  that happily married sims with kids will come after you with gifts and love letters. I do think its an interesting feature though, writing love notes is adorable I just wish there was some sort of criteria over who takes an interest in you and who signs up for online dating. It would be funny to see Thornton Wolff or Hank Goddard in the personals but not all these seemingly sweet, loving husbands  :P

The new online dating system is also full of married men.   Plus some of them actually lie about their traits, favorites and body type.  It's funny but you can always see who the vamps are because they like O Positive as a favorite food.

I've been silencing my mobile phone since the attraction system started!  At least that stops all the annoying incoming calls which seem to be timed to come when a book, repair, etc. is at 97% or the sim is desperate to eat, sleep, etc.  How do they do that?  It's like the visa points in WA you seem to get to 97% of the level just too late to fill another adventure before returning home!
